Man......i really H-A-T-E that number as it reminds me of the possibility of doomsday. Besides, what an HORRIBLE GPU it was. Not only it was noisy. It could make newer titles like MK10 and the Dirt series (the latest installments, that is.) look like those were being played on a office-spec machine on integrated graphics. No wonder it failed so miserably. Greetings.

Now I like to mess with hardware as much as the next guy, but this card was cursed for me aswell. Sticking it in my system caused several BSODs and after I finally got it working, I messed with it for a bit. Afterwards however when I went to put my main card back in, for some reason games would stutter like they were running on a GT 210. Turns out that this card ended messing up my CPUs lane allocation and my graphics card wasn't being feed enough bandwidth. For two weeks after this card was pulled it messed with me. All I am saying is just watch your back.

When you slot that into a PC, that allows the demons to travel from the possessed card into your own PC (through the PCIE slot. This is where science meets ancient magic) and that's how the demons get into your house. It's like when Jonathan Harker goes into Dracula's castle, and Dracula says he can go into his room and "make his toilet" (victorian-speak for "taking care of basic hygiene. Which is not a euphemism for taking a slash, it means washing your face and related stuff) and silly Mr. Harker "makes his toilet", thereby using Dracula's haunted "sitting room". The book kinda glosses over this part, and it's not in any of the movies. But read the book. Dracula says "velcome to my house" and a paragraph later, he tells Jonathan to make his toilet. At 12 years old, I assumed Harker was going to Dracula's house to install modern plumbing.

Actually, I had an old Titan I found in storage a while ago (the original Titan) and had all sorts of similar issues. I think it's just the overall compatibility problems getting such an old card to work with new hardware. It had plenty of power for 1080p medium to high gaming still, but holy crap did it do some weird shit. Several reboots, USB on the motherboard failing, one CPU that just stopped working, but worked again once the card was out and the bios was flashed back to default. Really weird stuff, maybe it's all the workarounds they used to get so much performance out of the old PCI-E slots, maybe it's something they did to cheap the bandwidth, maybe it's just a really wonky power draw due to aging caps. I have no idea, but yeah. Avoid old GeForce cards like the plague, I've had them do all the same stuff yours did.

The 9800GX2 lol, an awesome single card back in the day. Except the 8800 Ultra was better than a GTX 9800 and 8800 Ultra SLI was way better than this card. There was a bit of performance gain on the single 9800, but it actually had less VRAM than the 8800 Ultra. So in games like Crysis where you needed that extra VRAM, it would lag and stutter. You should set the fan to 100% and see how far you can OC it. Probably not much. VRAM might OC without too much extra heat.

And to finish it all off the card died when it was one year old , funny thing is that I have hardly used it as I did no have much time back then and I have set the fan curve settings to blow more air on the hot mess of a card , it was loud but I have shaved loads of heat from the card . Still it went belly up in the end and I have wished that I have just bought the cheaper 9800gtx .

There is nothing strange about how badly that GPU performs, problems like the ones you have experienced are common across all variants of that specific GPU. The reason being is because it has a faulty architecture so it's not just a driver/thermal issue and even then you can only get certain drivers versions to work on it.

Hey if you don’t want the card I’d gladly take it off your hands! I could add it to my collection or use it in my early raid array considering that doesn’t have a GPU yet. It won’t be running any games, but at least it will get some use out of it right? It will live a cushy life.

i have this exact card in working conditions, and it's funny to use because it's kind of very powerfoul for it's time, but it's very noisiy, which makes me avoid it to use it in an actual old pc build

you may do the old DIAWA strategy with that cursed thing

"Directional pad up" in Crysis, are you really using a gamepad for a shooter on a PC? Did the card break your mouse too?

I'd also flash the card bios, just in case :) Also.. can we we a comparison to an actual GTX9800 SLI setup? :D
