When Sauron killed Glug, I was shaken! A grand tragedy, the magnitude of which has been unseen since the days of Shakespeare! Tears washed over my cheek like a spring rain over the bones of a spoiled carcass as I desperately tried to sweep them away like salt from a table. Glug and his unexpected demise, though tragic, opens up intriguing possibilities for exploring his family. How will they cope with the loss of such a central figure in their lives? First, there’s Glugina, Glug's formidable yet tender-hearted partner. She's known for her strength in battle but also for the quiet moments she shared with Glug, away from the chaos of war. Now, without him, will she seek solace in someone else? Or will the void left by Glug harden her heart, turning her into a fearsome leader in her own right? The potential for new alliances, perhaps even romance with another Orc or an unexpected ally, offers rich storytelling potential. Then there’s Little Glugling, their child. Born into a world of darkness and conflict, Glugling faces the pressure of living up to his father’s legacy. Will he follow in Glug’s footsteps and join Sauron’s forces, eager to prove his worth and avenge his father’s death? Or might he take a different path, one that questions the very nature of Orc loyalty to the dark forces? Glugling’s journey could be one of self-discovery, torn between his father’s shadow and his own destiny.

I think the Glug show could really capture the spirit of ROP. Don Lemonlass should meet the Glugs by a ridiculous contrivance. Stirred by the Glugs' pain and grief, he finds Glug's corpse and makes it into a skinsuit. The show can have hilarious comedy where Don wearing the Glug skinsuit tries to pretend to be Glug and is rejected repeatedly by the Glugs. Despite this, he lectures the Glugs about Elven morality like respecting trees and rejecting unga bunga, and that it's very rude to say he's obviously an elf wearing Glug as a skinsuit. Then Pharazon tells the Glugs, "hey, you know that's just an elf in a skinsuit." The Glugs, stirred by disinformation and hate, unga bunga Don.

There's three things I can praise in this episode. 1. Galadriel finally got something that vaguely resembled a humbling. 2. Gil galad made me laugh twice. Patiently waiting by a coma patient just to berate them the very second they awoke, and the absolute insane Frank Reynolds energy when he yelled 'Dwarves!'. I'm not sure the latter was meant to be funny, but it had me howling. 3. My nightmare did not come to pass. When Galadriel asked Adar what his name once was, he didn't respond with 'Celeborn'. Even the sentient potatoes writing this script did not dare go that far. That's it. This episode was a dumpster fire, and I'm eagerly awaiting watching Random tear into this bloated mess of no payoff, time-wasting plotlines. I'm also expecting a giant trampoline joke or two about Galadriels ability to ignore the consequences of gravity 😂

Two seasons in and Gandalf has learned his name and acquired a staff. The plot is a colossal waste of time and is utterly disconnected from everything else going on. We can’t even pretend like it’s developing character because Gandalf is trying to unlock his memories and nothing he’s doing is representative of who he really is. Every second spent with this plot is time that could have spent giving other plots time to breathe, like Durin III’s corruption. Think of what a great character Boromir is. Now imagine we got multiple seasons of telling the story about a great hero who experiences a tragic end. And then you have Isildur, who will go on to ultimately defeat Sauron after Gilgalad and Elendil and his off-screen brother are slain, but fails to destroy the ring. What a great, tragic character he could be. And look at what the show does with him, having him kidnapped by Shelob off screen only to spend time chilling with Theo and cucking a wild man.

But since Celebrimbor stands in defiance and refuses to tell Sauron anything (please note: the 7 and the 9 are at this point in the posession of Sauron, but not the 3!) in his rage Sauron fastens Celebrimbor onto a pole, odrers his Orcs to turn him into an arrow cushion, and then wields the body as a gruesome standard during the following battles.

So it is lore accurate that Sauron would choose "just shoot arrows at him" as a torture method?

