This is when I first became a Rangers fan. I was 3 in 1994, and kinda missed that era. so this is the era I grew up on. Thanks for giving me anxiety for thinking back to those awful “buy a cup” days. 😂 I really think Lundqvist saved us from his era. glad brighter days are ahead for us! Love that lady liberty jersey though 🔥🔥🔥 i have a youth Theo Fleury one I so wish it still fit. I really hope they bring it back as a 3rd soon.

Under Glen Sather 2001-2 NHL Season was the year the New York Rangers totally lived up to their reputation which plagued them until Gorton took over. Haunted by the 1994 Stanley Cup, Front Office & fans alike were seduced by the idea that the Rangers can overspend without any cap concerns, retool and add another Cup. This is a New York Knicks philosophy. Enter: Lindros, Fleury, etc. Unfortunately the Rangers shit the bed. This is the conundrum in New York. Ranger tickets are FOUR times (at least) than the second most expensive venue. Under Dolan, stars justify the prices but the Rangers won’t rebuild. It’ll take another 14 yrs before they at least appear in the Cup; losing to LA in 5 games.

Bure 59 goals and Kozlov the next highest with...14?! Really?! Without looking it up, that has to be some kind of differential record. That takes some shine off the whole "Taylor Hall 94 points, 41 more than anyone else (which as a Hischier fan I always took at a backhanded stab at what was a quality rookie season for a quality two-way forward)" from the other year.

Ottawa was so good from the late-90's to mid-2000's could have easily won a cup if our goal-tending was solid! No offence to Lalime he is one of the best goalies to wear a Sens jersey of all-time, he and Anderson both had done so much for the team, but Hasek was the key to the promise land. If only there was no lock-out in 2005 that was Ottawa's year and it was snatched away.
@matthewdaley746
@matthewdaley746 5 жыл бұрын
It also was snatched away when you foolishly chose Redden over Chara.
@Wexter0083
@Wexter0083 5 жыл бұрын
 Matthew Daley at the time the two had very similar stats and it was a hard choice to make. Both looked primed to be fantastic players, Chara in hindsight had more longevity over Redden. Both were fantastic in their day with the Sens and it was a coin-flip decision at the time. In retrospect Chara was the better choice especially if we're taking about 2007 where Chara's size would have battled off Anaheim's more aggressive play. If Ottawa had Hasek and Chara in 2007 we're talking about a completely different team. But, hindsight is 20/20 on Chara vs. Redden.
@matthewdaley746
@matthewdaley746 5 жыл бұрын
@@Wexter0083 Nice try, you don't even need the benefit of hindsight to know that Redden folded like a cheap tent in the big moments, Chara NEVER did.
@Wexter0083
@Wexter0083 5 жыл бұрын
@@matthewdaley746 It took you two months to come back with that? And yes when talking about the move of players from former teams you have to look at why that player left and the management at the time. As far as points went Redden and Chara both had very similar point totals. Redden ended the 06 season with 50 points and a +35 and Chara ended with 43 points and a +17. So as far as the 06 season went Redden actually looked like the more rounded defenceman as Chara also had a habit of taking bad penalties. Chara was always above 100 PM a season while with Ottawa and ended the 06 season with 135 PM while Redden ended his season with 63 PM, less than half the amount of time Chara spent in the sin-bin. At the time the game was seen as getting faster and less physical so Redden was seen as more suited to that kind of game over Chara. Chara changed his game to suit the modern NHL and succeeded at that as we can see he's been a far smarter player in Boston than he was in Ottawa. Let's also not forget his first season in Boston was not great and it took till 09 for him to establish himself as the guy in Boston. In hindsight sure Redden did not have the same longevity as Chara in the league and Ottawa clearly saw that letting him go at the end of the 08 season. There are many reasons why Redden's game fell apart at that time, the loss of his mother (many noted after that loss his passion for the game seemed gone), and multiple injuries that killed his skating. That was after the 06 contract period and you cannot predict those things. It was a very hard choice as Ottawa had a very talented team and there was no way they could keep that core together. One of those two was going to leave at the end of the 06 season as the salary cap was not nearly as flexible as it is now-a-days and in retrospect, Ottawa should have kept Chara over Redden no one can argue that. But, at the same time some comments by former Ottawa Senators like Jason York did note that Chara wanted to be Captain, wanted a maxed-out contract and was less than pleased with Ottawa trading Hossa (that's another trade we can argue). So if I had to choose let's say keeping Daniel Alfredsson (who let's be honest would not give up the C) or Chara, I would pick Alfie if that was the case. But, in the perfect world, the 2005 season would have seen Ottawa lifting the cup and returning it to Canada or at the very least another frustrating season seeing Ottawa loss in the playoffs in a dramatic if souring loss i.e 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2017. So, yes when arguing why Chara left the Sens you have to know the context of the period. That's like saying Montreal trading Patrick Roy was a terrible trade because look he won two more cups after leaving and Montreal have not made the finals since 93. But, Roy also demanded a trade after the coach left him out to dry in an embarrassing loss to Detroit. You remove the context of the time period you just sound like someone who really does not know what they are talking about when it comes to hockey or a new fan who just looks at stats rather than the history of the sport. So... yeah, it took you two months to just get an education over a topic you don't fully understand. Have fun! :)

@Wexter0083 5 жыл бұрын
PS still love Chara! He will always have a home in Ottawa as we still love the giant defenceman. It would be great to see his Number be retired in Boston and see him play in the Red, White and Black in an alumni game in the future. We have nothing, but great things to say about him and very happy for him and his fantastic career in Boston and the cup he won there! We also still love Redden. He sits at #5 in all-time points for the franchise, #4 in games played and assists, #2 in points by a defenceman only lossing out to Erik Karlsson and #1 in all-time plus-minus at an insane +159 (that is more than Alfredsson, Spezza, and Karlsson). Redden had a great career in Ottawa and I don't think we should ever take that away from him. Both players shared the best of times as Sens and will always have their fantastic legacy in the fabric of the team and the hearts of its fans.

Ohhh it's going to be a long fun season on this channel. Can sense the Rangers winds blowing and it's glorious. I wonder after this persistent discussion about the Rangers spending money on free agency.... Wow what a concept...(by the way all the talk in the world doesn't change the simple fact that there's 3 or 4... Maybe 4 teams that literally support the whole league. If the most valuable team in the league spends money on free agents for the 18200 that filled that building everyday to try and entertain their fans then boo hoo) I wonder if there will be any discussion here about how much success the evil NY team had when they didn't spend more money than other teams from the moment the cap started. For some reason it's a good thing for the NHL when Vegas steals every other teams players because those teams had the nerve to be good at building a deep organization. Because it makes sense that an expansion organization be one of the best teams in the sport immediately. Nothing wrong with that at all. But the horror of Lindros or Jagr or Bure coming to NYC is just tragic. I'm sure the league doesn't want the NYC team to be good. Why would they eh?
