3:40 animation will never come up with another moment more badass than this frog dude shooting a lever action rifle with one hand, hanging off the side of a wagon being pulled by a pig, while smoking a cigar, as he is being chased by inbred moles shooting Gatling guns off the backs of bats. These few moments were greater than all of history combined, and our only evidence of existence were these frames from this movie, we would have a legacy untouchable by eons of innovation. y'know whats cool about that little quip is that the guy who was shooting it is the leader's younger son who also found the water barrel in the first place, and as we see at the end of the scene, the water jug is already empty. That little scene of him shooting the water is literally hinting to the audience that he already knew it was empty before they actually showed the container being empty!

They’re not vampire bats because there are no vampire bats indigenous to North America. They appear to be either Little or Big Brown Bats. Additionally the city is not Mesoamerican but instead is Puebloan. You can tell by the architecture and the setting. A diverse group of small pest animals in theatre stage costumes steal back their only remaining supply of water back from a family of wombats or moles that are flying on bats with gatling guns and rope-swinging hijackers. This movie was a lot more badass than it was ever expected to be, in a time where studios still looked at animations and thought they were only for kids, Rango somehow did that and also put in incredible action setpieces and also meaningful messages of resource exploitation, capitalism, self-discovery, manifestation, all of which could very well touch the heart of an adult as much as a kid.
