Perhaps the frantic barking of Skye, our three-and-a-half-year-old Norwegian Elkhound as she trees squirrels during our walks along the Dungeness River ruins the ambiance, but in many ways Skye's presence enhances our outdoor experiences with nature and wildlife. I try my best to record and assemble video clips that represent our daily hiking experiences and our appreciation for the incredible beauty of the great outdoors on the east side of the Olympic Peninsula, especially along the Dungeness River near Sequim.
Background:
Some of our favorite locations for hiking with our Norwegian Elkhound, Skye, are the trails that follow along the Dungeness River: Railroad Bridge Park, Dungeness Trails, Dungeness Fish Hatchery and the Dungeness Levee. These public lands that are managed by the Washington Department of Natural Resources, The Department of Fish and wildlife, and the Tribes trails offer well-manicured multi-use trails that meander through open meadows, wind through young and mature forests, follow the bluffs overlooking the Dungeness River with paths that spider down steep grades reaching the rocky beaches along the river are absolutely beautiful, full of wildlife and of the sounds of nature, with the soothing rush of the river nearby. This is a peaceful, mesmerizing place for connecting with nature. Every season offers an entirely different experience.