@jinks6005Ай бұрын
@@jessjess23brooks89 Substituting Celebrian for her mother would be too logical for the ROP show runners. The script’s requisite Orc hatred is far better served by Celebrian as her motivation is easy to understand by all audiences from the fanatical to the casual. The show’s writers would probably be confused as to how they created a likeable female character and would quickly undermine her by having her go full Stockholm Syndrome and fall in love with an angry, well muscled but ultimately misunderstood young Orc who gives sweets to the human child prisoners out of kindness and not to fatten them up for dinner. Their forbidden love would of course be put to the test when Galadriel sets up Celebrian on a date with a handsome evil young metal worker named Halbrand in the hope that her daughter would come to her senses and dump her Orc boyfriend Splub, in favour of the way cool upwardly mobile evil lost evil King of the evil Southlands, Halbrand And hey presto, no sooner than ROP has a ship-tastic love triangle, who arrives on the scene fresh from his recent break up with Prince Durin? @exantiuse497Ай бұрын
Galadriel being Celebrian would have solved so many issues with that character, from lore perspective at least. She would be a relatively young elf instead of an incredibly ancient one (explaining why she is so rash and lacking of wisdom); she wouldn't have the obscene magical powers Galadriel has in the books so her being overpowered would be more plausible; she wouldn't me married so her falling for hot men would be more appropriate, and the romance between herself and Elrond the writers clearly want to push would actually make sense and be lore accurate. Her motive for hunting Sauron could be that she thinks her _parents_ rather than brother are dead (they wouldn't really be, just missing, and they'd appear in a later season, or maybe they'd be dead and return from Valinor which is lore-plausible even if not accurate for those specific characters). It's pretty sad that random KZbin comments make so much more sense than the actual show
@MajorSmurfАй бұрын
The only reason they don't want to do that is because she is not a character in LOTR (Movies) and possibly that Celeborn would have to be an actual character. Can't have the daughter without the father being more relative. Hell seeing as how they gave Cirdan negative screen time, they could have Celeborn instead. Honestly seeing Galadriel being an actual leader would be nice, as she is in no way close to being wise. A hamster knows more than she does.
@jinks6005Ай бұрын
@@MajorSmurf They could easily include Celeborn in a Celebrian centred story because the writers would no longer be shipping Galadriel with Sauron. The writers would still mess it all up and I can think of a number of ways they could do it but suffice it to say that they would probably turn Celebrian into a sort of a Pattiy Hearst- type figure who joins the Orcs in their war against the people of the Southlands in order to rebel against her Aristocratic parents as she falls under the sway of the handsome young rebel leader Che Halbrand. You'll never guess who he really is.

I understand the reasoning for why one would think Sauron can manipulate time due to the way the story is presented, but honestly I don’t think that was even remotely the intent of the writers. They simply don’t understand how the passage of time works or how to write a story, period.

