So many people complaining about the metal handles but I think it’s actually cool that he is doing something different to usual. You can find heaps of videos of people restoring knives to have normal wooden handles but like he does something creative with different processes so just chilllll
@jundies1715 жыл бұрын
Maddie Hopkins most people use or flip the recreated knives/blades they make. Wood is just overall a better material. Lighter, Cheaper and (in an opinion type of stance) a better aesthetic. props to him for doing something different, but it is apparent that either he makes showroom knives or he just enjoys impractical knives

why is that?
@goldenkeeper47875 жыл бұрын
@@kailewis4195 yes, im curious too
@beckstheimpatient41355 жыл бұрын
@Kai Lewis and @Golden Keeper Because a restoration preserves the original form. The blade has been through quite a change, having been reforged to a large extent, and the handle is absolutely gone. There's no intent to preserve the original here. I'd call it more like 'upcycling a very old blade simply because you could'. Thing is, with all the time, energy and money that went into remaking that knife, you could probably buy a brand new one. Since it was less restored and more recycled, you can't even justify it as 'a sentimental investment that was worth the work'. I'd like to think this was more a test of OPs skill, and that they can continue to improve their abilities by learning from their process here.
@samalberry23675 жыл бұрын
I just commented this myself. The entire point of restoration is to keep your own ideas out of the process, and restore it as close to the original version as possible. I was so upset that they completely butchered the handle and original pieces, it was such a shame to turn what could have been a wonderful example of an antique knife into something that honestly doesn’t even look that good now. It’s a shame.

Sure ! This knife is a different knife, made with the metal of the previous one.

Restore means getting something that's broken into it's first shape. Meaning that's impossible. But restoration in the title means he restores it's ability to cut again.

kind of looks janky and half assed. you didn't line up the brass very well or make the blade look very uniform. its creative but you could have done better if you took more time
@Qgal5kap1236 жыл бұрын
It doesn't really take much more time doing it properly!

The blade was still pitted and had sanding marks all over the place the horrible casting of the brass and it still had pits and marks giant gaps in between the wood and brass just a nasty resto all around
