+The Truthful Channel I agree with that and I would have felt better if he got the GOP nomination. He has different views on different topics and issues and I think in this day and age that is it. I have some conservative views, libertarian and liberal/progressives and he, Rand, point it out during one of the debates that just about all of the GOP candidates were not conservatives. He did it to Rubio and I was glad he did. I miss the Eisenhower Republicans.

supererik man I don't understand the logic of your argument. You say that Trump's views are not popular and yet he is winning the elections. Trump will modify his tone once he's won the nomination. then he'll attack clinton and win.
@supererikman5331
@supererikman5331 8 жыл бұрын
VHSpal i don't think so, he will continue being a far right candidate and even if he does, it is too late. He has gone to far to the right by pandering to the alt-right,that it will be very hard for him to move to the middle. He is winning the primaries, which means he is winning the vote of activist Republicans, that is not a representation of the general public though.

He's being very gracious toward Cruz. Cruz did more than anyone (including Trump) to sink Rand's campaign by being _just_ libertarian enough to steal his donors. He also survived the initial culling by bending his knee to Trump, while Rand and Jeb! went down fighting.
@TexanIndependence
@TexanIndependence 8 жыл бұрын
+CountArtha Hey you gotta appreciate that Trump took down the "inevitable" Bush dynasty. Before he got in the race we were doomed to another Bush vs. Clinton election. One down, one more to go (Hillary). Although if Trump doesn't get to 1,237 and it goes to a second or third ballot I can't think of ANY candidate that can unify the GOP besides Rand. Ted certainly can't and a RINO can't.
@EileenTheCr0w
@EileenTheCr0w 8 жыл бұрын
+TexanIndependence My ultimate hope in this is that Cruz wins the nomination at the convention or before (less likely) and then Rand is his VP. I'd support that 110%. I don't fully trust Cruz, but at least Rand would be guiding the Congress and bringing his message to a much larger audience. Then he could have a good shot at the presidency in the future if Cruz doesn't screw anything up too bad.

+Someone Reasonable Trump is wrong on trade, we dont need Trumps unilateral protectionism and trade wars with everybody. It is the same position as Bernie the socialist, that should indicate something to anybody who believes in liberty and free markets. I support stopping illegal immigration but am uneasy about going overboard on restricting legal immigration. And I cant stand Trumps support for crude bigoted nativism, like the birther demagoguery, its like we are returning to the Know Nothing Party.

+Someone Reasonable China yes, trade with them is not balanced between exports and imports, although even there our goal should not be to restrict our imports, but to insist they take more US exports. But Trade with Mexico is balanced, since they are one of our largest export destinations, 267B worth each year, and having a trade war with them would cost millions of US export jobs..
@richard40x
@richard40x 8 жыл бұрын
+Someone Reasonable We do not have a huge trade deficit with Mexico relative to our huge trade volume, we export to them 84% of what we import from them, that is a B grade, pretty good. And who cares what the trade is, as long as it is balanced. Actually the items you listed were all cases where each nation had a competitive advantage, as dictated by basic economic theory, each nation doing what they do best, and thus would be logical trade items.
@richard40x
@richard40x 8 жыл бұрын
My measure of balance is 84%, that is a B grade, not perfect, but good, not worth a trade war to move. and this year was actually better than last year, so you claim it is getting worse is wrong. And who cares who invented products, as long as the inventor gets a fair return. The Germans have auto plants in the south, providing US jobs, are you saying they should dismantle them because we did not invent those cars. The bottom line is whether trade is flowing both ways, and with Mexico and Canada it is. And yes, Mexicos competitive advantage is products that require cheap labor, ours is products made with modern technology, using highly paid labor, which job would you rather have. As long as the trade is flowing both ways, each nation is doing what they do best, both benefit, both get jobs from that trade, and both consumers benefit. As for the US rising by always having a trade surplus with everybody, that could work as long as we were still a small nation, but it is never sustainable long term, as Smoot Hawley demonstrated, only balanced trade is sustainable long term. Look at Germany vs Greece, Germany always had huge trade surplusses with them, did that help either nation, no, greece went broke, and Germany got stuck with unpayable debts.