If you don;t give your audience some idea of where the floor is, they have no point of reference for what characters can and can't do, and immersion is just gone. I'm so thankful for your videos. You break down every single issue I have with this show/why everything feels so wrong in such a meticulous and well thought out way. These autoposy videos have been 100x more entertaining than the show itself and I genuinely looked forward to each and every one. If only the writers put half as much thought as you did into their billion dollar show maybe we would all be enjoying a golden age of Tolkein. I can only imagine how much work goes into each one of your videos and I want to thank you for your service. You are extremely talented and it pains me to see that your talent isn't being put to use on a much larger scale while these so called "writers" (hacks) are making massive amounts of money in roles they have no right in having. I hope they spend an immeasurable amount of time watching your entire series because they obviously didn't for season one, which I cannot fathom because what kind of professional doesn't want genuine feedback as to how their work can be improved?! This entire critique series was done in good faith and judging the show on it's own merits which is so commendable. It is so much easier to critque it in comparison to the Jackson trilogy and Tolkein's work, but you did it the correct (and much more difficult) way. Again, thank you. You deserve the time off as to not become your retarded alter ego as you mourn the loss of Glug; you have my thoughts and prayers ♥ As for feedback on your critique, I honestly don't have much. The Balrog just going back to sleep after killing the king is absolutely comical and one of the laziest excuses of writing I have ever seen. The amount of added mystery boxes to desperately persuade the greenlighting of season 3 in this episode alone is astounding (Durin's brother? Elendil's second son? Cemen teleporting to Pelagir to tell the men of Wilde they must pay in timber alone because Ents? Adar's name and Elven history? The letter the 100% proves Miriel's collusion with Sauron that was definitely not forged by Lord Buggernutz minutes prior; what did it say? Sauron in possession of the 9 rings for men that he will now have to personally deceive the best of Men has to offer? The Sword or the Shield? The Elven sanctuary of definitely-not-Rivendell? Raputin's attonement to Gandalf to regain his trust as an extremely close ally? Glug wife and Glugling now a broken family?) Sorry my brain is frying as I try to think of all of them. Also, I think they wanted the audience to believe that the trees helped slow Galadriels' fall as they made an effort to show her hit them on the way down? And conveinetly land on a pile of brush? Also, the FACT that Aarondir is somehow alive and the show just forgets that it gave us the edit WITH him getting stabbed not once, but twice, only to act as if it never happened whatsoever is honestly mind-boggling. Imagine being the actor and seeing that and not being like "hey, guys? what was that?" - I imagine we will start season 3 with Theo burning another wrapped up body in Pelagir (it's like poetry, it rhymes). You know what it is? I bet it is because they totally forgot he ties into the Ent plot and need him for season 3 AFTER the fact. Unbelievable. IF season 3 is a thing, they DESPERATELY need to just write out the Nori, Poppy, and Gandalf plot. This show just tries to do too much with too many characters; they even made new, ORIGINAL characters in a story that already has too many in the source material. While I still believe the Numenor plot should have been it's own entire show, rotating between the Elves, Dwarves, and Numenor would alleviate SO many issues (not nearly enough to salvage this, but it's a good start). Now excuse me while I go and watch the Jackson triology in their extended editions as a pallete cleanser. See you in December!

Regarding world building costuming is so important. In good media costuming is an immediate way of telling you about a character. It can indicate culture, social class, financial status, lifestyle, a characters values and personality. For instance a high quality but dirty cloak vs a poor cloak in prestine condition tells you a lot about them, even small details like a sleeve being damaged where a character picks at it with anxiety. A person's clothing is important. Rop fails so often. Sometimes cheap cuts are the problem such as the printed on fabric mail for the numenorians (and what's with the moob armour), sometimes it's immersion breaking such as the numenorians randomly having perfect elven armour of perfect size for galadriel in season 1 as well as lending her an oiutfit whilst shes there wgich doesnt match what the numenorians wear, the limited changes in outfits meaning time doesnt seem to pass which also adds to the feelinh they are teliporting, sometimes it makes no logical sense such as the lack of basic armour, even chain mail when elronds led quest from Lindon to erigone in season 2 when they know there may be enemies and even choose the group for their fighting skills, galadriels final white dress also makes no sense as she couldn't be wearing it under her outfit the wsy it was in eregione and it is highly unlikely that the fleeing elves took the time to pack extra clothes and energy to carry them and the ones we are shown definitely don't, the armour too is illogical, the most obvious is the horses in the cavalry charge where the armour does not protect their chest but only protects where the rider is sitting, again poor quality is a problem with clearly not metal breast plates even in close up shots (most obvious when elronde and gilgalade are prodded whilst on their backs), illogical is the rusted armour of the guards/soldiers of erigone during the height of its glory which is also immersion breaking as it doesn't make sense, for me one of the most frustrating is the fabric choice of poor quality rough looking of anatars white outfit, to fit his character as one of the valar the fabric should be sumptuous and rich, it aggrevates me so much each time. Tom bombidle is also one of the biggest offenders. There are many more examples over both seasons. And god the props, worst one i think is rasputins staff, just look ay it! World building is such a key aspect to telling us a story and when things jar for one reason or another it truly does impact the viewer and costuming is really important in that (you've said it yourself with the lack of costume changes increasing the feeling that they are teleporting). I would love it random if uou could include a small section on this in your final autopsy

