ZF recommend for the 8ap box an oil change every 50,000miles or 8 years.
@bazg34262 жыл бұрын
I did a gearbox oil change, only manager to get 4.5l out and 4.6l in so maybe a couple of changes might get closer to changing the oil. Also the later (2016) model has a shield that runs under the gearbox and the bump stop seen int his video at 34s is at a different angle. That has to be removed before you can twist (through 90 degrees) the sump away from the car. Reverse procedure for getting the new one in. Its very tight. At 50k miles the oil was brown replaced with new ZF8 oil (green).

Great video! Question: when you get the oil up to 45 degrees and you top it off and it starts coming out of the fill hole with the engine running... do you wait until it stops coming out before you put the plug back in? Or, do you do it while it is dripping out? Thanks for the upload and graphics.

How much oil do you need to complete change the transmissions oil?
@Danny-jv7lg Жыл бұрын
Raymie, do you think it’s ok to just do the change without the flush? I’m finding it difficult to get an Indy under £500 to do the job?
@RaymiesGarage Жыл бұрын
IMO yes, I am aware I may not have got all the oil out, but intend to change the oil every couple of years as I can get the transmission oil reasonably cheep, I havent changed the oil since this video and the transmission has had no issues

@@RaymiesGarage good stuff mate, I was going to just do it myself as fed up with the cost of JLR and Indy garages. If I change it every few years like you say it should all refresh after a couple of cycles.

Hi mate, thankyou for the videos Unfortunately i am new at car maintainence, really only attending to engine oil change, transfer case and front and rear differentials, brake fluid flush, brake pad changes and basic filter changes to date. All my previous attempts have been on Toyota 150 series, hilux or Rav 4, so first time on an expensive car (however the dealer wants $2,900 AUD (around 1800 pounds at todays rate) to do the basic 154,000km service ( 72months) PLUS $1800 for a gearbox service (1000pounds) Ive just picked myself up a 2016 L405 SDV8 (same as yours) with only 8,000miles on it (12months ago, now its got 17,000miles) and i am considering a gear box oil and filter change. Given it had only done 8,000miles in 7years, and i do not know the history (?could of been a repossession owned by someone who drove it really hard). what are your thoughts on me attempting this? Something that you would recommend doing? I am all for preventative maintenance, but is it to early and ill be wasting money? Also, that pump you use to add the fluid, what is that! so good! my manual one i have for the transfer case and diff's is so messy, and the tip wont stay in without being held! and being manual, with heavy oil ,take a lot of effort! Worth buying for the occassional job? or to expensive Thanks mate!
@RaymiesGarage2 жыл бұрын
Its fairly stright forward to do the transmission oil and filter change, althow you may not get all the oil out due the torque convertor holding on to some. heres the link to the oil filler, but you will need a compressor to operate it www.machinemart.co.uk/p/draper-23248-pneumatic-fluid-extractor-dispens/
@mikegyde70712 жыл бұрын
@Raymies Garage thanks so much for the reply! Does the torque converter need to be emptied or is the little bit it holds ok?

I have the same car. Any special electronic tools needed to run the box after refill? Did you manage to flush the torque converter? Thanks for the video.
@RaymiesGarage3 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, Once we filled the box we started the car and engaged all the gears a couple of times. We waited till the transmission oil temp was 45c then topped up the oil whilst the car was running. The only electronic tool we used was to measure the transmission oil temp. Since changing the transmission oil in July the car has run smoothly without any issues . No We never managed to flush the torque converter which I believe has around a litre of oil in it. My intention to to change the oil annually.
@bazg34262 жыл бұрын
@@RaymiesGarage I think it may be better to do a oil change before dropping the old sump. Run for a week or so and then do the oil and sump change. Just dropping the sump and changing the oil seems to leave well above 1l of old oil in there. It is a fairly simple task so maybe every 30k miles oil change would be prudent.

@RaymiesGarage3 жыл бұрын
According to LR Service scheduled for the L405 the transmission oil and filter should be changed at 160,00 miles, (or 120 months) however I prefer to be a bit more proactive with lubrication and oil changes on my cars.
