My Cheap Car Auction Land Rover - 4 Years Later

Years ago I purchased a cheap Land Rover Freelander 2 from a car auction. It had a couple of issues but I've been daily-driving it ever since. This car has unfortunately picked up a couple more faults in recent months, so today I wanted to talk about how it's holding up.

Have you tried replacing the battery? It sounds too simple to solve any issues, but a worn out battery can really cause quite a few issues. The fuel gauge, engine temp gauge and my rpm gauge would sometimes be totally off until I replaced the battery when my car had starting issues.

That doesn't seem like the battery- it wouldn't start at all, and if you jump started it, it'll immediately begin alternating current I believe- seems to be fuel delivery related- perhaps injectors or fuel pump. But then again, he did mention "electronics are dying" so maybe it could even be something cpu related

Been waiting for this video. Watched your old one again LAST NIGHT! Is that starter problem a battery fault? My battery was knackered and threw up every fault you showed. Also the earlier ones had an earth issue? I believe it was a recall. I'll add a second comment with a link in case you have links banned, i'd rather you saw it

I used to love electrical diagnostic when I worked for dealerships I even had my ASE cert, seriously I would check your grounds, or earth I think Brits call it, clean up and re tighten all the major grounds like the batt and PCM (or main computer) ground! Same age as my dad's Freelander 2, you'll want to check for corrosion on the rear subframe and the front of the rear arches (open the back doors and pull back the plastic/rubber part), apparently both are quite common on these cars.

I wonder if in the UK, overall people are as knowledgeable with British cars as French with French cars. If you had yknow a Peugeot 207 with a weird electrical issue as a french youtuber you would get about 30 people saying "oh yeah its that module thats failed, its impossible to find working and its 1k€+ when you find it so good luck with that" (definitely not a real thing hahaha x07 peugeot so reliable hahaha PAIN) so idk if theres a land rover wizard out here "oh yeah btw that's this module thats fried but hopefully thats just a fuse thats effed up so you could repair it" because thats what your symptoms look like to me, one or several failed control module. Btw i'm talking about peugoet because i believe your engine is from PSA. I recall Rovers from that era used various PSA diesels. Welcome back tho, i effin love videos like the one you make here. An HDC fault and the possible wiring/electrical issues your having seems like it could be a bad battery, which is something that should be swapped first as theyre pretty cheap

I know what’s wrong with your car not staying on until the second try…your auto start-stop system isn’t working right. The icon is lit up on your dash when you start it. It’s supposed to automatically turn your engine on and off in traffic to save gas Push that button down by that switch you were turning, it is that button that says “Auto/ Man”. Switch it to “Man”. That’s the auto start-stop. All this could be related to your electrical gremlins

I agree with the other folks about the battery. Possible battery cable corrosion or new cables needed? Electronics are the worst to troubleshoot sometimes. Take care. Just subscribed. Cheers from the States.

hard start issue sounds like a fuel pump problem. As for the terrain response etc.. a failing ABS sensor can be a culprit. Scanning the car should tell you.

Daft question but have you checked your 12v battary low voltage can cause loads of errors as the modules computers crash common cause of issues on Renaults
