WTF!! I put headphones on and this sounded like it was the actual recording! Considering this is a '35+ yr. old' band....this was utterly amazing! Everyone nailed the authentic studio recorded soundtrack and that's not an easy feat. Recreating the guitar fills/parts alone is especially not easy. Look at some of the KZbin attempts at this song and I rest my case. That last guitar lead at the end......what type of scale is that!?! Never heard anything like it. Difficult to replicate - but, it was on the recording. As a gigging musician I am totally impressed and blown-away by this surprising, out of the blue, performance!

FACT: A new computer program recently showed both these guys are the number 1 singers in the world to sing at the same quality now as to their original recordings. The program overlays their current music over the original and comes out with a percentage of degrading, a bit like a vehicle dyno that measures the current power to that when was new. These guys dropped just 3% which was NEVER heard of (or 1% each 10 years) so... they re did the test and was correct. So good that as a comparison, the master copy ON tapes looses 2.7% every 10 years due to natural degradation!! Next closely followed by Def Leppard who was only 6.6% or 2.2 each 10 years...compared to Meatloaf that had lost 84% quality with 30 years... Well done guys...the quoting that you sound exactly AS GOOD now as ever before is a fact that cannot be disputed! Keep up the great music! 👍👍👍

There is a *slight* difference in pitch on the original recording, which is pitched slightly sharp of concert pitch (presumably someone sped up the tape a bit), but apart from that, yes, it is indeed a very good rendition, and the fact that they haven’t had to down-tune after all these years like some bands have had to due to deepening singing voices makes this even more of a delight.

Interesting. Is that a a 'shaker' that is creating the '3' against '4'? I will admit, that attempting to play what I call the 'shuffle' beat on the kick drum and then play '3' with that is something that I cannot do -- at least for the moment :) Even with the original recording, I thought a rather 'masterful' job was done with the hi-hat. Though, I did question just how much of this 'sound' and rhythm was one person I guess this is the 'independence' that many teachers talk about getting. I am not surprised that 'even' teachers play this differently among themselves. Just goes to show that we all bring something 'different' to this thing called rhythm.

As the years forge ahead, I am so incredibly sad that we can never ever go back for a replay. This song continues to stay with me - and touch my heart throughout, from its opening riff. I'm from Roland and Kurt's generation. We are the post Baby Boomers. In 1985, my girlfriend turned me on to this whole album. She said to me, "Listen to this... it's beautiful." I married her a year later. And we're still together.

@@Baz97__ I'm gonna have to disagree. And I'm not a fan of today's music. I'm a "take me back to the 70's-80's" guy , having just turned 47. But my wife at 49 years old can still find new music she loves and occasionally she'll send me a song I would have otherwise never heard , like Read My Mind by The Killers or Home by Edward Sharpe (probably got that one wrong and will have to edit). What I'm saying is , she can still find new music to send me and I fall in love with her all over again. But there's nothing like the stuff you grow up to.

This is one of the most iconic songs from the 80s - a decade replete with iconic songs. Many songs from the 80s were memorable, not only because they had a great melody, excellent instrumental work, and demonstrated fabulous vocal power, but because they conveyed a substantive message about the world. Many mainstream songs from the 80s concentrated on societal ills. What happened to mainstream music today? It seems as if almost no mainstream artist gives voice to the various problems plaguing this world. If you want to hear music other than that which engages in self-absorption, sex, fame or romance - if you want to hear about things that matter far more, like poverty, corruption, war, and inequality - nowadays you have to search for obscure alternative music. I long for the days when artist like Sting, Phil Collins, Don Henley, Tears For Fears, etc had something to say.

I just heard it again a couple of times (after many years that I didn’t even remember it existed) and I was amazed at the high-level arrangement and skills that were put into it. The guitar riffs, the vocals arrangement, the lyrics, the syncopation of the drum beat… damn, the list goes on and on. Great piece!

Older synthesizers were large, heavy, and unreliable compared to today's technology. Analog components break much easier than digital, and that's bad for a touring band. Plus, there's really nothing a digital synth can't do today that an analog synth in the 80s could do.
