Amen! It' just an absolute travesty that most mma fans have no clue who Ricardo Arona even was apart for being the dude power-bombed by Jackson. He's without question, just like Quinton, one of the top 10 greatest LHW's of all time, and back then in his prime he was undoubtedly one of the top 5 best LHW's on the planet at the time! Right up there with the likes of Quinton Jackson, Wandi, Shogun, and Chuck Liddell. His wrestling/grappling and BJJ was next level, along with some of the most devastating leg kicks of all time, great knees/punches in the clinch, and great ground and pound. So when you combine his next level submission game and his unmatched wrestling/grappling skills, with his immense strength and athleticism - made for one dominant fighter. And he woulda been even more successful if he had been fighting in a cage all that time rather than a ring.

@@8301TheJMan Arona is not as well known because he only fought in Japan. After Pride ended, he injured both of his knees badly, so his career was cut short and he never went to the UFC like the other top guys in Pride.

I knew had had a major knee injury, but i didn't know that both knees were injured, for a grappling/wrestling specialist fighter like Arona was, that definitely would have greatly impacted him as a fighter. He came back to fight Marven Eastman in some other promotion, he was really slow looking and just didn't have the sort of cardio that he was once had. He still ended up taking Marvin down and dominating him on the ground, (though all of his detractors, largely Chute-Box fanboys and the like, who constantly falsely portrayed his fighting as "laying and preying", in this case it was the closest i've seen him come to that due to out of shape and sluggish he was). And having major knee injuries and being pretty out of shape definitely explains why he decided t simply hang up his gloves. It sucks too, cuz he was the only guy i've ever seen absolutely dominate Wanderlei back when the Ax Murderer was in his prime at Pride. Arona won the first meeting and then was robbed of the second one, Hell he was actually winning the fight against Rampage prior to the slam.

That whole tournament was set up from the get go to have Chuck and Wanderlei to fight in the finals. Obviously they had Chuck on the harder side of the bracket with Overeem and Rampage while Silva had it a bit easier. Only thing is Rampage threw a money wrench in those plans by beating Chuck. Rampage was grounding and pounding Wanderlei and they gave him a yellow card
