So, I've been having loss of power issues with my Evoque ever since I bought it. I thought I'd share my experience with you guys out there. Hopefully this is a common issue and I'm hoping we can lobby Land Rover with this. LR say it's a DPF issue and that I need to drive it more each day lol. I'm doing over 1k miles a month in this car.
If you have had a similar experience/problem leave a comment so that we can take it to LR. Evoque's, Freelander's and Disco Sports have this issue apparently.

Hi, I’ve the auto with 9 speed. Pulling away from stationary is a turbo lag issue, not DPF. I do however take the car for a 20 min highway drive every 6 months to trigger the auto DPF cleansing. I put in a bottle of Nulon diesel fuel system cleaner before pumping the tank full. This has avoided many of the issues that other Evoque owners have experienced.

Not sure what the outcome of this was but it generally does happen with a diesel if you're doing a lot of short journeys. It does sound like a DPF issue, if it's blocked the car goes into limp mode, you lose about half your power and it's slow to accelerate away. This happens to protect the engine from further damage. DPFs are there to stop exhaust contaminates leaving the exhaust pipe to reduce emissions, it's basically a filter that collects those contaminates so gets clogged up over time, especially if the car does a lot of short journeys which it could have done before you bought it. It's a system brough in by the EU to reduce emissions. You might have heard cars with Euro 5, Euro 6 etc. Euro 6 was the latest set of rules to cut emissions even further and came in around 2016, so earlier diesels you have had won't have been as badly affected. The problem is these things are not good for engines because engines need to breathe, the exhaust needs a good flow route for gases to escape and the DPF (and EGR valves) actually do the exact opposite and restrict the flow of those gases. What the EU have done is told manufacturers to fit these devices that are good for reducing emissions but are actually bad for cars. On the 2L Ingenium diesels it's a known issue due to the design of the exhaust, it's very cramped in the engine bay behind the engine. Sounds to me like the DPF and probably the EGR valves needed a good clean/de-coke. 100 miles a month is an average of 33 a day, not necessarily a lot so it depends how much of that is town driving and if you're using start-stop, both of which will clog up the car far, far quicker than if you're doing motorway driving or generally non-stop on a roads or country lanes.

This happened to my Hyundai, it kept flagging that the egr valve was the fault but i changed it and it made my car worse. What happened eventually was that they had to clean the inlet manifold of all the soot cus it was clogging up the egr valve. What the garage told me is that i should use a dpf cleaner after every 3 times i fill with gas and occasionally just drive the car fast to clean out the system cus the soot really builds up. Diesel cars really build up soot especially if you're always making short driving trips at lower speeds.

I’ve had EXACTLY the same issue. (See 2:52 for what it is) Mine was worse in the summer. No fault codes! Was no power for 3 or 4 seconds when changing from 3rd to 1st or 2nd to 2st or 2nd to 3rd. Especially when pulling away from junctions at between 1,500 to 1,900 rpm (bloody scary pressing the accelerator and nothing happens!!) Finally I changed the EGR valve and did an Air Path update about 4 months ago and it’s 99% better. It still wants to hesitate occasionally but doesn’t. But I’ve read on Forums the loss of power issue returns after a while. Land Rover know all about this. They are out right LYING. Has nothing to do with DPF!! It’s more of a software problem in my view.
@DownShiftThrottle
@DownShiftThrottle 5 жыл бұрын
I had the air flow path set up re calibrated about 4 times. It worked absolutely fine for about 2 weeks and the issue came back. I had very similar symptoms on our 2017 320d at 20k miles. Hesitation when pulling away. EGR valve was diagnosed and changed without any issue or excuses.

I'm getting exact same problem, may not happen for a few days.. Very intermittent problem, no power for 3-4 seconds usually when pulling away. Mines auto dynamic 2014 2.2 sd4. There is a code 'dpf regeneration incomplete' tried all the advice for active/passive regen however problem still occurring randomly. Thinking about deleting dpf and remap. Cleaning option I feel will be temp fix. What actually is this airpath update and how much did it cost? Called land rover didn't know what I was on about. Thanks In Advance
@DownShiftThrottle
@DownShiftThrottle 5 жыл бұрын
@@luker8648 air path set up is just reconfiguring the sensors.....the issue is definitely with the EGR valve and or the EGR cooler. LR service is pretty rubbish they wont care. It feels like a blockage of air when it happens right? Just change the EGR valve and see how you get on with it. Might cost you like £250 or so but most likely that will he the issue as I've had a similar issue with my 2017 BMW 320d. Changed under warranty no quibbles and no issues since!

