that is the beauty of Rancid (and also Transplants)......sometimes you hear the song and its so different from that other version you just heard but you know its them and sometimes it just hits a little bit harder with the new key, at that time in your life. Spontaneous as hell and I love it! They sounded great in this one!

I guess he forgot about Scott Shiflett from Face to Face, who completely kicks ass on the bass :) Honestly though, Matt Freeman is up there with the best of them simply because of how melodic and compelling his bass playing is. And Out Come The Wolves was killer in that regard--just meaty, melodic bass lines that were tasty and addictive :)

When punk rock was still punk!
@devilsoffspring5519
@devilsoffspring5519 4 жыл бұрын
Actually, many consider this to be the "beginning of the end" of old-school punk because this is when the really melodic stuff was becoming widely known and very popular (early 2000s.) It started happening in the '90s and by the time this was released it was in full swing. If you ask me though, THIS is the good shit. I always preferred the more melodic style of stuff, even if it's "pop". So, in my own opinion it took quite a while for punk rock to become really good music.
@dgates6165
@dgates6165 4 жыл бұрын
@@devilsoffspring5519 That is a very interesting observation. I agree with you assessment of THIS being the good shit. Some pop punk is too much pop for me, but it's still a more enjoyable listening experience than something like Sex Pistols lol.
@devilsoffspring5519
@devilsoffspring5519 4 жыл бұрын
@@dgates6165 I'll give the Pistols, the Clash, Black Flag, Kennedys etc. the credit they're due. They're the originals, they made people aware that punk was something people do. It's just that I like *music*, and this shit's leaps and bounds ahead of the intensely angry and "authentic" old-school punk because it's much better developed musically/melodically. I guess it doesn't matter, I just prefer it. :)
@dgates6165

@@devilsoffspring5519 no, I agree with that as well. I still love the old school punk bands!
@devilsoffspring5519
@devilsoffspring5519 4 жыл бұрын
@@dgates6165 No doubt, they're the ones that got the ball rolling. I'll admit to a fondness for some of the really poppy stuff, although I'm getting far too old for most of that shit. I don't listen the the really early Green Day anymore, for example. I just think their newer stuff is much better. On the other hand I still really dig I'd Do Anything from Simple Plan for some reason, and that stuff's as poppy as it gets. I don't listen to most of the rest of that album though.

@@nicholasemerson9852 So, they'd be better off not playing at all just to win punk points? C'mon, get real, this is a great performance that nobody would have seen otherwise. The swear words in Red Hot Moon are a part of the original lyric, but they are not fundamental to the song, and if need be, they can be glossed over for a TV performance without ruining the whole song. A song like Bad Habit, from the Offspring, cannot be played without the swearing because it's fundamental to the song, and taking it out would ruin the song. Bad Habit is a song about road rage, so taking out the swearing would obliterate the point of the song--but, that simply isn't the case with Red Hot Moon. See what I mean?

During the tour of Indestructable he "stopped" playing guitar live, although he plays certain parts like at the intro here. I don't know the reason, but go back to performances earlier than this and he played the hell out of the guitar. Especially if you look back on performances from Rancid (1993) and Let's Go. Censorship sucks, which is why they had to make up for it by kicking fucking ass :) How come you aren't digging the rap? It works really well in the song and gives it extra impact and attitude. It's really good

Lars and Matt, and that’s it. Replace the drummer with anyone, Brett was capable though; and replace the clown with the fake guitar not turned on. Could’ve been so much more than a phony pop-punk band. It was never about fashion. Can’t take away from their success though, not even a little, and good on them, I hope they’re doing well. Line up the lemmings and Green Day, Rancid and *insert phony pop-punk band here* will come calling. I like it all just fine, but call a spade a spade. It’s pop music. TSOL, D.O.A., Vandals, Viletones, Bad Brains, Hüsker Dü, Fear, Stiff Little Fingers et al. were punk bands. Blondie is 10x more punk than Rancid could ever dream of being.

You're calling Tim Armstrong a phoney. Founder of Rancid and Op Ivy, one of the most creative musicians in modern punk and one of the most unique and distinctive punk voices..a phoney. Kid, Rancid has the most diverse song and album plethora not because they went pop, but because of Tim's creative energy and inspiration. Now you can go to sleep enlightened.

@@BantulPride Punk bukan cuma sekedar ngegembel dek, Televisi salahsatu sarana buat menyuarakan apa yang mereka mau. Dari awal Punk macem Ramones, Sex Pistols, Bad religion, the misfits, black flag, dan banyak lagi band Punk yang masuk tv. Kalo band punk cuma beraninya di komunitasnya doang, percuma cape2 ngebacot klo yg denger orangnya cuma itu2 aja, malah gak kena apa yg mau di suarakan.

Hard to believe that song was allowed on mainstream TV. "Found her in a dugout...she wouldn't wake up" Hey is Tim Armstrong related to Edwin Armstrong, the guy who invented FM radio, FM radio that could possibly play Rancid songs? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edwin_Howard_Armstrong

I doubt they're related, there are tons and tons of Armstrongs in the world. They're like Taylors, far too many to keep track of, let alone try to identify a common ancestor.