When i was a kid at school I remember playing games where one kid would make up all the rules and if during the game he started to lose he'd get all upity and change the rules so he wouldn't lose anymore haha. Is this any different with the Republican Party, they do exactly! the same thing, they are like a bunch of infants. I am an Australian so my view is from an outside perspective where our electoral process is very different, there being no possibility of back room deals petty allegiances etc. Voting happens on one day where everybody Nation wide turns up and fills in paper ballots and those ballots are counted on the same day the winner being very clear. From my perspective there is to much ambiguity surrounding U.S. elections which serves the purpose of the appearance of democracy very well, but where the truth is very different with the outcome in almost 98% of cases being slanted towards a pre-ordained candidate as President. Wether Americans like it or not, every man woman and child acts as surety for the debt of the Nation that has been Bankrupt and under the control of the Federal Reserve since 1933. Until Americans start to understand the nature of their own status with regard to the 2 Party System and shake of the Status of slave under the law they will remain in Bondage to a System that in this election would see the inauguration of a Woman President who has a tiny fraction of the votes as compared to the President De Jure in Donald Trump with many many millions.

Rand fails to understand that Trump's message was even closer to Ron Paul than his own sell out half message. He's still not pointing out that Cruz is a war hawk and Trump is very close to Ron Paul regarding "empire".
@AllenMacCannell
@AllenMacCannell 8 жыл бұрын
No I'm not. Cruz wants war with Russia or at least the extremely stressful expansion of NATO around them and covert support for Al Qaeda everywhere as usual. Everything must be done to keep such a psycho out of the White House. Trump had to say he was "the most militaristic" to win the south, but everyone knew he was like Ron Paul on foreign policy except regarding ISIS. Rand wrecked his image by agreeing with neocons on intervention in Ukraine. Ron Paul would get his dream come true if NATO were disbanded. Although Trump would not be allowed to go that far, he would take Kissinger's advice that we need good relations with Russia so China and Russia don't collude to destroy the dollar. Trump has clearly stated that he wants to get Saudi Arabia to stop funding ISIS and he has a non-violent plan to do just that. No need to send US troops. Have you heard anyone else, except maybe Sanders, talking so reasonably about foreign policy? Open borders is great as long as there is roughly equal traffic going back and forth between countries. What's happening in Europe now for instance, is shocking and probably a big black mark against my erstwhile libertarianism. But, then again, I NEVER believed in one-sided open borders allowing historic once in a millenium mass immigration funded by people like Soros. Most Ron Paul supporters are now behind Trump for a reason.
@novawolverine

+Allen MacCannell "Trump had to say he was "the most militaristic" to win the south, but everyone knew he was like Ron Paul on foreign policy except regarding ISIS" How does "everyone" know? He has no track record whatsoever and flip flops all the time. What does Cruz have to do with anything. Are you actually trying to sit here and say that Rand's foreign policy beliefs are closer to those of Cruz's and Rubio's than his father's? That's nonsense. Trump thinks he'd be a king. Ron and Rand Paul supporters think the executive branch has too much power as it is. Ron Paul supporters are behind Trump because of all of the people who are still in the race, only he and Bernie have a meaningful non-establishment platform. And you still have to hold your nose to vote for either. Trump says we should throw the Geneva Conventions out of the window and bomb families of terrorists and waterboard. How often do you hear Trump talking about making government smaller and keeping it out of people's lives? That's not how he thinks. He beliefs in a more heavy-handed and interventionist policy for government.

It was Cruz who made the inept "make the sand glow" remark. He was lying when he said that because the Saudis give Cruz money as their lobbyist in DC. Trump would rather deal with ISIS by forcing the Saudis to stop funding them and letting Assad fight them. Ron Paul, Pat Buchanan and Trump are the only major players advocating a massive change in NATO policy. Rand lost most of his supporters because he tried to compromise with the war hawks by saying he'd support weapons deliveries to our proxy forces fighting unnecessary wars. Don't tell me there are any former Rand supporters now backing Cruz.

Libertarians will be settling for being like Diogenes, living half-naked, in a big jar in the city market, with their lamps, looking for honest men...in a market of all places. That is, unless they figure out how to combine ethics with shrewdness. Wake up and watch, Rand, Trump is NOT your enemy. He's your mentor. Keep your ideology, safeguard your ethics, but learn the techniques of winning big. it is just a skill, and he can learn it.

+Richard Forty (richard40) Well, if voting for someone who mathematically cannot win makes you feel good about yourself, have at it. Pretending that this choice has anything to do with libertarian idealism is not credible. It has to do with being upset that Ted Cruz dropped out, due partly to loss of financial, voter and delegate support. It has to do with not grasping why Ted's support didn't hold fast. Ted came to the race with an implausible argument above all others: a Living Constitutionalist view of Article II, coming from an "Originalist". For all I know, it was a test, proposed by the GOPe, and consented to by Ted, to see just exactly how stupid conservatives might be...are they as easy to Gruberize as Democrats are? As it turns out, the answer is a partial YES, except for the persons who said "no, uh-uh, I knew better than this since 6th grade.". It is a pretty good test of how deeply penetrative Living Constitutionalism has become. The sad thing is, no one can defend your 2nd amendment, or any of your pre-constitutional rights, with anything BUT Originalism. For all we know, Ted might just be a bigger Thespian than Trump....wait...yeah I am pretty sure he is. Because if he's as brilliant an Originalist as he claims, and he was only kidding...he did a great job. He suspended my disbelief, which is the entire aim of a good drama or mystery. Bravo, Ted.