@@DownShiftThrottle I suppose it could be described as that. I can try floor it but nothing for like 3 seconds, similar to you it has got me in a few sticky situations at T junction and roundabouts, untill power decides to come back on its own. EGR valve a new potential issue then.. I have had an hour hydrogen cleaning cycle through the engine which I belive should have cleared EGR valve (I am no mechanic) My car actually has a fault code P24A2 dpf regen incomplete, so I've not yet been able to rule this out. Car has done 69k lot of motorway driving so baffled how dpf could be blocked. I'm wondering if the dpf delete and remap would also reconfigure the airpath systems then? Have you/did you ever manage to get your issue resolved on the range rover? Apologies about the questions it's just nice to know someone that has the same problem as I've been getting no where.

I dont know if Im too late to the party but it could be the DPF related. Since the Governemnet pass on strict emission rules - the mandatory DPF has been pain in the ass for lots of Diesel Engines including manufacturers like Toyotas. There is however an option to DPF delete by some garages which is kind of controversial on whether it is legal/illegal. But the claim is that those garages promises you better gas mileaage, lower emission and more power if you have them deleted. So I dont think there is anything illegal about it if the purpose is for lower emission.
@severnsea
@severnsea Ай бұрын
No controversy at all; it's illegal and an MOT fail in the UK. Yes, the purpose is to reduce emissions so if you delete (remove) it then you've taken away the device that was put there to reduce emissions, which is why it's illegal to do so. The problem is they work by blocking the flow of the exhaust gases and trapping the waste materials, so they're not good for the engine as those gases need to flow, so yes, you will get more power and probably better MPG (not lower emissions though, they will go up and you'll fail the MOT anyway) if you delete/remove it. t's not the manufacturers' fault, it's the EU who have brought in legislation that says you have to have these fitted to clean up the air, which they do, but they're not good for the engine which will clog up very quickly if you do a lot of short journeys. Same applies to EGR valves.

Sounds like the same problem as I had, it was the turbo!!, it was 8 months old, had a new egr valve because the car kept making a chuffing noise, I had new anti roll bar rubbers new leather seat cover replacement roof lining, windscreen, roof sprayed on top corners where black windscreen covers meet the roof, & more rattles than u can imagine. Every time they tried to fix one I ended up with more than I started, Stratstones r a pile of crap & so is landrover customer service. To top it all off the unavailing of the car was missed in the showroom as they were running late & the car was outside when I arrived, that's no all when the salesman said don't look @ it, is yours, I replied it's not ours the registrations not what we chose!! He'd only registered it with a different number which now didn't match one of my other cars, to late to change so we had to mess about changing the insurance so we could take it away, I wish I had left it there now. The car has now gone & I am relived as I didn't know what was going to go wrong next. I understand I may have had a bad one but it's nice to warn others, hope this helps!!

Agreed, it’s really not a lie. I’m a JLR tech in a London Dealership and I feel sorry for the service advisors that have to say that to customers’ faces. When we look at the flight recorders in cars, they’re not driven how they are ‘engineered’ to be. Not the customers fault, you can’t sell a car and tell them how to drive it, cars should be able to just pop to the shops. They want to produce an engine that meets Euro 6 emission standards by putting a DPF and two EGR systems in, creating ludicrous back pressure and yet still powerful enough to pull an SUV. Can’t happen reliably. Hence why I replace engines all day! Hopefully after closer scrutiny the Ingenium engine will get there one day!

