@Gtostreetmissile6 ай бұрын
@antuandunte1238 all year models are fine. If you get 2014 and up wich if i remember correctly is L405 you need to do a coolant pipe upgrade to aluminum cost about 50 bucks. Anything older than that just need to change your oil regularly. Do the timing chains over 100k miles on any new car not just rovers it only takes 4 hours. Put a lower thermostat if you can too all new cars run too hot from factory

@@antuandunte1238 As a UK mechanic I have owned most, but stay away from the ingenium 2.0 engines. In the Evoque the Ford 2.2 engine is very reliable. The bigger later Range Rovers are Ok but some major jobs need the body off which is not a great design.

@@antuandunte1238 Look at the tyres. If they have bought cheap tyres you can guarantee they will have used the cheapest oil, the cheapest fuel and so on, if they bothered to get it serviced at all. For those who are considering a RR. Coming up on 8 years ago I bought a 2007 RR HSE 4.4L. Other than brakes , oil and tires, ive had the heater core go and this past weekend installed new cats. Thats it. I paid $9800 for it w/77K original miles. It now has 101,200ish.. I dont drive a lot , obviously. But , if you find a good deal on an 06-09 HSE (none supercharged) one and can either do the work yourself or have a close friend friend who can, I say go for it . Buy it.. Ford owned RR during those years , heck man the coil packs literally say Ford Motor company on them. Yes they have sensors for sensors and thats a pita but mine has been (knocks furiously on wood) very reliable, hasnt left me stranded and as someone who has 3 disc herniations a fractured vertebrae and arthritis throughout mine spine, it is like no other truck to ride in. As well as it is a tank with a real frame , basically zero blindspots while driving. I plan on driving it until it turns to dust.

I have a 2017. Got it at 18k used during the pandemic. At 25K miles, the front brakes went out and all tires were bald. At 30k miles the rear brakes went out. At 45k miles the Down pipe on the turbo cracked, blowing exhaust fumes into the cabin. (Warranty replaced within 50k. Phew, got lucky) I took the ride into a machine car wash, and the side panels broke off! It was a plastic two piece melted together. At 60k miles, I can hear the CV axle making noise. At 70k miles, I have oil being pushed back into the turbo. Over time, if you don’t spray down the back engine compartment from the car wash, you will smell burnt oil inside the cabin. I also replaced the rear brakes again. Now at 85k miles and owned the car for 2 years, I have yet to replace the CV axle and now when driving above 30mph, I hear a LOUD buzzing/vibration noise. Land Rover sucks and I am stuck with this POS.

I never owned a Range Rover but I did own a 2000 Land Rover for nearly 19 years. In that time the only major repair was when the head gasket blew and I didn't know it until the engine started to run awful. I bought a warranty as well and that payed for the repair. I had a 1999 Discovery Series 1 w a huge solid steel brush guard and rear light guards, huge winch, thing was a monster. I bought it when I moved to Denver when my girlfriend's Jeep Grand Cherokee started having transmission and rear diff problems. I got stuck trying to turn around on a secluded private mountain property - it turned out to be some cultish church - and had to winch to avoid going into a crevasse. Six people from the cult (I don't know what else to call them, they wore these weird robes and slippers even in the freezing Denver snow storms) came out and helped me, and after we finished, they told me to go away and never come back again. But yeah in Denver and other mountainous areas the discoverys were (still are?) almost mandatory. Lots of people drove them out there and they did have scratches , brush guards, lift kits etc

I absolutely love your videos but need to kinda disagree with you on this one. I had multiple Range Rovers and they were actually caused almost no problems. There are some engines and models to avoid that's correct which is also the case with other car brands. I think the problems is, as you said these cars are over-engineered products. After their warranty, people do not care about replacing the parts in a correct manner. One malfunctioning piece starts to affect others as they are all connected to each other. Thus, the cars get worse over time because of misuse actually.

I have the same evoque and it has 191000 km on the clock. To be honest, the engine is still in very good shape (I did changed the VVT cam gear), the AT is in good shape. The little 2.0 turbo engine is quite good and I am surprised and had to admit that Ford has what it takes to stay on top of the game. That car is 2013 and Ford could get almost 250HP out of a 2.0 engine. That is something.

I've got a 10 year old Evoque. It's never broken down on me. As someone has mention here, the error codes are most like due to an old battery and lack of voltage in the car triggering them.

RRs get a lot of heat for maint issues. I think manageable if you can DIY and predict the known fail points. I have a 2016 RRS L494 TDV6. Has a Ford Lion diesel engine and a ZF transmission. I say research the failure points on the forms and stay ahead of any disasters. If you can manage the failures with mitigation the ride reward is great. I'm at 78k miles now and the next expected hurdle is the timing belt replacement. Wish me luck.

