இந்த இராமாயண காவியத்தில் குறிப்பிடக்கூடிய இராமர் பாலம் பற்றி நம்மில் பெரும்பாலானோர் அறிந்திருப்போம். ஆனால் இந்த பாலமானது உண்மையில் இராமபிரானால் கட்டப்பட்டதா அல்லது கடல் அலைகளால் உருவான வெறும் மணல் திட்டா என்ற கேள்விக்கு விடை கானும் பதிவாக இது திகழவிருக்கிறது.
இராமாயணம் நிகழ்ந்ததா ? ஸ்ரீ இராமர் இவ்வுலகில் உண்மையாகவே வாழ்ந்தாரா?

இராம சேதுவின் மீது இன்றைய விஞ்ஞானிகள் நிகழ்த்திய ஆய்வு முடிவுகளை பற்றியும்,
சேது சமுத்திர திட்டம் பற்றியும், இராமர்பாலம் குறித்து அறியப்படாத பல அறியதகவல்களையும் இப்பதிவின் வாயிலாக நாம் அறிந்துகொள்ளவிருக்கிறோம்.
ராமாயணம்... இந்த காவியம் நமது பாரத தேசம் மட்டுமல்ல, உலகின் பல நாடுகளிலும் குறிப்பாக தென்கிழக்கு ஆசிய நாடுகளிலும் பெரும் புகழைப் பெற்றுள்ளது. இந்தக் காவியம் காலத்தால் மிகவும் பழமையானது.
அதன் சிறப்பிற்கு நிகரான காவியம் உலகில் வேறு எங்கும் இல்லை என்பது கற்றறிந்தோர் கருத்து.
இராமபிரான் வானரசேனர்களைக் கொண்டு அமைத்த சேதுபந்தனம் இக்காவியத்தில் கூறப்பட்டிருக்கலாம்.
நாம் அனைவரும் அறிந்தது.
கம்பர் போன்ற பல மொழியியலாளர்களால் இயற்றப்பட்ட பல்வேறு மொழிகளில் ராமாயணங்கள், ராமர் பாலத்தின் சிறப்பு மற்றும் முக்கியத்துவத்தை கூறுகின்றன. மூல ராமாயணமான வால்மீகி ராமாயணத்தில், இலங்கைக்கு ராமர் கட்டிய பாலம் பற்றி விரிவாக விவரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
இராமேஸ்வரம் தீவின் பாம்பன் பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ள தனுஷ்கோடிக்கும் இலங்கையின் மன்னார் வளைகுடாவில் அமைந்துள்ள தலைமன்னாருக்கும் இடையில் சுமார் 35 கி.மீ. நீளம் 3 கி.மீ. சுண்ணாம்பு பாறைகளால் ஆன அகலமான, சங்கிலி போன்ற அமைப்பு இராமர் பாலம் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. 30 கிமீ நீளமுள்ள இந்த பாலம் மன்னார் வளைகுடாவையும் பாக் ஜலசந்தியையும் பிரிக்கிறது. இந்தப் பாலம் அமைந்திருக்ககூடிய கடலின் ஆழம் குறைந்தது 3 அடி முதல்
அதிகபட்சம் 30 அடி ஆக உள்ளது.
சில பகுதிகளில் பாலம் கடல் மட்டத்தை விட உயரமானவையாக காணப்படுகின்றன. இவை இராமர் பாலம் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகின்றன.
வால்மீகி ராமாயணத்தில், சேது பந்தனம் பகுதியில் உள்ள யுத்த காண்ட பகுதி 22 வது அத்தியாயத்தில், வானரப் படைகள் எவ்வாறு ஒன்று கூடி, நமது பாரத தேசத்திற்கும், இலங்காபுரிக்கும் இடையே பாலம் அமைத்தது என்பதை விரிவாக விவரிக்கிறது. இதைப் பற்றி விரிவாக இந்த பதிவின் மூலம் அறிந்து கொள்ளலாம். மேலும் இராமர் பாலத்தை அழிக்க வந்த சேதுசமுத்திர திட்டம் பற்றியும் விரிவாக பார்க்கலாம்.

In the case of the land chain between Alaska and Siberia - Between Pacific and Bearing sea. In the case of Rama Sethu, between the Indian ocean and Bay of Bengal. All these features including Rama Sethu formed when the seas on both sides have opposing currents that carry sediments. At the meeting locations both currents oppose each other reducing the speed of currents and the sediments drops and form these features.