If it turns out Rasputin is Saruman which would make sense from a producers standpoint since they seem to want to put in every identifiable thing they can think of from the lord of the rings. However if they did it would throw a wrench in the setup from fellowship as Gandalf trusted Saruman to be good and was surprised that he sided with Sauron. Here though, he’s given up the ghost that he’s ambitious as all hell and manipulative of those he would call friends. So Gandalf trusting him afterwards is laughable. I’m leaning towards it being Saruman because the writers like name dropping identifiable shit and they’re banking on their audience being film watchers more so than book readers. So the chances of them namedropping any of the other wizards is unlikely. Then again they might NameDrop someone else purely to spite the people guessing it’s Saruman even if they don’t have anything to properly set it up.

We have no idea how long it took the Orcs to besiege Eregion. It feels very short like a few days at most but it seems like the authors think many weeks have passed. Which would then again raise questions with the bloody dam.
@exantiuse497Ай бұрын
The siege lasting for weeks is not at all unrealistic to be fair. Medieval sieges often lasted for weeks or even months or years, in fact the most common tactic was to sit outside the settlement until it runs out of food and surrenders The orcs don't have a way into the city since it's surrounded by the river and attacking via the bridge is suicide, they only get in once they block the river (the way they do it in the show is ridiculous, I'm not even trying to explain that) Meanwhile the elves are outnumbered ten to one so they can't sally out, and the river+mountain prevent them from escaping (except the tunnel... for argument's sake let's say Celebrimbor and Galadriel were the only ones who knew about it), so all they can do is wait and hope help comes before they run out of food (or the orcs somehow dry up the river and attack) My assessment is that the writers intended the magical world to be an illusion and not a time loop, and Celebrimbor saying he had been working for weeks was intended to convey that the siege had indeed lasted for weeks, however the way the scenes were shown made it look like the orcs attacked immediately after laying siege which made it sound contradictory. It doesn't help that the show had played it very fast and loose with the passage of time before

WOW they did absolutely nothing to make us understand this characters and why they come to the conclusion to do this. It's just a "clever thing, a clever writer would do, look at the symbolism". When in reality it's actually the only reason that the Orcs betray Adar is that the Orcs have betrayed Sauron before. Clever. The dwarfes ... I don't know what to make of this. So the Balrog is no longer a problem because ... a paperthin wall has been established between them and the fire demon. Yeah okay. And we're teasing more Game of Thrones bullshit now with the dwarfes because remember that show? Also I feel like we haven't heard anything of this brother of Durin. Who is he? Why is he not the Prince? Durins mother died giving birth to Durin if I remember correctly, so he should be the younger brother. Is the true heir therefore the brother? Where was he all the time? Did Eddy Stark have him as hostage in Winterfell? How does he even know that daddy Durin is dead? One more thing I would ask the writers about is the Celebrimbor/Elrond prophecy. "One day my life will be in your hands." That should mean there's a moment Elrond faces a choice or an option, and either fails to act or chooses wrongly. What moment would they say Elrond dooms Celebrimbor? If you ask me, it's in episode 2 when he went to pout in the Grey Havens instead of heading back to Eregion to warn Celebrimbor. But that decision happens entirely off-screen so the writers did not focus on it. Would they choose the moment Elrond halted the charge to save Galadriel? They don't really let that moment have the weight it should since they again have important things happen off screen, which is Elrond entering the orc encampment to parley. It's a setup with a payoff somewhat missing.