I wished Toyota would have bought them from Ford... Not Tata... I have daily driven 5 Land Rovers in the 12 years of having my license lol. One was my mother's Range Rover when I was 16. The other I bought myself starting a decade ago. First a Discovery, then Range Rover Sport, then my current Range Rover, as well as trying a new Defender for a year as my recreation/off road use vehicle. I loved every one but the Disco. I was very biased being used to Range Rover lol, so didn't keep it long. The Defender was great fun! My only issue was that one was the independent suspension was a handicap on our very technical trails, here in rugged British Columbia! It was like wheeling in a big sedan, or crossover. I love the brand, but i think we need laws to ensure a certain level of reliability in something that creates so much waste, once it is no good anymore

I've had an 07 RR HSE 4.4L for coming up on 8 years, got it with 77K original miles for $9800 haha couldn't pass it up. Out side of maintenance, tires ,brakes and oil , I've had to fix heater core and just yesterday new catalytic converters. That's it. Knocks very hard on wood , no issues , very reliable and extremely comfortable. I will drive it til it turns to dust. I think maybe because Ford owned them from 04 to 2012 ( I think that's the years) it makes it easier to work on. Heck the coil packs actually say Ford Motor company on them!

@@dtcdtc8328 lmaoo yes they are reliable if you know what you are doing and their reputation is only a myth, like any luxury car there are more things that could go bad or wear out. Range Rovers are underrated in my opinion they offer so much that others can’t match. And yes when ford owned them it was at their peak because my 2012 evoque has a ford engine its been perfect so far. I also own, fully paid with cash, a 2018 sport autobiography and its been amazing so far with nothing wrong. Knocks on wood, i got lucky and with the right care they can be amazing cars.

Always wanted one of those. I heard they had removable panels in the floor to allow you to change u-joints from inside the vehicle. Too bad Land Rover got bought up by some big company and went the luxury route instead of staying a utility vehicle.

I'm an elec. tech. Usually when you have dozens of codes like that it's communications issues. It's not actually what the codes say. Perhaps one of the many computers is bad. Or a communication cable. I've seen these many times. I work on industrial machinery. Some of our machinery have many machines combined for one operation. If any one of those machines' computers are bad or even if you turn on the machinery in the incorrect order, you get a screen with dozens of fault codes. One bad communication cable will throw many faults.

Usually when you get a lot of fault codes on these it's because of a low battery.

The new electric power steering wheels on the newer cars seem require constant little adjustments when driving on freeway, at least it's what I experience with my newer Honda and Acura. The older Hondas with hydraulic power steering wheel worked perfectly on freeway, which made for very relax long distant drives. My question is are there any newer cars that don't have that problem?

Hearing your joke about the English and electricity made me laugh. I had a '62 MG (the boxy one, not the cool convertible) that had REVERSE POLARITY! The body of the car was electrified. How ridiculous is that? When I put in a custom stereo, I had to create a cardboard box to house it in to prevent it from shorting if the stereo body touched any metal on the car.

I have owned 4 Landrovers / Range Rovers over the last 25 years. A Disco, Range Rover Sport, LR3 and currently own a 2016 LR4 HSE. If you follow the Maintenance schedule, they are very reliable. The problem is most people do the Maintenance on the cheap. You will have problems. Are they fairly expensive to maintain correctly? Yes. They are not a car for every one. But the driving experience is special. I put 183,000 miles on my LR3 an I currently have 52,000 on my 2016 LR4 HSE. Runs like a dream. Th LR-4 HSE is the best series Landrover ever produced. Go anywhere under the worst conditions and get you to your destination in style, comfort and safely. I live New England and in winter the weather can be brutal. Piece of cake in a Land Rover.

Kim, First find a good mechanic that knows how to work on Land Rovers. Change the oil every 5 to 6000 miles, no matter what the manual says. This is crucial and it’s worth the extra money. Follow the manual maintenance guide religiously. The 2016 LR four series is the best Land Rover series ever made in my opinion. If you’re looking at one with over 60,000 miles make sure mechanic goes over it before you buy it. I follow the maintenance manual and you’ll save yourself a lot of heartache. Good luck.

Absolutely spot on. The biggest problem is people buy them used, realise they can't afford to run them so skimp on servicing and maintenance. See it all the time. Look at the tyres, if they have put cheap tyres on I guarantee they will have cheaped out on everything else. Guys, if you're going to buy a used one think about it; nice to own but they are NOT cheap to run. If you can't afford to maintain one when new, you can't afford to maintain a used one.
