Evening,Sir. And Happy 4th of July 2020.. Just catching up on some old videos and thinking what an honor it is to live in a country. That I can be entertained by You, John and your range, several times a week.I Look forward to Sunday services with you in the morning. And thanks for all you guys do for our sport and all the wisdom. and safety tips you pass along with every video.I try to turn every kid that goes to my hunting property to shoot during the off hunting season with my kid and I, to your vids. I can only stress safety and offer acceptance and an introduction to shooting sports to kids that otherwise might never get a chance to watch a 2 liter explode. But you,Sir are a natural born teacher about all things good in life. Ive watched them watch your vids and they dont even realize that they are learning things that are valuable lessons on and off the range. Thanks again,Sir.

@babodean , Usually. If they are lying down during heavy rain, they get dirty or muddy sometimes. I hate to spray paint over dirt, even on a traget that is just going to get shot. :-) It goes against everything I've ever learned about painting to paint dirt.

Yes, the county road is not that far away. We are generally shooting in the opposite direction, of course.

It does, but normally it's in the light jacket or heavy shirt range of temperature.

@trumpetdood , I usually spray them the same color they were. Lately, since I started making videos, I've changed the color during the summer so that they still show up. The shots don't damage the steel, just the paint.

Actually lead is easier on the barrel than jacketed bullets. Less wear. I used to cast some bullets, but I don't do much of that anymore. I might do some when I retire.

I simply love your Range. I made my 1st 50 yard Target Stand of 1x4 inch oak framing with a 1/4" plywood board to hold my 12 paper Targets. I love to put 60 bullets into 12 Cloverleaves. One foot behind it I have a piece of 3/8" Steel Plate to stop the bullets. After 2 weeks of shooting, the bullet fragments tore-up the Oak Frames. I made new frames from some angle iron of old Bed Rails. I've been using it for 3 years now.

Thank you for the tour and the information on the thickness of the steel. I bet that railroad tie wall did take some effort. I built a retaining wall once it's amazing at how much work goes into them I had a big hammer drill I used retaining wall nails and 24 inch pieces of rebar and a good old sledgehammer. I was 19 then would hate to do it now.

Thanks for the ideas. I just finished building my range and getting it set up now. I always wondered how big your gong was. You’ve got an awesome range I have to say. I’ve been getting most of my steel made for me locally. It helps me out as well as helping them. Plus they’ll make it for me cheaper than a professional place. 😀

It was not easy. I did pack a 4" 629, thinking some disobedient animal target would need a dose of lead; however, we decided that we wouldn't worry wtih keeping up with ear protection and such on this little hike. Especially since we knew it would go pretty long.

I hope to someday have enough land and money to set up a range like yours. Living near DC it's nearly impossible to acquire that much land, but someday I hope to move out to the sticks, and have my own range. I especially like when you "go hunting". Seeing you knock over the little farm animal targets always makes me smile. Thanks for giving us a tour, and thank you for all the hours of educational entertainment you've provided! I have a comment about range safety. Years ago when my children were young, we heard shots nearby. There were cracking sounds through the woods as bullets hit tree limbs before slamming into the siding on my house. I yelled at the children to, "Get inside, quick!" Children are slow to respond in emergencies. I was in panic mode 'til they were inside. I then quickly (and safely) drove my pickup truck toward the sound of the shooting nearby. A shooter was using tin can targets near the top of a dirt mound less than 1/4 mile from the house. I shouted at him, "Hey! You're shooting at my house. My children were in the yard playing!" He turned so pale I thought he would faint as he nervously asked, "I didn't hit anybody, did I?" I told him no one was harmed except my house. I let him know about the siding. Most of all I felt I needed to get the man to calm down so he didn't have heart failure or something. Of course he was VERY apologetic. He said, "I thought the dirt mound would stop the bullets. He was shooting .44 mag. with very hot loads, so here's a tip for you shooters out there. PAY ATTENTION TO hickok45! The man KNOWS gun safety. Follow his tips. Make sure your range is safe and that you have plenty of stopping power between your direction of fire and any nearby structures. My unfortunate neighbor-shooter was placing his targets near the top of a dirt mound. His high power loads were apparently traveling through the thin band of dirt near the top of the mound, through the sparse trees, an all the way to my property before stopping. I'll bet Mr. Hickok45 might have a thing or two to say about this if he sees my post..

Better NOT be anybody just walking around my property! You see what happens to the zombies that wander in. Well, you also have to remember, one NEVER takes a shot unless he knows where the bullet is going to strike. I don't have people on my property, but even if that were to happen, I'm not going to shoot at him.

This was a good video. I had been wanting a close-up glimpse of the targets on your range for a while. It'd be funny if instead of the standard barnyard animal steel targets, you had cutouts of like, monkeys or turtles or school children with their lunch boxes. You know, just oddball stuff. "Okay, now I'm going to lob a shot at the 80-yard gardener." *BANG!* *...DING!*

When I attended the 2nd Infantry Division sniper school (Korea) in 1986, (I was assigned to the JSA) We had barrels filled about 30" deep with concrete, a steel post in the middle and a 12"x 12"x 1" plate welded to it, painted black We shot at them about 800 meters (2625ft.)out.The force of the bullet twisted the poles like 90 degrees, that's a lot of force. We used the M14 nm. (National Match) with nm bullets. Thats all I got to say about that. :-). Never seen a guy who didn't want to say their age, I thought guys didn't care. 1986 has been a while, I'm 50

@QvalisArtifexPereo Im from norway. In order to trespass, you gotta know your tresspassing. A large property might confuse ya. A bullet will not stop at the border of the property. There for one can not, and should not, be allowed to do all that one want, just because its YOUR property. Having said that, dosnt mean HK45 range is bad. Its wise to always have a critical mind.
