thanks for the good video, I don't have to disassemble the panel with the radio, just fix the heating resistance.👍🧑‍🔧

My high speed fan would cut out when I hit a bump or turned a certain way. Thanks to this video, I only had to take off some of the front to stick in a long pointy metal pick to clean up the gunk on the fan speed connectors. Works well now.

The resistor for the Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, 3500,4000, appears to be identical and seems to work fine on my '94 Disco 300Tdi. It's not very expensive and is readily available. Chinese made...

100 quid; I'm glad I have a spare. I'll have to buy a pair of the magical pliers. The push buttons can become intermittent or stop working because of corrosion and/or dried out lubricant. Fortunately, they're repairable, it's the same with the fan speed switch.

"Half arsed" LandRover ideas are very common Mike but only on anything with the Green Oval, and all at no extra cost. the armature bearings in the fan motor are dry I'd be thinking. Lube them and the fan will run a lot easier with less electrical load.

@@marklong2248 never said I didn't like them, I've owned a number from a 1968 Series 2A a '77 RRC, '94 D1 to a '98 D1 but they were all a lot of work, and I can see why they had a bad reputation for reliability, it didn't effect my ownership too much because like Mike and many others I could fix them myself. I'm too old to be bothered now, I just want something to drive that isn't a 'hobby'.

Hello Mike, I have 2 pb with my heater unit, (on my 1989 RRC) first gear (low) doesn t works, and fan unit is more and more noisy. My vacuum switch for in/out is out of order too. Thé question is, since i found at thé scraps à disco 1 (killy), if it is useful to remove thé dash of thé disco to find useful parts for my RRC ?(from what I know, killy disco is 300tdi from 1997)
@BritannicaRestorations
@BritannicaRestorations 2 жыл бұрын
The 89 will be totally different - this is why we swapped the 1991 to a 1995 dash as it has a better heater and shares common part with the discovery It is not an easy job to do, but I have known owners put this disco dash in the early RR
@vincea1401

Ok, thanks for you response, I Nevers though about puting thé disco dash in the rrc, it was juste about thé vacuum switch, thé fan and thé fan switch witch have 3 gears in my car.

That springy bit of metal is a ‘fusible link’. I used to see these all the time on wirewound resistors in televisions back in the 70’s. You are meant to use high melting point solder to ‘reset’ them. My theory is that, over time the solder would ‘cook’ and go ‘dry joint’ and allow the spring to operate. Quite often you would see where someone had bent the springy arm to take the tension out of it, so it would not operate 😂
@harveysmith100
@harveysmith100 2 жыл бұрын
Good comment John. Why a high melting point rather than a low melting point solder?
@johnchetwynd3618
@johnchetwynd3618 2 жыл бұрын
@@harveysmith100 Because ‘normal’ solder would ‘give’ more quickly and you would be repeatedly re-soldering it. I guess that is why so many people bent the spring to reduce the tension 😂

What really bugs me with these RRC:s and DIscos is the quality (or lack of) the plastics. I mean I don't mind that they rust, that's mendable, but the plastics are (at least to me) non-repairable. And don't think it would have made that much difference to BL bottom line to have them a bit thicker and better.
@SalomaoFresco

My exact thoughts on the plastics... Replacement parts are scarce therefore expensive. Evem the 2nd hand ones, wich also are getting old and brittle.

@@BritannicaRestorations we had a Mercedes ML 320 - wonderful car in every aspect BUT the plastic! It's hot in the Middle East and even Mercedes-plastic dries out and gets brittle. The problem is also that everything has a "parking-position" so you can't put the flaps one way and leave them there! When you switch off the engine all flaps go into parking and when you switch the engine on again the electric position-motors try to put the flaps back - broken plastic linkages let them go "clack clack ..." with no end! On top of it everything is beyond reach - the whole dash has to come out, each one of the linkages are different, expensive and hard to get - Mercedes Germany only! So brittle plastic is not only a LR problem! The ML was eventually sold for a single broken plastic part!