The time loop problem is solvable by basic competency in writing. All they needed to do was show Celebrimbor exhausted on some previous occasion such as when Sauron was claiming he was stretching himself thin, show us a few cues for "oh, Celebrimbor is exhausted overworking himself," and then have that be what tips him off to the fact that he's in an illusion several episodes later. Not because Sauron, The Deceiver, was too stupid to not have a looping CGI mouse, but because he's exhausted despite sleeping and realizes it's because whenever he tries to sleep, Sauron is giving him the illusion of sleeping and waking up but actually he's not sleeping at all. We can then have him think he's been there for weeks because any free time and sleep he's had has actually not happened, he is having fake memories inserted into his head to skip past anything but him working on the rings, and has been there for drastically less time but has also done nothing besides work. I can't even begin to talk about my other problems with this show and episode because I have too many at this point to narrow it down. But that one is, once again, completely explainable... by doing five minutes of thinking, which is more minutes than were spent by the writers thinking about all the plot points of this show combined.

Given that the seven rings clearly are capable of corrupting the wearers to the point where they will do Sauron's bidding without any further persuasion... Why does Sauron even need to make the One Ring?!
@slaaptАй бұрын
Where did they do Sauron's bidding? I'm reasonably sure no orders were given.
@dominic150Ай бұрын
The dwarf lords in no way did any of Saurons bidding. Where did this comment come from?

he read the script....

I’ve never seen such horrific writing. How has no one questioned this script? It breaks every tried and tested literacy device. I’m constantly confused watching this show without realizing exactly why. Thanks for putting into words why I’m finding it so hard to emotionally and logically follow this mess.

9:23 I took that line as meaning the mountain isn’t a thing that can be owned. They did establish that the stone singers have a connection to the mountain in a somewhat coherent relationship of equals. So maybe it’s an entity of its own in their eyes? I realize I’m stretching but that is what we have to do to make this show make sense.

It could also be a reference to Aule but we're giving them too much credit I think.

I took it the same way. Seemed fairly obvious?

I’ve heard a lot about some sort of elven army, but I never saw more than an elven platoon on screen at any given time.

Note that we care more about losing Glug than we do the nameless elf lady who had to steal Boromir's death to try and make us care about her...

Were this in theaters and in 2000ish, I would be camped out for tix to this premier as we speak.

My best friends and i camped out for Return of the King. They aired Fellowship, Towers, and Return back-to-back in the same theater. Good memories. :)

@@multi-florum Did the same with some friends minus the camping. But the many endings were torture as the last break had been some while ago and we drank quite a bit of soda if you understand.

I recall when The Two Towers came out, me and my buddy went to the first screening at midnight, I had to take an important math exam first thing in the morning at school, great memories. Also school took all of us to the theater to see that movie, one of the best school trip I've had. Damn high school was great back then. right before all the BS with social media, cellphones and things of the kind, back when games and movies were awesome!

I found myself watching every episode of Rings of Power just so I could watch these videos properly. It was almost worth the rage I felt at things like Tom Bombadill quoting my favorite Gandalf line out of context. Still your videos are like the light at the end of the dark tunnel that is ROP and every week I can't wait for the next one to come out. Thank you for that.
@askarsfan2011Ай бұрын
I think because the writers tried to conclude all the storylines in the final episode, they probably ended up with a 2 1/2 hour episode, which Amazon absolutely refused to air. Then they had to do so much editing and cutting of important information that the episode turned into a collection of plotholes. Arondir's miraculous recovery is probably the most egregious because there is no explanation for it at all. Personally, I think Adar healed him. Adar took the Ring from Elrond, put it on, rediscovered his love for fellow Elf, and healed Arondir. Unfortunately, we don't get to see it because there is no time for this scene in the episode. Also Sauron convincing all the Orcs to follow him instead of Adar is probably another cut scene. Gandalf fiding a dried up stick under his feet and deciding that was his magic staff is probably the lamest origin story the show ever did. The writers have no time to develop anything interesting or creative because they have too many subplots, so all of these character developments are lame and banal. They should have done the stories in consecutive order -- the way that Tolkien actually wrote them -- instead of trying to cramp them all into a single soap opera.

Even good shows don't survive a grand finale being cut down into an any% speedrun to end credits.

Why did Mirdania suffer bone-crushing injuries from a 25 metre drop when it's established in The Hobbit trilogy that Legolas in full battle armour and carrying a bow only weighs 4.1 kilograms? She could have used her own dress as a parachute.
