Couldn't care less about classic expansions. Vanilla is home, vanilla is life. Actually unlimited content, even 18 years later. Hardcore is a great way to fill the gaps and get back to the roots of the game. Legit don't care what they do with vanilla next, I'll be there. Until then you can find me in Azeroth leveling hardcore characters and doing achievements. Dying for some more late night Kargoz streams bro! Such a vibe.

I started playing vanilla way back in 2006 when I was 12. I barely spoke English, being from a European country that never had its own dedicated servers, and didn't understand the game mechanics in the slightest. Yet the world pulled me in and kept me enthralled. That is the magic of WoW imo. I remember that a girl from Sweden showed me the ropes and led me to the Wetlands and other questing zones since I was stuck. She was the same age then that I am now, 28. She must be 44 now. If you were from a smaller country you had to swim or sink, and since Wow was much more social back then, most people actually took the time to help you out. It's insane how plastic our brains are when we are young, in one year of WoW I was pretty much fluent in English

I’ve been having a great time on the Mankrik cluster alliance side. I was shocked at how many people were playing. Zones feel pretty full with people leveling (in wetlands now). 0 problems making groups. I’ve done both DM and BFD. People are even running SFK alliance side to help out pallies. Everyone’s doing the elite quests in zone too. Auction house is also buzzing. This is on and off peak times too. I had a day off in the middle of the week and I was still able to make the group for DM (as a hunter) np. Leveling in vanilla is so much fun. It is the meat of the content and the game feels like an actual world. The world shrinks a lot with each expansion as the player base is consolidated to a new continent .

I played vanilla back in 2005 onwards, I played multiple private servers, I played official classic relaunch, i played SoM - I love this game. I was excited to replay TBC and Wrath, they are great games but in the experience of replaying them one thing has become more and more clear to me personally. The thing that stands out the most about vanilla wow, to me, is the emergent social gameplay and the need to group up with other people in the open world organically. Every version of wow after vanilla only stepped further away from this design philosophy, I would love to see a version of classic that attempts to go down the alternate path of honing in on the need to group up and meet other players in the open world - many ideas come to mind, but its more about the design philosophy than the specifics. Quests like killing Balgaras in the wetlands come to memory. Thanks for this style of video Kargoz, reminds me of your old fireside chats from way back.

I don't think people dislike esports because of money, I think it's because it popularizes tryharding to the point where it becomes a norm, and classic doesn't really require that approach on the other hand esports really is fun, especially a community organized one, so you can't please everyone

Hardcore focuses on leveling and unless there are restrictions like that, it seems players get sweaty to lvl fast and clear content which to me wasn’t the reason I love vanilla. For me I like to chill and lvl and be out in the world. Oddly enough hardcore mode allows me to do that and oddly enough feels less sweaty.

On the topic of esports, they are not inherently bad. It's the effect that it has on communities that sucks. People begin to play the game with an ultra competitive mindset because they see it being marketed as a competitive game. It's a big part of why retail is the way it is.

People always say wrath the best expansion. The reality was that it was the first expansion where wow's growth flattened. In fact, from TBC, wrath's peak was just a couple points higher. It was the first time in wow where the same amount of people joining was the same amount of people quitting. It's because everything was stream-lined in wrath, and endgame raiding became the focal point. Vanilla is simply one of a kind. It's not the best game. It's the only game.

Wotlk was my favourite expansion so I've been loving it but I understand that era itch that a lot of people have. I was just thinking.... you know how indeed a mod can blow up like dota or cs. What would really seem cool to me if there is a way to somehow turn hardcore in to a sort of rogue-like. So what I mean is that it's obviously still permadeath but you get to keep certain progression. For example, you get to choose one or two items that you have earned that will appear in the inventory of your next character, or perhaps 1 profession. I think that would greatly increase the appeal to a wider audience. Also that would balance out the risk vs reward dynamic because when you get to keep a certain item it really raises the stakes. Plus its nice to at least have some sort of progression without compromising the appeal of hardcore mode. Don't know if it's even remotely possible to mod such a feature but it would be a fun gamemode I think, it really turns the game in a sort of gauntlet to collect the items you most desire that stays fun and relevant over a long period of time. With the permadeath and only one "save slot" per run you can literally spend years collecting stuff you really want. It would really add tension and excitement to the game with a "heirloom" system. Just imagine you get crazy lucky and you get a world drop like Staff of Jordan and that would bind to your account. That would also solve the issue that you cant trade or use the auction house because the next run you can roll a caster and still make use of it. This adds another layer of gameplay depth because each run you have to consider which class makes the best use of the items you managed to collect thus far.

@@SacredCASHcow Yeah you could mod in items that give permanent xp boost to an account, on like iconic bosses like Princess in Maraudon or the Emperor in BRD or something. Or indeed temporary boosts that only last for a single run. But anyway, lots of possibilities to really create an unique game on top of the basis of Vanilla. Some good modders can probably come up with some really interesting stuff and challenging ways to get them, hidden in the back of caves with fast respawn rates for example, making it really risky and challenging but very rewarding.

Elwynn in the rain... My heart! My first love will always be vanilla. I like wrath, played dragonflight for a week and quit... But I will always come back to vanilla. Not sure what the future holds but I don't see classic cata or classic+ happening personally. I would love a fresh vanilla though.

Honestly, playing WotLK made me realize that I don't really want it. I just want the more cohesive talent trees and raids like ICC in Vanilla lol. As for classic servers: I think they might skip a few. Like, I can't imagine WoD classic or Cata classic, but I can certainly see them bringing Legion classic with how big of a hit it was. What I want to see for vanilla are SoM affixes that borrow ideas from M+. Make each season vary a bit y'know? I'd like to at least try sthg like "Fortified" SoM where all mobs gain 15% HP and 10% damage increase, just to try it out. As for your content - keep it up, I love it. I love chilling while listening to OG vanilla ost/sounds as you level. I think I watched every stream in last month. The HC tour is amazing and is the content I'm most excited for in coming months outside of LoL Worlds.

