Ranger RT 198 sealing the step box. (HOW TO)

After several different attempts to keep water from getting inside the center step box where I keep plastics and other things needed for the day. Water kept finding its way inside the box. I went all out this time and it is 95% water proof now.

Does the carpet on the bottom get wet? looks like it would just wick water into the box.

It hasn't yet. It's been 2 years. I believe it may be the carpet gets matted down plus the foam intertwine with pressure and makes it stay dry.
