Tears for Fears wrote some of the best songs from that era. I have great memories listening to this song the summer of 1985. My friends and I were all into BMX that summer. We were riding our Diamond Backs, Haro, and GT bikes. This song among several others like “Shout” were on the radio that year. Great great memories. Thanks again for a great guitar lesson Marty. You’re awesome! I love that Fender Stratocaster too 👍🏻

This algorithm is crazy! I heard this song today and was humming it a few minutes ago. So I THOUGHT: I'll ask my friend, who I know plays this song, to teach me. Then this video “randomly” appeared to me here on my KZbin… Thanks for posting this video! Excellent! Greetings from Brazil!

@ In my case, I'm 53 years old and I've been playing guitar since I was 13, but I've never really dedicated myself to the instrument. It's just fun for me, without any self-importance. So I was a teenager when this song became a hit, including here in Brazil.

You're absolutely right, my favorite is the 80s Rock, and Metal but in the 80s the pop was easy to enjoy to. I feel like Tears for Fears were like Pop Rock. I saw them in concert. I liked it all. This was another good lesson Marty, thank you for doing it. 😎🎸👍🏻

Once again, you never fail to amaze me with your skill and talents Marty. As an 80s teen myself, I too love rock music from that era. But this song and indeed the whole album 'Songs from the Big Chair', still sounds fresh today. In fact, just the other month I played the whole album to the wife, her first time and she said it reminded her of Peter Gabriel or Genesis! Where she always refused to listen to it as she said it was 80s pop music 😂. Great video Marty 🤘🏻

Very cool, I forgot about this 80's song. Speaking of 80's how about Cutting Crew Died In Your Arms Tonight. If you've never seen their live version of this (Rockpalast 2007), Gareth Mouton has an absolutely blistering mind blowing solo intro to the song.

I remember first hearing this song. Where I was, the day and the exact hour. That opening arpeggio on the keyboard had me hooked. Then the guitar started. First 5 seconds and I knew it was going to be good. To this day it’s one of my all time favorites. Never gets old. Great lesson. Love the content. Also, I have Frankie as well. Great guitar. About to finish Alex’s book “Brothers.” Fantastic read.

Thanx Marty. I always loved this song but never bothered to learn it. When I was starting out on guitar in 1988 I was learning stuff from ACDC , Van Halen & lot's of 50's / 60's stuff. But never got into the pop rock until later. I think it's the influences around you when you start. I was lucky. I had some family that played & a Blues / Rock band on the next block from me who taught me a lot. I like your teaching style. Cheers Brother.

Excellent video, Brother! I am a late 60s and 70s guy...rock, pop, soul, singer songwriter stuff, etc. But, it wasn't until the 90s that I enjoyed 80s pop. I was a music snob back then, and my crowd back then thought 80s pop was all bubble gum and silly, so we listened and played the 80s hair band music. Then the 90s hit the scene, and Rock (imho) went to hell. So, I went total 90s country and learned all those great 90s country artists (one I actually grew up with and played guitar with), and started getting into 80s pop, as well. And, now I have been playing 80s pop, 70s disco, and all the other genres that we rebelled against from the previous decades...without shame, anymore...lol! In fact, I've been playing this particular song, off and on, in my acoustic sets for at least 20 years now, and the crowds love it. I even learned something from you on this video that I am going to include in my version., Thank you for posting...Love your channel...

Thanks Marty! I love this one too. Song whore I guess, especially from that time. I need some advice on quieting my amps in the house. These little dogs I live with can't seem to appreciate the thunder. Not sure if a full on attenuator is right or something simpler. Couldn't think of anyone else I'd ask but my axe slingin brother from Nashville!

Man, attenuators are nice. They can color the sound a little. Bugera make a really cheap one. Perhaps get you a small practice amp like one of those little joyos I use. They are very manageable. Or a fender micro plus headphone amp. They are very cool!
