Just replaced my solenoid, i almost gave up twice, this was hard to do lying on my back, some things that helped me, little inspection mirror also i could not get a ratchet in or my fat hand so i had to use a 8mm deep socket and a 1/4 universal joint on some extensions to a ratchet, after removing the bolt the solenoid did not want to come out so i used a mini right angle pick to lever it away from the block, getting the bolt back in was not easy , i electrical taped it to the 8mm socket. That was some job. I orderd the solenoid from AliExpress about 107 GBP thats including shipping. All working good now.

Hello my friend great work I have a 2017 Range Rover Velar with a 2.0 diesel engine I have the same problem I ordered a new part Is it related to low engine oil? I will replace it Can I get it from the bottom or the top
@diydaly13 күн бұрын
Low oil can cause the issue , you’ll normally access from underneath

Had the same fault. I've got the new part now. my mechanic can do it in 10 days or so. Should the car be ok to drive till then? The engine management light comes on and goes away intermittently so I think the part is operating sometimes. Also I am losing coolant, about 200ml every day or so (sometimes will go a few days but seems to dump coolant randomly when in use... never when sitting. Obviously im topping it up). Pressure tested it cannot find a leak. 100% is not going in to the engine. Could the car be dumping coolant through this solenoid out of the car when in operation?

Hi, I have a fault code P25A9-13 - Permanent - Piston cooling oil control circuit/open on my 2016 LR Discovery Sport. The car has slight judder when stationary at idle and its smoking from the exhaust with. Would this part be causing the problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

All I had to remove the air con pump to get at the old one on a 2016 discovery sport 2 litre diesel, and took 3 hours

Great video! Will this also give "Engine oil level critically low" warning on the dash? Mine is intermittent. Also do the shields covering the Solenoid screw/clip on to the engine? Cheers
@diydaly Жыл бұрын
I dont think so mate, ive not come across that warning with this fault before.. they just sort of wedge into place, no clips 👍

I have the same issue and same critically low oil level warning, even though oil level is good. I read on another forum that it's an indication of solenoid fault. I'm going to change the solenoid but it's really difficult to reach when the vehicle is on the ground!

Have you sorted this Ian ? Ive got the same issue and have also read it flags the oil warning.@@ian001

@@stephenkerry5561 I had difficulty obtaining the solenoid (only 3 in stock in the whole of the UK!). Am collecting it on Friday and hopefully fitting it on Sunday. Time will tell! Update 19/03/2024 @stephenkerry5561 Having changed the solenoid (pig of a job to do 1 x 8mm bolt!) the engine feels much better and i haven't yet had another low oil level warning but there's still an intermittent P049B fault with the exhaust gas recirculation. Hopefully that will be fixed soon.

@@ian001sometimes when I change the automatic transmission from R to D I get the message "low engine oil" even though there is enough engine oil in it. I read it via the OBD2 system and got this error code P25A9 P25A9 Piston Cooling Oil Control - Circuit/Open have you fixed your error

Hi mate, any tips for getting the holding screw back in?
@diydalyАй бұрын
it can be a bit fiddly mate 😬

Thanks for the reply bud. I put some masking tape on the screw head and jammed a socket onto it which made life allot easier. Still tricky though as working blind 😅

Thank you for this and really good video. My 2016 Evoque running on low temperature had a thermostat changed, no joy! Do you think the low temperature fault could be related to this piston sensor?

Does this fault prevent the car from starting?
@ian0012 ай бұрын
@@Mechanic58 no, the car starts fine and nothing appears wrong until the critical oil level warning. I believe the fault led to my turbo burning out as it started to make a noise like a loose fan belt.

Will vary massively on the labour rate but I’d say around £200 area on average
