As Thai, I am so proud of both. Coban is a real fighter with his heart. Dekkers can be respectfully regarded as an authentic Nuk Muay Thai with good technique and full spirit of Muay Thai. Nationality is nothing to do with this thing; anyone can be such good Nuk Muay Thai if he or she possesses such qualification. Thank for video and RIP Dekkers.

Abdul Hameed Most of that shit is a habit formed for dealing with gambling. Gambler forces want their benefit promised for the fight and wanted the first 2-3 rounds go easy so they can place bets and discuss, and that's how that easy habit shaped. No it is not that they have nice culture (if not gambling culture) and want each other to have a nice day, it's the fact that they don't want to lose their only job. Outside the camps, they can't even find garbage picker job for a living.

+Johnny Jay His thai name was Buffalo head for that reason. The only boxer at 135lbs to have a heavy weight punch in his hands. The fight schedule flyer had Coban weighing at 135lbs and dekker at 142.lbs.ls. It was not a championship fight and the Thais were over confident. The next rematch was 142b title fight.

Brilliant tribute, i was training in Ko Samui at the time and went to BANGKOK to it see, with a ringside seat in the dekker corner. You could hear a pin drop when Coban was Ko'd. It was the most awe inspiring mauy thai event i have ever seen. To be honest the fight that changed everything for Thailand was when Dekker fought Superlex, on the buses in Bangkok the next even the office girls were talking about this blonde haired blue eyed farang. that was the real game changer. One in a kind ...gone too soon...never forgotten.

Wow what an amazing video this is. Have seen the fight multiple times but never seen this one before. When I was 21 (back in 2001), had a couple of months off from college and decided to make a solo trip to Thailand. Planned it so I could go to Lumpinee championships on the first night of arrival and although I had a normal ticket, just because of the fact I was wearing my NL football jersey to represent my country to the fullest, the Thai people went crazy, kept on screaming Ramon's name to me and put an extra chair out of nowhere so I could sit one row after court side. Will never forget the experience in my life. All thanks to the true legend Ramon Dekkers who introduced me to the beautiful sport called Muay Thai 🙏

Some say Muay Thai has no hands. This video proves Muay Thai can generate similar punching power as boxing.

Mostly Dutch style thai fighters have great hands, as good as a boxer. Whoever, traditional Muay thai fighters don't but they are at least decent and not taekwondo bad.

Well, Americans do have good hands too, depends on the gym and your style, but Thais tend to focus more on kicking and the clinch. I personally love punching.

Plus, the Thais boxing skills have gotten better over the years. You are definitely seeing a lot more hands in Thailand now than in the 80s.

greywarrior60 In the clinch yea. But punches in Muay Thai are used for many things. All Thais will at least use them to score a KO when the opportunity arises. Most often up there aggressiveness with a power 1-2, or a kick combination. Muay Mats, like Pornsanae Sitmonchai, specialize in punching and leg kicks. Muay Femurs, being very well rounded, use them frequently. Some Muay Khaos utilize them to get into the clinch. Muay Taes I suppose use them sort of rarely or maybe to set up a kick or keep distance. I think this generalization of Muay Thai having bad hands comes from their punching style. Nak Muay rarely use big combinations like 4 punches followed by a kick. Unlike other Martial Arts, Muay Thai focuses on power more than anything. Damage done to your opponent is what wins in Muay Thai fights, not number of hits landed per se. This is why they tend to very short punching combos, like a power 1-2, or just a big hook. Now comparing this to Boxers, who punch in longer combos, of course you'd assume Thai hands are bad. By the same standards Looking at TKD, you'd assume that Muay Thai has bad kicks since they don't have much kicking combinations. Intelligent and honest People however, always admit that Muay Thai is a superior kicking art, even though the stylistic differences in kicking combinations between MT and TKD are the same as stylistic differences for punching between MT and Boxing. Combinations are not superior to singular power shots. Nor are singular power shots superior to combinations, both have uses. This can be seen with many MT vs K-1 or Kickboxing fights. Although the kick boxers had better combinations, the MT fighters could keep them back with some singular power shots. I think we are just too used to long punching combos.
