PX Ford Ranger and Mazda BT50 EGR cooler replacement. In this video we show you how to diagnose a faulty leaking EGR cooler on a ford ranger PX or Mazda BT50. This video is made by a professional mechanic in the workshop, showing how this can be done easily without removing the gearbox or transmission.

Seen your video on EGR cooler replacement .There is even a more easier way to carry out this repair I am ford tech and the trick is to remove both wiper arms,the plastic cowling held in by plastic clips just need a flat blade screw driver for these clips .Once top cowling is removed go for the metal plate that holds the wiper motor assembly remove all the 10mm bolts disconnect the wiring loom to the wiper motor note if you have fender indicators cut the wire which goes to right side only will need re-soldering when refitting.Should give you so so much more room to get all the bolts that hold both the EGR and cooler.I split the EGR away from the cooler to make it easy to remove cooler as you did on the left side And for more excess remove the 4 torx bolts that secure the EGR motor I believe the bolts a E25 or E30 1/4 drive ratchet,extension bar. or try a torx Allen key. This method applies to both BT50,Ford Ranger 3.2 auto or manual 2WD or 4wd.This method gives greater access and the whole job should take between 2 to 3 hours.

I have one on my hoist at work and I was looking at it today saying how the fuck. But this makes total sense thank god I came across this comment. Just to review so I can get it done fast as possible for the customer, - Wipers off - Window cowl panel off - Wiper motor off - Is cutting the indicator wires a necessity for removing everything? - split valve from cooler and remove then remove cooler. Does this work the same ways for the auto 3.2 that has the metal pipe that is held to the bottom bolt of the egr valve? Also, will the px3’s go into limp mode after the egr is blanked or do they just display an engine light. Cheers in advance mate this comments a massive time saver

Did this last week, was not fun. I found it easier with the fuel filter and bracket out of the way, takes ten minutes but more room to see and move. The three bolts on the exhaust manifold end are a nightmare when you don't have a hoist to come from underneath. I ended up using three long thin bolts (just smaller than the ID of the thread) which were easier to slide through and line the EGR cooler up with the exhaust manifold. With two of those in to line up the holes threading a bolt in the other hole was easy, well easier anyway. The two bolts from the cooler to EGR are easy enough because you can see them from underneath, but the bolt holding the cooler to the back of the head is blind from underneath (again, no hoist so harder on your back). Needed a friend for this, one underneath pushes the extension and uni joint up, one standing then puts it onto the bolt, I just couldn't get this on my own.

Good effort getting it done without a hoist. It's a tricky spot, but better doing it this way than removing the whole transmission like a lot of people do.

My Ranger is a 2017 model, I've been told that the EGR cooler cannot be changed in the way you have shown for a later model PX3. Is this correct?

Should blank the cooler off and bypass the hoses. That's what I will be doing. Stop all that horrible carbon getting in the intake.

It may have been easier just to blank the cooler off and retune the EGR closed.
@gettingitdone1
@gettingitdone1 Жыл бұрын
You'd have to way up the different costs etc. You'd also need to bypass the cooler with the coolant lines. And do an EGR delete. It could easily be just as, if not more complicated than replacing the cooler. We are in a professional workshop though, so we prefer do things properly.

Many thanks for the video, im planning on having the egr cooler replaced on my everest 3.2 as it is nearing 90k kms. Is it recommended to also replace the egr valve when doing this or just the cooler?
@gettingitdone1
@gettingitdone1 Ай бұрын
Normally we would only replace the valve if it was faulting. However, EGR valves can often give trouble, so if it's a high mileage vehicle you might consider doing it while you're there.

@@gettingitdone1 Appreciate the answer. When getting both replaced, are there any gaskets that have to be replaced on the tubing connections?
@gettingitdone1
@gettingitdone1 Ай бұрын
@@Marex14 there will be gaskets at each connection point, it's better to replace them with new ones, but not vital as they will mostly be steel gaskets.

I have a 2017 ranger with dpf, so the cooler is onto the exhaust manifold with a v-clamp. Would this way still be the same with a px2 with dpf?

Hello there, what’s the access like on an 4X4 Automatic? And do you need to torque the EGR Valve to cooler bolts to specifications?

Thanks for the video, I will give this a go on my 2013 bt 50 as preventative maintenance. Ive heard alot about vacuum bleeding the system afterwards. Do I need to get a mechanic for this or can I do this myself at home? Cheers
@gettingitdone1
@gettingitdone1 3 ай бұрын
The cooling system on these should self bleed. When you first start it up, run it with the cap off for a bit until it warms up. Then put the cap on, drive it up to operating temperature, then let it cool down again and recheck the level.

Hi there. Yes I think this was on a 3.2 but either way I'm looking at 3.2 on the hoist now and it is the same set up. Some people have suggested they are a bit trickier with an auto trans, but I'd still give a go this way.

@@tonyletizia2873 you could find out if the genuine Mazda one is cheaper. I know there was a big difference in our country. Otherwise maybe you do try an aftermarket one. Also is this a quote from a mechanic? A lot of people think that the gearbox has to be removed to the job, but it doesn't. Maybe just check if that's what they're quoting you on.

Does the automatic transmission make it any harder to remove the cooler ?
@gettingitdone1
@gettingitdone1 Жыл бұрын
I haven't done one with an automatic transmission yet, but I imagine it could still be done this way. The bell housing of the Trans could be different, but wouldn't think that would have a significant affect.

@@gettingitdone1 From just looking at mine with the automatic I think the trans cooler would at least have to be removed to make room to get up to the egr valve bolts.