Yeah as a classic/tbc Andy who quit before and never played wotlk it's not as good as people claiming it to be. Not bad in any sense but gear catchup is super easy and after that its just raid logging besides the heroic daily if you want that or TLPD hunting.

Classic Era will always be #1 in my heart, this is coming from a Retail Andy. I didn’t play TBC or Wrath Classic, but Era and Vanilla has and had my heart. I hope Blizzard does something to consolidate the servers or release a new fresh server. They are probably deciding between that or a new SoM season. One thing is clear - they kept Era servers up and not TBC for a reason.

I think a lot of people are ready for a fresh unchanged vanilla server. There’s a reason people have played them for so long. They’re perfectly imperfect. I really liked this down to earth video Kargoz, thanks for helping keep the game we love so much alive my man. After all this is more than a game to us. Also as a side note I know that me as well as thousands will always play a fresh vanilla server as it was back then with no changes. There’s something so special about vanilla but nobody can put their finger on it because there’s just too many things that make it that way.

I loved vanilla. Raided all the way through naxx. I looked forward to tbc and had a lot of fun in it but was raid logging by the end and only made it half way through Sunwell. Got to 80 in wrath and there wasn’t much to do but level alts and that’s not really my thing. I’ve kept my sub to try out hardcore and am slowly leveling a priest. Loving these low level competitions you guys are putting on. Wrath and classic are so different. I have no idea why it was so hyped. Two different games.

I didn't even bother with wrath. I burned out on TBC quick and found myself playing vanilla again daily. The world is much more compelling without all the space/sci-fi crap in the game. I love Vanilla WoW. TBC is good and Wrath is OK but Classic Vanilla is pure and timeless. Having quit near the end of TBC, I decided not to even attempt Wrath and I've been content with that decision because I know I wouldn't be enjoying myself as much. I'd love to jump back into Classic though. Just level casually, enjoy the ambience of the world and meet new friends while fondling memories of the ones I've left behind.

Came back after a 13 year hiatus. Managed to get my first iteration HC rogue up to 16 before death. Not too bad after thirteen years of dust- shows how well they made vanilla. The rogue mechanics came back like riding a bike. Made a hunter which I never played and died at lvl 6. Anyway hc is great. Reminds me of how I played in 2006 on the first trial account system. I was super super super hyped for wrath and then it came out. It feels more like retail and so does TBC but for some reason I had so much more fun in that expansion. Iv had the most fun in classic vanilla era tho and always had. I’m definitely a vanilla Andy. I’m having fun on retail but it’s not classic it’s not vanilla. Hogwarts legacy is out so I’ll be playing that for a bit but I will always play classic era because it’s so good and HC makes it a lot of fun as well. Classic was my first actual wow experience aside from not understanding the game for a few hours when it first came out. The leveling was awful. I can see the appeal because there's lots to do to make fun stories for your character. But it sucked because the game incentivized you to play alone for maximum xp. Seeing another horde player in the wild, my first thought was always "this guy is gonna steal my tags, xp, quest item, etc how can I run him into an alliance to get him killed?" Did anyone else have this experience? It was fun but it was a shame feeling pushed toward solo play in a massive multiplayer world. Dungeon grinding was the most fun part

You are correct, people don't miss Vanilla because of HC, BUT HC is a fantastic game mode to experience vanilla. I disagree with your point about the talents and specs. I always wanted to be able to tank dungeons as a shaman and I also want them to change item stats on gear you get while levelling. How they updated the gear in TBC from low lvl quest (like changing strength on cloth gear to int) would be OK to do in Classic. As much as I was annoyed when was added to the guild chat because it got filled with Asmongold Andies who just kept saying things to get a reaction. I know that these people will come and go and the people who actually appreciate the spirit of HC will stay and the rest will get bored and move on. HUGE SHOUT OUT TO THE HC MODS AND DEVELOPERS that addon is fantastic and the integration of all the guild chats has really breathed life into HC. The way that you all responded to griefing is just genius. is out there doing the Lord's work, the app auto-verifying grief kills with the emote, and the passion of the mods and dev team is really inspirational. I am really sorry that people are trying to tarnish your name and discredit you. Last but not least congrats to you and your family, I wish you all health and happiness!!!

It's been 18 years this month since I stepped into Azeroth. Almost half my life. Vanilla has a special place in my heart. I take breaks, sometimes for years, but I always come back. It's not a game, it's an entire world and a virtual community. Can't be replicated for me personally.

Vanilla has no shelf life. I think what they started playing with in having SoM is the doorway into classic+ Having changes come on a seasonal basis allows opportunity to hone in on what the player base actually wants to accomplish for a classic+ world

The foundation that started Classic is what I am rooting for. The want to be able to jump into a game you played and liked with people who feel the same. I was sad when they closed down TBC and I'll be sad if they close down WotLK. I am looking forward to a theoretical Cataclysm. I wish they just kept a running set of yearly reset servers for the expansions, so that every year you could hop in and experience the expansion's progression again, with the option to transfer your characters to the next expansion once it completed. In 5 years, people will be asking to play TBC again, just like they did before. Private servers are evidence that they can stay populated.

Hardcore RP guilds in classic just seem fun, I don't even RP but Hardcore to me feels more like a RP experience than a Esport. I also still really enjoy that there are these bit sizes Esport runs of the 20 duels and dungeon run rushes, great to see multiple communities functioning in the same ruleset.
