Worked on a Kubota zero turn once, had metal in the hydraulics. Gear reduction case also served as fluid reservoir. Genius engineers put the filter on the return circuit. Bearing went bad in reduction case, flooded the pumps and motors with metal. $6500 later the $18k mower was fixed. Nearly a full week of labor to tear apart and clean every nook and cranny.
@ngnmech18 күн бұрын
The thing is most people don't understand how the hydrostat works on Z turn mowers. The charge pump gets oil from the reservoir which is pumped into the hydrostat main pump at about 60 psi. The main pump increases that pressure to around 2200 psi. What people don't understand is it is a closed loop of oil between the pump and the drive motor. So the only oil that gets filtered is the oil lost by the pump before being returned to the reservoir. So failure of the wheel motor will cause pump failure because it will keep recirculating between the pump and drive motor, or in your case another item fails that allows contamination of what should be clean oil.
@Nudnik117 күн бұрын
That happens on most heavy equipment. Excavator pump fail fill machine with metal chips. Pump cost $25,000+ on larger machines plus takes days to flush chips out. Usually you can't get all of it and some gets in computer control hydraulic valves and motors etc . We test hydraulic fluid alot for metal iron Bronze etc. Most machines has return filters and suction screens in tank which don't stop fine chips .

Hey Dave, the number one problem with ULSD is fuel oxidation and air contamination in the ULSD. It is the fuel oxidation and air contamination in the ULSD that is the primary causal mechanism for poor lubricity in the diesel fuel. Solubilized oxygen, dissolved, entrained and entrapped air in the ULSD/diesel fuel reduce the load bearing capacity of the fluid fuel itself. Hence poor diesel fuel lubricity

@paulwhite154215 күн бұрын
My 2.7 tdv6 RRS needed a new Siemens HPFP after 320,000km and regular servicing at JLR, it is the solenoid inside that type of pump that fails, belt driven. Threw up codes and live data when cranking, no start. Couldn’t fault JLR repair cost AUD$3800 still have the car with 400,000km. Wouldn’t buy the newer diesels if that’s progress. No DPF, no Euro 6 emissions to deal with. No crank issues as I use 5w40 oil must have a good one. Had it 14 years.

Stupid High pressure pumps to save miniscule amounts of fuel over port injection, (and carbs for that matter) just to meet EPA mandates! Plus your intake tract doesn't wash either nice! Vehicle reliability and reasonable maintenance cost is now the last consideration in new vehicle design for sure.
@chrispy104k18 күн бұрын
I don't think I have ever seen a port injection diesel but yes, gas engines used to until more recently. I understand that direct injection on gas engines results in greater fuel economy but the deposits in the intake ports and back of the valves is a right pain. It can be mitigated by using products that dissolve those deposits each time the vehicle is serviced. Subaru provide an upper cylinder/intake cleaner you spray into the intake manifold at each service. "SA459 is the only upper engine cleaning product that has been tested and approved by the factory to be used in Subaru vehicles." Works well.

4:27 That looks to be an Insane Diesel oil bypass system and not so much a 'catch can' exactly. This is pulling 10% of the oil out at 1-2 gpm and sending through very tight micron oil filter down to 1 micron filtering to improve the oils life by cleaning it, extend life cycle of it and engine in return! Oil catch can is totally different product used to clean out the oil vapors coming out of crankcase usually before sending back into the turbo coating ut with dirty oil causing issues.

That's a good engine. Should do 500,000 km with proper service. New front belt every 160,000 km Front covers come off in about an hour. New pump belt every 2 front belts. Change oil every 10 to 12,000 miles. Easier to drop engine to replace the h/p pump. Low pressure in tank pumps only make 4 to 6 psi on the early Gen 1 engines, not sure on these Gen 2s In reality, this isn't a Range Rover fault, it's either fuel quality fault or a pump manufacturing fault. In 30 years of Range Rover servicing I've never had to replace a high pressure pump on a v6 Land Rover TDi. That's most probably a fuel quality issue.

@johndarby4503 I understand why you'd say that. The early Gen 1 2.7 and 3.0 could do 15 K km, which is I suppose 9 k miles. At that we see 400, 00 km plus. The later gen 3 factory dash computer gives 22 000 km, which is about 15k miles. You need to use the low saps oil but I'd agree that less often, say 8000 miles or 15 k kms works be better.

Normally here in the uk we start with codes that are stored on ECM😂. Even a DPF temperature sensor can shut the system down reporting wrong values and making the car think is catching fire 😂. Having the car running with Eazy start air mass sensor must be disconnect as ECU can’t see any air flow. There for now fuel to be provided. Grate engineers and technicians without a doubt in your admirable workshop.
