So I'm looking to buy 64gb of ram for my 5900x on a Gigabye Aorus x570 Master rev 1.2. The best options I could find were the Patriot 3200@16-18-18-36 for 190$ that you barely just glossed over and the G.Skill 4000@18-22-22-42 for 270$ that I see someone was able to get stable @3800 with similar cpu/mobo on pcpartpicker. what do you think would be my best bet? Or would trying to get a 4x16gb set of non-Bdie micron or hynix be a better option?

That completely depends if/how often the game fills up the cache. There will be a big difference in 1% lows in games like Warzone where the game does not fit in the entire cache. Even if the XMP config gets a 200 fps average, it probably won't be a great experience if you're getting 55 fps 1% lows.

I once bought these 4000c16 Patriot and the heatsink was really cheap/nearly not in contact with the IC, I finally returned them. I ended up buying a used (and cheaper) 3800c14 kit from G.Skill and I was able to post 4400c14 1.6v while the Patriot wasn't able to. I believe Patriot is cheaping on the heatsink and the XMP being closer to what the chip are capable of compared to other.

I am scarred from my experience with corsair vengeance 3000mhz c15 I have. It just will not run on my 6700k with all 4 slots populated without increasing the timings. Buildzoids advice about c-die hating anything above 1.35v really helped me though. I honestly only buy ram now that is validated for the board and run nothing past xmp. Got now 64gb 3600mhz c18 crucial ballistix on my z590 unify ace with 10900k.

Bought a 2x16 3600 19-19-19 kit a year ago for $173 CAD (or $145 USD) that turned out to be dual rank CJR. At the time it was the absolute cheapest 2x16 3600 kit, and pretty much all other 2x16 3600 kits were $200+ CAD ($168+ USD) and were 18-22-22. Seemed like a deal and I bought it with the plan to upgrade 1st gen Ryzen to Zen3 if we ever got BIOS support on X370 (which we do now), but still haven't snagged a Zen3 chip...and I can't do over 3000 14-16-16-34 with this Zen1 chip. The fact that nowadays you can get a 2x16 3600 16-18-18 for the same or less money hurts a little bit. Futureproofing really is kind of a bad word.

Don't trust gskill QVL. I have a 3600C16-16-16-36 32G kit, listed as QVL by gskill for Dark Hero, but according to Asus - is not on QVL (it is unstable at times too, random hard crash with MEM LED at DOCP 3600). I've manually OCd it though including all sub timings, and funny enough is substantially more stable at 3733 (my 5950's IMC can't handle anything more).

Bruh, I got the GSkill 4000 16-16-16-36 1.4v 2x16GB kit and on my 12700k I can only do we 3900C15 or 3800C14 due to poor IMC. The subtimings are magnificent though, I tuned each and every one of them to their limit. I can get 3900C14 to pass HCI on Auto subtimings but the moment I start tightening the subtimings just a bit I get an error eventually... And with 3900C15 or 3800C14 I can get some beautiful insanely tight subtimings. 3866C14 was a no go either... Kinda disappointed to be honest, especially since I bought a waterblock to cool the RAM but it's not really needed for this dram voltage.

1:01:19 no one's properly setting up DDR5. You're earlier thing is still better. Gaming, not overclocking bots, Samsung B die DDR4, better and much cheaper than "properly" setting up DDR5. Frame chasers has the best advice. Wait for 8000 kits DDR5 with 32 CL minimum to START considering DDR5. Cost will still be expensive at that speed so those Samsung B die Patriot Viper kits will still be great. Gaming is all that matters. Benchmarks aren't games. Use your specific game AS your benchmark. What's the priority people, come on!!!

Should I buy 32x2 GB 3200Mhz (16-18-18-38) or 32x2 GB 3200Mhz (22-22-22-52)? This rig is mainly for modelling and some gaming, the prices are 180$ vs 160$ respectively. I'd probably just take the 16-18, cause I'm planning on buying a used 3090(maybe 3070) and 12100f (for the single-threaded performance for modelling, not rendering). Obviously I'm not buying the GPU right now.

You're buying DDR4 today? I'm finally building a new system early next year, and I couldn't imagine using DDR4 when the system is expected to last for 8+ years (My current PC will be 9+ years old when I upgrade). That's like building a new gaming PC with PCIe 3.0.
@NavinF
@NavinF 2 жыл бұрын
@@bricaaron3978 LOL, I upgrade every couple of years. I think my 5800x3d will last 3 years and my 3090 will last 2 more months until I get a 4090 and send the old GPU to my brother. RAM is my least concern as far as upgrade schedule.
@bricaaron3978
@bricaaron3978 2 жыл бұрын
@@NavinF Well, that's a different story. That's one reason why I couldn't have built a new system even if I wanted to. People say that "waiting" doesn't make any sense, but when you are between new technologies it's possible to build a system that "gets old fast".
@NavinF
@NavinF 2 жыл бұрын
@@bricaaron3978 Totally depends on your budget and whether your PC is a business expense. I really need 64G for my workload and I can’t justify spending $600 on DDR5 today just so I can avoid buying a new motherboard when I need to upgrade to DDR5 in a couple of years.
@bricaaron3978
@bricaaron3978 2 жыл бұрын
@@NavinF The price of DDR5 is insane. The price of RAM for a gaming PC build is literally over _five times_ higher than it always has been since I built my first gaming PC in 2008 --- and that's _after_ the price has dropped significantly in the last several months. Whether it was 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB, the cost was always under $100 ... usually $50 - $80 on sale. And this went all the way back: 1MB of RAM in 1990 was around $50 - $100. Now, for the first time the cost on sale for a standard gaming PC amount (32GB) is _many multiples_ higher. It's insane.

Alright next video idea, why should or shouldn't someone consider going for a k sku on 12th (and maybe 13th) gen? 12700/F is only a few percent down on a 12700K/F in 1080p gaming benchmarks. Yes I did hear you talk about VCCSA voltage control being absent, is there anything else though? Seems like DDR4 it's worse than DDR5 for getting a non-K sku (relatively worse, obviously DDR5 is better than DDR4).
