My favorite part? Is where the Preacher reveals. That the Hooker on the bus was his Mother. Because of the Preacher giving the Hooker his blood stained Bible before he died. She read it and accepted the Lord. Then turned around and shared it with her son. Who later grows up to be a preacher himself. 😪 Gives a whole new meaning to that "Train up a child". Such a rich and beautiful song, actually the whole CD is good.

that is what I was about to say
@gayledowden56302 жыл бұрын
No. No. The preacher was in no way related to her. Where on earth did you get they were related? All the preacher did was give the blood stained Bible to the prostitute before he died. His dying words, Can't you see the promised land? The whole point of the story is God's mysterious ways. That blood stained Bible changed her life. She read that Bible to her son who grew up to be a preacher. That was the message of the song. God works in people's lives for the good at the moment. Not everything is perfect in our eyes but it is in God's.

This is why COUNTRY music resonates across generations, because the lyrics make you FEEL, and if you want to be part of a great society, you have to be able to FEEL and that gets you to understand and love others. This song was one of his first live performances AFTER Randy Travis came back from his stroke.

Well it says that the preacher and hooker were searching for lost souls. The preacher is obviously looking for conversions. But it’s not clear whether the hooker is searching for lost souls as in lost souls to prey upon as clients, or, my favorite interpretation, *her own lost soul.* Which she obviously finds, thanks to the preacher’s speech as he’s dying.

I'm from Randy Travis's hometown of Marshville NC. His real name is Randy Traywick. My mom and her sister were babysitters for Randy and his brothers and sisters. My grandparents rented a home next door from Randy's dad Harold. When Harold and his wife went out mom and her sister would baby sit. Randy was bad to sneak off in the woods with his guitar when his parents got out of sight. It would worry my mom to death. They thought he'd run away. Randy was wild growing up.

This is a song that tells us that no one is beyond the reach of God. As Christians we spread the Word not knowing how it may impact somebody’s life for Him. The simple gesture of handing a woman of ill repute a Bible led her to raising a son who would go on to leading others to Christ.

I know you like songs that make you think. Rhiannon Giddens multi Grammy winner, MacArthur genius Grant honoree , (they called her the archaeologist of African American music) wrote a song called At The Purchasers Option that will make you think and make you cry. Her album Freedom Highway. (A Staples Singers song) is reflections on slavery and the black experience in America. She is indeed a genius with a heart and the skills to bring that alive , even to an old white guy like me. She is trying to remind the world that the banjo came from Africa.

Great viewing. I always like to hear what you have to say after a good song. Johnny Cash has a very unknown song. " Ballet of Ira Hayes." If you have seen the Iwo Jima monument then you have seen Ira. He was one of the flag raisers on Iwo Jima. He is the one standing directly under the flag furthest from where the pole is going in to the ground. Cash did this song on an album in the 1960s that I have not met many people that have heard it. The album is Bitter Tears, its all songs about American Natives. Semper FI.

The message is much deeper. The song says "Two of them were searching for lost souls". The two souls being the Preacher and the hooker. The rest of the mentioned in the song passed, they fulfilled their life. The priest handed his Bible to the hooker just before he passed. The hooker read the Bible and saved her soul. Her future baby grew to be the Preacher at the end of the song. Listen to the song again now and it hits different😥😥❤️
