My first playthrough I did all the good options and didn't take any of the Typhon abilities and at the end they recognized this that even though you ARE a Typhon, you preferred to only stick to the human traits and didn't take any of my native ones. I loved that

I love the ending of Prey so much with how much it contextualizes your playthrough. The only way you can get an ending where you have no choice but to kill Alex is to *literally* kill everything and everyone on sight. As long as you leave someone alive, you’re given the choice. But there’s so many ways to interpret that choice. If you killed almost everyone but then decided to work with Alex, that could be the Typhon gaining empathy after the fact and wanting to atone for what it did in the sim and what it has done in the real world. Played the goodest of boys but decide to kill Alex anyways? That could mean the Typhon did gain mirror neurons, but rather than just sympathize with other beings, it now *relishes* in manipulating and bringing pain to others becoming *truly* evil. It’s so cool how you’re essentially playing two characters: sim Morgan and the Typhon playing the sim. In that way, the morality of your choices is put under two potentially *vastly* different lenses depending on what the disparity is between your choices in the sim and your final choice at the end of the game.

Exactly, I had thought of this earlier where the player and the Typhon at the end are one in the same, the player has its mirror neurons but if they choose to kill Alex, what's their justification? Even if it's for a greater good Alex continues to play god, manipulating DNA therefore that could lead down a worse path in the future with ulterior movies. But on the opposite end, it could also be an Unempathetic act by the player just to see what would happen if they chose that choice.

The ending to Prey is very well made. As you mentioned, it allows for the posibility of Alex enchancing a species that kills to survive to now trick to kill to survive. However, this marginally undermines the empathy that the Typhon got. The ending where we kill Alex can be interpreted as the Typhon lashing out in anger because it cared and was just shown that it cared for nothing. Or that it cared but not for humanity but for the Typhon or the people that died thanks to Alex (the simulation goes a long way to shift all the blame onto Alex) and decided to kill Alex and the mechanical copies of the survivors because it didn't consider them human, because Alex already had mirror neurons yet went ahead with everything on Talos I. Kill them all is the only ending to Prey that I will presonally agree on. Alex either makes a better killing machine, which now is left with a feeling mind in an unfeeling world. Alex either makes said killing machine feel emotions before telling it that it cared for nothing, making it act out of emotions, empathy, because it cared. Alex makes said killing machine feel emotions but not for humanity but the other Typhons who were treated worse than lab rats and it decides to punish him for it. Alex makes said killing machine feel emotions for the people who suffered because of him and Transtart, which makes it kill him and the mechanical copies, because the machines are not human and Alex has shown himself to not act like one either.

Okay putting aside pyro jokes, this is an awesome video. The way that you put together how gamers are supposed to interact with not just video games but scenarios around them is such a brilliant way to put it. The line "How do I know I am seeing the color red or feel the heat of fire the same way as you?" is such a powerful question to ask when judging how hundreds of people make a response to a scenario that has no right or wrong. I like Prey (2017) better when I play it as a Typhon that's aware of the simulation, and once it tricks everyone into believing that it's learnt empathy, it goes full psycho and kills everyone in the room. At no point did the game ever prove to us that the Typhon could learn to empathise with us, and it makes far more sense it was learning how to better manipulate creatures that could.

This actually makes sense, since In mooncrash one of the playable characters hears the voice of their child asking them to retrieve a toy, and after they retrieve it, they take it with them back into an escape pod, and the voice of the child happened to be a telepath the entire time, that ends up blowing your head to bits. Pretty sure the toy was a mimic that was about to land on earth.

Prey has always been my favorite bioshock-esque game. Relating the players freedom to make moral decisions about the story events and characters, and the freedom to build their skills is very interesting. I’d extend that further to the freedom to explore Talos I. There is almost always multiple ways to get into a locked room. Fantastic video.

We need more games like World at War, GTA IV, and Far Cry 3 instead of online only (live-service) games that have emotes/dances and battle passes and that will cease to exist in 3 years, once the conglomerate parent company (Ubisoft, Epic, Take Two, etc) has milked the game for all that its worth, or until they deem the game not worthy to keep around. I want games with stories to tell, to make a player reflect, instead of a copy paste FPS with a reskin. The greatest lie in gaming is that games are going to get better, when in fact, the peak of gaming was in the mid 2000s with few exceptions. I hope there will be a revolution in gaming industry soon, because it has been stagnant for many years now. I mean it could be GTA VI that creates a renaissance in the gaming industry, but only time will tell. Also, I love the inclusion of your CG model in your videos. I cant think of any person on YT that does anything similar. I get a few laughs here and there.

Fake-Prey was my very first game whgich I deleted from my steam library after I forced myself violently through it in the end.