@joyceclemons3916
@joyceclemons3916 8 жыл бұрын
+Richard Forty (richard40) No Trump isn't actually an authoritarian populist. He's a shrewd communicator who is using authoritarian modeling and the ripeness of populist sentiment to secure a more favorable bargaining position for the US in negotiating nation to nation agreements. He will criticize globalist cabals, if you and I force him too, or, we can be lazy and let him be lazy. I say, juice him. He has skills. The whole world is watching. We are supposed to be shrewd enough, and not so infernally married to rigid ideologies, to figure out what he is doing, and see to it that our advocates step in with a strong message when needed. Wake up to a chance to function in your own right as a libertarian, rather than a whiner about how nobody else "gets it". Cruz is neither a real conservative nor a libertarian. In all reality, he was (bye bye Ted) the most authoritarian and most demagogic of all the candidates. His Tea Party hegemony was a coup, with "help" from some deep pockets. And it didn't capture most of that movement, just a noisy group of self-appointed spokespersons. I feel bad for the naïve but sincere who bought it...but I'll get over that.

+Richard Forty (richard40) Rand is a fine human being, and yet he is not composed enough (yet) to figure out how to combine his wonderful ethics with shrewdness. It CAN BE DONE with honesty and integrity. You should watch Charlton Heston in interviews, defending the 2nd Amendment, to see how maturity, integrity and shrewdness can come together to disarm the opponent of your ideas. I was saddened to see Rand's mistakes in the debates, because we know he is a rising star and a great patriot. I have to say this...it is possible to like both men for different reasons, and still have integrity. For one thing, Trump, I believe, actually likes Rand and respects his integrity, but Trump made it crystal clear "I win, that is what I do." Trump also prefers win-win, whenever possible, but we only have one President. So he had to use Rand's mistakes, and by doing that, Rand should learn what they were. I will give you only two examples to think about: 1. He whom the "gods" would destroy, they first anger. Rand makes that too easy. 2. He should have not tried to make Trump the poster boy for Eminent domain, when Chris Christie was ripe to take his hits. He should have divided the attack and done better homework. Rand is a doctor, not a lawyer. But Rand can learn a legal tip: NEVER ASK A QUESTION YOU ARE NOT ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU KNOW THE WHOLE ANSWER TO YOURSELF. AND BE SURE YOU CAN PROVE YOUR POINT. He didn't do that. Also, Rand used a left-wing, partially debunked sound-byte narrative to do it. Way too naïve. Agree or not, this did not work for Rand, and it didn't help us any. Rand, learn from the opponents. That way, Rand will be ready when we need him MUCH more than we do now. Yes, that time will come, because of the ages of these surviving frontrunners. Rand MUST learn more about himself as he is seen by voters. And he CAN keep all the integrity, he can address his weaknesses, and he can become ethically shrewd. He's in my prayers.

Paul should have been there instead of Lyin' Ted Cruz. So much of his debate time was spent trying to get at Trump, which probably wasn't a good strategy given that there were 6 to 12 other candidates on the stage. Cruz didn't really clash with Trump until he had secured his spot as the major alternative to Donald. Sadly, much of the "conservative" base still likes to hear the same old Bush era talking points on terrorism, foreign policy and national security issues. Those who are skeptical went with Trump, those who are not went with Cruz- who came out of the Bush administration and the Texas Republican machine

Even that wont help, if Trump is the failed prez I think he will be. He may (I have to say may, who can count on anything from Trump) appoint 1 good justice before 2018. Then his failures give the dems the senate in 2018, and he compromises with Reid on a moderate. Then the dems take everything in 2020, and appoint all the judges they want, so long term we even lose on judges with Trump. We are not voting mainly for a court, we are voting for a prez, and Trump needs to convince me he will be a decent one (nor less bad then hillary, but actually good), and right now he is nowhere close to doing that.

"The funny thing is"... classic Rand. I need to use that. Rand was on point in this interview, smart man. I think its fair to say he was Trumped by celebrity. But he also wasn't very interesting as a candidate though, alienated his father's supporters by watering down his message and sounded too establishment and too much like a politician. It was a tactical error for him to have gone after Trump as well. He could have played for a prominent seat in the Trump administration, done more good than he can as a senator.
