His wool is spectacular- these with the grey wool blow my mind. I (I think we all)learn so much from your videos. I am a grownup Vet’s Kid and saw a lot, but not sheep. My dad was a macho cool Cuban guy but he was a marshmallow for every critter- and they knew it. I saw so many furious and distressed animals gentle down after five minutes “wasted” on gentle talk and touch. You all are similar. You both have very sunny energy. Your obvious skill notwithstanding, I think the critters would not cooperate as much if you put out prickly feels!

We have an electric one from Premier One, as well and some regular hand shears. Last year I accidentally cut the cord in half while I was in the middle of one of our ewes and had to finish the job with garden clippers. That wasn't fun! Now I have a regular pair of the hand shears for back up.

When we first got into farming sheep, we had nobody to hire to teach dad how to shear properly. All we knew was that if we nicked them a bit, we were supposed to use pine tar. This was back in 1969. My dad's first trim on the twenty four initial sheep left it looking like twenty-four Dalmatians were grazing in the field. Years later when we had 225 sheep before lambing, we had no Dalmatians!