All I can go by is this was my 4th diesel Eu6 engine with a DPF and EGR and my journey and mileage hadn't changed. It was in the dealer for 6 weeks and Land Rover was initially fighting me saying it was something I did to cause it, like not maintaining it. Which is completely not true. Had to get a lawyer. The car was under full warranty still. They wound up replacing the entire engine. It cost Land Rover corporate $15k in repairs, as that’s what the dealer was reimbursed by them.

So here's my story, the problems aren't "as bad" or catastrophic as some... But troubling none the less. I bought a 2019 RR evoque hse dynamic (yes in Canada here, so it's not the new facelift one) anyhow... On day of pick up, I had missing interior (yes you read that correctly) and a cracked screen on the infotainment system. They got the missing interior resolved on the spot, had to come back when new screen arrived. Go back to get screen replaced, the service team dinged up the entire interior of the vehicle and left broken glass from from screen being replaced in the vehicle. Had to again turn around take it back and say wtf is this. Had to order new interior come back and get it replaced. So within a weeks time of owning the vehicle it was in the service dept 3 times!!!!! Anyhow... Since than everything seemed to be fine... Untill a few weeks back one morning turned on the vehicle to have a check engine light and back up camera not working (simultaneously) couple days later on start up CEL was off and camera worked... Fast forward a few weeks after that... One morning same deal, turn it on check engine light on and back up camera not working! Going to take the car in Monday (in which I'm dreading this morons doing work on the car that dinged it up last time) now funny part is after calling my service guy (nice guy) he assured me the CEL and reverse camera do not coincide, and yes that would be strange I thought the first time it happened that a reverse camera would set off the CEL.. But after the 2nd time and both happening at the exact same time... Highly doubt that strange occurance is a coincidence. Anyhow, although not as horrible as some stories Ive heard. After this scheduled Appt and possible fix of back up camera, which by the way as I informed the service guy, what's the point of having it replaced as I told him from what I've been reading this has been a problem for years... ultimately replacing a defective camera.... With the exact same defective damn camera. But as I said after this service Appt. Any other issue to follow I will already of had enough and be returning the vehicle and moving on... Nice cars but a real shame on this type of nonsense of reliability. And where are all the damn recalls? How can a company like this have the same issues especially on something like a camera for so many years. Anywaus thought I'd share my lovely experience.

I call out the BMW assist and they diagnosed the issue and replaced the EGR valve on my drive! The underlying issue I had with the Evoque now seems exactly the same as what I've experienced in the Evoque yet Land Rover couldn't or would not diagnose it. @@abqsky5338 Just had the turbo go on mine and parts of it have gone into the engine. It's a 2016 with 61k on the clock and Land Rover aren't that bothered about helping. Got finance on the car so it's sat there and I can't use it. Spoke to a few Land Rover specialists and they seem to think about £15k for a new engine and there's a 12 month waiting list due to high demand. Did you make any progress with your problem?

That is hilarious, what the dealer told you about having to drive it at x mph for x number of miles everyday! But... it really doesn't surprise me. You should hear some of the stuff people have been told by the dealers over here. I actually feel sorry for the employees, there's clearly nothing left they can do. The only real solution is to re-engineer the car, which they obviously can't do, so all they have left is to come up with lame excuses for all the problems that plague Land Rovers of every model and vintage. The best way I've heard a Land Rover described is: They're like strippers... great to look at, but wouldn't want to take one home with me.

I bought myself second hand RR Évoque 2014 automatic back in May this year but picked it up in June because I had to travel for my father’s funeral. Few weeks after picking it u, I noticed some strange things such as : When I stop at a junction or traffic light, the steering wheel makes a funny noise The tailgate makes a noise when opening or closing Five weeks later, I got the adaptive dynamic fault appearing on my dashboard. I called the dealer, explained to them and they find a RR specialist near me as they’re far in Winchester and I live in Manchester. Took the car for diagnostic and was told that that the problem is the Shock absorber which is causing the car the feel different. Now the dealer doesn’t want to pay for the labour but offered to pay for the diagnostic and the parts out of goodwill and telling me that I didn’t take the extended warranty which cost around £500 and that this problem isn’t covered under the 12 months warranty they’re gave me when I picked the car. I don’t know what to do as I just bought the car. Please I need some advice. Thanks for the video.
