Wow, so the rumours were right... It is in fact slower than a 1050Ti 🤦♂️ I really can't see the appeal of it at 150$, should've been an 80$ or 100$ card to truly replace the 1030... Why on earth is this $150? It gets smoked by the RX 6400 at the same tier of price point, and that card was criticized for being overpriced. Needing a 6-pin for this level of performance in 2022 is crazy! If it were half the price and had 50W TDP it would be a great card, but it seems ridiculous.
@SapphireThunder2 жыл бұрын
The 6-pin power here is simply Palit's own choice of including one. The Official TDP of GTX 1630 is 75W. You can blame Palit for uselessly adding extra power plug for this model. But there definitely will be models without one. Even low profile ones.
@iceboyzz22 жыл бұрын
The real reason the RX6400 got criticized for is the lack of hardware de/encoding support and the limited amount of monitors that can be hooked up to it. It can't game very well, but for all the other use cases it was also kind of useless. This 1630 could be a great addition to a Plex server or a system that needs 3x 4k to be hooked up to it. There's actual use cases for it. Gaming was never the main focus of this card.

I think this release is even *worse* than the RX 6500 from AMD - probably the worst GPU in terms of price/performance I can think of for all of the 15 years I've been interested in PC hardware. I reckon the fact that prices on GPUs beginning to fall has had something to do with that there doesn't seem to be the widespread outrage there was at the RX 6500 - maybe there being a lot of pent up demand at the low end. The best way of summarising this situation is that while the 6500XT was an RX 590 for PCIe 4.0 systems , an RX 480 for PCIe 3.0 systems for what you'd have paid for an RX 590 in 2019. Not good at all , but wait until you see what Nvidia presents you... A slower GTX 960 for what you'd have paid for a GTX 960 in 2014. More like a 4GB GTX 950 with a slight clock bump , and would have been an underwhelming card back then if nVidia released it for £170 then , this is a complete ripoff in 2022. Yes , you get some basic encoders and an extra display out for your trouble this time round to go for the pitiful performance for £180 , as Scan price it up at. /rant

Even at $150 US it's a bad deal. Right now for $159 you can get a RX6400 and the cheapest new 1650 is $180 (though for $20 more you can get a Super version). The RX6400 even in a 3.0 PCIE slot runs better in most games than this card and it only use 54W and it's half of the bus lanes you would think that it's a disadvantage, but it ain't. This is a pointless card at it's asking price. Now if the card was being sold for under $100 then I can see this as a okay choice. But to be frank I would just go straight to the used market, and take my chances. At the time of posting I can get a OEM GTX 1660 for around $100 used or a Ti/Super for $20 more on eBay.

I run a machine with a rx 570 and one with a 1050ti, FSR is great for getting fps, but tbh my eyes can always tell the difference even at higher scales. I always take the frame dip and prefer full 1080p as it just looks nicer than FSR. FSR is just grainy too me.

@Josue316272 жыл бұрын
Seems rather pointless with the 6-pin power connector. Palit should've sent ya a low-profile one as that's the only real reason to buy this. Most 1650s don't even need a 6-pin connector. Yet a weaker card needs one. It shouldn't at all. Imagine a GT 1030 needing one. It also has the same TDP as the 1650 despite having much less shaders and actual power consumption is high enough to sell one with the 6-pin. The temperatures aren't that good either for what it is. It probably is meant to compete with the RX 6400, yet it should perform noticably worse. Honestly this GPU could have a silver lining IF it was priced right. And I have a feeling it won't be.

Im glad you reviewed this card. there is a gainward that looks identical to this card. just different branding. At $100 it could be a good card for the kiddos but there are other options out there. RX 570, RX 6400, an older card like a GTX 780 would gobble this card up alive but would draw much more power but would be a much lower initial cost. for $100 bucks I would build PC's to the ceiling with this card but this and the RX 6400 are both kinda overpriced. However gas is up to $4.50 a gallon in the USA so they might as well milk the shit out of everything else too.

Cards like this have traditionally come into existence for OEs like Dell and HP to have "gaming" computers with budget parts. One thing the OEs found in the past was that when the cards were specific to them and not available at retail, they sold worse so we started getting these weird cut-down cards in retail packaging. The upside is you can always find one on sale somewhere for well under MSRP. Shoot, I picked up a pair of GDDR5 GT 1030s several years ago for $29.99 each and, with some promo gift certs, paid a whopping 99 cents each. Grabbing an old refurb office PC and one of these things on sale could let you put together a PC that'll let someone play older games like GTA V with ease (GTA V RP is still mighty popular) and even modern games at 1080p/medium settings without issue.

Would be interesting to see this tested with older motherboards/cpus. I understand the people saying a used 1070 is around the same price point, but this is for older cpus that would otherwise bottleneck a 1070 over 50%, plus it has a warranty-if you're unlucky with a used 1070 there's no way of telling when it will fail. OEM builders will love this card though because they probably get a bulk discount so they can build a zillion general use prebuilts and push them out to stores/offices.

I mean, I believe the reason why the 1050ti performs slightly betters is just because of driver support, since the 1050ti has been out for so long, game developers and new drivers had it in mind to enhance performance on average hardware, as this card ages and gets cheaper, say 100 dollars or less, then, yeah, it's just a updated 1050ti that's newer and could be a bit faster RAM wise once drivers are better optimized, and considering there will be low profile and no pin connector versions of this card, I definitely think it has a purpose, it *is* to replace the 1050, 1050ti, and the awful 1030, so after a couple of months, I think most people's opinion on this card will change, even still though, they could've handle the launch better by being more transparent and releasing non-pin required cards first, don't forget there are version of the 1050ti that require power pins as well
