Rambo: First Blood is a 1982 American action film directed by Ted Kotcheff, and co-written by Sylvester Stallone, who also stars as Vietnam War veteran John Rambo. The first installment in the Rambo franchise, it co-stars Richard Crenna and Brian Dennehy. It's about a Vietnam veteran and drifter John J. Rambo who wanders into a small Washington town in search of an old friend, but is met with intolerance and brutality by the local sheriff. When the police restrain and shave Rambo, he flashes back to his time as a prisoner of war and unleashes his fury on the officers. He narrowly escapes the manhunt, but it will take his former commander to save the hunters from the hunted.

I think each Rambo movie has something to offer the franchise, Rambo has had one hell of a story arc (franchise as a whole). That being said, one of the most heart felt moments in a Rambo movie, was when Rambo goes to visit the relative of one of his war buddies only to find out he is dead, so Rambo gives the relative a photo of him and the war buddy. I was never in the military but I can see that if you served with other soldiers, it is nice to reconnect with someone you knew from your past once you return to civilian life.

Stunts were incredible in that movie. One of my favorites is when the pursuing cop car flies off the road and lands on a fence, you hear that sharp honking of the horn. Subtle sound effect where you don't see what happens, but still know. One of those small things that bring authenticity. Cracks me up every single time. I still wonder if it was accidental or intended, or done in post.

When Arnold made Conan the Barbarian, he actually fell down the steps in the cave at the beginning - it wasn't scripted. The side of his face is actually laid open in that scene. Him being new to the US & barely speaking english says "I'm bleeding..." to which Dino DeLaurentis responded "Yeah - just go with it." Arnold says again "but... but.... I'm BLEEDING." I am sure they make you feel that way with the cop that dies being an asshole. However, there are no goodguys in this film. This is not that type of film. That cop who died was wrong for being an asshole and trying to kill rambo before falling and dying. He is the only one who can be labeled "A badguy". But rambo was not right for his behavior. This is a movie about a vet from the brainwashed soldier 60's era that went nuts in a civilian surrounding. None of the other officers chasing him were "badguys", even the one in charge. And Rambo was definitely not a goodguy in this situation. Regardless of how good it feels to see a guy beat up on cops who were being dicks.

The Sheriff is definitely the bad guy. He shows his prejudice right from the start. "We don't want guys like you in this town" if he said that to a gentleman of another race, would he be a "good guy"? The main deputy is a bad guy, he took pleasure in torturing and shooting at an unarmed Rambo.

I saw this as 4 and half yr old when it was considered “new”(movies took a ridiculously long time to go from theatrical to video,I think part 2 was in theaters by that point.) As a child of that age I knew nothing about social politics or Vietnam or the fall out from war,I literally thought Teasle felt Rambo was too ugly to be in that town and got arrested for it. That shaped my view of cops til I was out of childhood. It’s amazing and sometimes preposterous the things we believe as kids. I just remembered something else,I thought the title was referencing the part where Rambo gets his arms cut up falling through the trees,I thought he was meant to be so tough that it was the first time anything made him bleed. Who was letting me watch this kind of stuff anyway?🤣 this was the days where kids could do whatever they wanted as long as it didn’t make your parents look bad. Or maybe that was just me,I come from pure ivory garbage which is probably clear

Stallone did a bunch of the dangerous stuff you'd think the stuntman would have. You know when Rambo's on the cliff? When Rambo jumps off, it's a stuntman. When he's falling through the air, that's a stuntman. When he hits the fucking tree? That's Stallone! And he broke his ribs for his trouble.
