Personally Tiberian sun is my favorite C&C, the dark atmosphere, lore development around tiberium, the tiberium fauna and flora, ion storm and meteoritic storm which made that even the environment could be dangerous for the troops, the dark futuristic ambient; The disappearance of all this made me disgusted with C & C3 tiberium war they took a big step back (luckily tiberium essence is there to improve things), and let's not even speak of the 4 would be better if à chrono legionnaire could make him disappear.

Wow Drakul, you've made me feel bad for putting it so low. I did find C&C3's aesthetic a bit strange, almost like the world had recovered somewhat since the dark days of Tib Sun, which was at odds with the story.

Tiberian Sun was a GREAT idea. The terrain being affected by heavy fire, subterranean and stealth units, Veinholes, overall unit design as well as certain characters. Anton Slavik is my favourite C&C character, no contest. It's one C&C which has a lot of gray area, rather than the cliche "GDI good - Nod bad" in the other games. But it needed more time in the oven. Missile weapons as a whole are beyond useless, they can't even hit a moving harvester, let alone aircraft. Sensor arrays easily counter both stealth and subterranean units while being extremely effective and a tech tier lower. The balancing is so skewed towards GDI, it's not funny. Nod has not one good answer to Disruptors and especially Orca Bombers. Even a few Orcas could cause massive casualties in any ground force and there is no reliable mobile AA. Basically, if you want to attack a GDI base as Nod, bring an MCV and build forward SAM sites. TibEssence is really doing the TibSun setting the justice it deserved.

In every list I watch, Tiberium Wars, Red Alert 2 and Generals always end up in the top half of the ranking. That says a lot I think.

I would switch generals and red alert 2, but they are too close for me to really care! Love them both, I’m 33 years old and remember coming home from school and hopping on the giant pc monitor to play, now in 2024, I just bought the Command and conquer ultimate edition! Can’t wait to play again

Of the games I played, I'd rank them: 1. Red Alert 1 Much more polished than the original, and I still love the blend of real WW2 era warfare and 50's sci-fi. It ties into the Tiberium universe with directly with its setting and technology. The music rivals that of its predecessor in recognition. And while the balance between factions was perhaps even worse than with GDI and Nod, it expanded the RTS genre even further. 2. Command & Conquer The RTS genre wouldn't exist without it, and the subtle nods to contemporary military conflict was more interesting than where the series would eventually go. All of the most iconic moments, tropes and units from the series were first introduced here. The soundtrack was very 90's in a positive way, and is still the basis for any game that came afterwards. And the remaster has given it new life without changing anything from the original, warts and all. 3. Command & Conquer 3: Tiberiun Wars While I wasn't the greatest fan of the direction Tiberian Sun went, if we must accept it as is, this game did everything it could to get the series back on track after the quiet years in the franchise. The campaign was a solid experience giving each mission some strong moments. It also succeeded in competitive play, and was perhaps the only time EA stood a chance at rivalling Blizzard for e-sport exposure. It's just a shame there were no other new entries in the C&C series after this. 4. Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun As much as it the leap into the future jarred me at first, I cannot deny the influence this game had on the later entry in the series, and many of its icons. While the music couldn't ever be as iconic as the first two games, there were some bangers on the track list. And the gameplay experience did evolve further. 5. Command & Conquer: Generals By all rights, this should have been higher on my list if it wasn't for the fact this game always felt like C&C-in-name-only. EA was banking on name recognition pretty hard with this game. Which is a shame, because even without the C&C name, this game could have stood on its own in terms of sheer gameplay. While not every change was welcome, all three factions was both distinct and enjoyable. What holds this back is the almost non-existent characters and bare bones storyline that never could hold a candle to the original, despite similar settings. It must also be said that the cancellation of its sequel was a damn shame, and I really wish EA hadn't been looking so hard for an excuse to cancel whatever couldn't be milked for microtransactions. 6. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 My relationship with this game was always "it's complicated". I did not enjoy how much of a departure the setting took from its predecessor, the silly and cartoonish characterization and baffling geo-politics have grinded my gears for years and I cannot see this as anything but divorced from the rest of the series completely. To point out the plot holes is an excersize in futility, as the whole story is a gaping plot hole. But all that said, if all you want is have a fun afternoon LANing with some friends and blowing their bases to scrap, this game nails that. Outside of Starcraft, I can't think of an entry in the series that was this easy to get into multiplayer. And you probably won't be killed by a Korean munchkin within 2 minutes of game start. 7. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 I cannot begin to describe how much of a disappointment the story of this game was, even coming off of 2, which had a very cliché and over-the-top campaign already. I can only describe it as "they gave up". If I didn't like the direction the previous game went, this one definately took it too far. I can't even say I enjoyed it for its gameplay because not only was the mandatory co-commander in single player a drag that ended up setting the pace of the game for you, but the micro-intensive unit abilities only served to complicate things. This game killed off my hope for the series completely, and it seems EA agreed since they haven't made any entries in the series since. Ever. Not one game.

The only CnC I ever played a lot of (and I mean a LOT) was Tiberian Sun but having just purchased the Ultimate Pack and immediately played Tib Sun for a couple of days, I got on KZbin to see what other games in the franchise were as good and expecting Tib Sun to be near the top of the list. BTW, I barely play campaign and only play skirmishes so that's what I loved about Tiberium Sun... I just never found the graphical style of the other games in the franchise that I played to be to my tastes.

My top 3 would be Red Alert and Red Alert 2 on top followed by original C&C There is just something about these games in terms of atmosphere, the cutscenes, the design and soundtrack that other C&C games cannot match. I agree on Tiberian Sun that its rather dull. I mean I can appreciate its perhaps darkest atmosphere in the series but the fact that it tries too hard to tell "serious" story and is the only C&C game with live action cutscenes that dont have that "1st person view" makes it feel bit odd. So thats why I would also rank it more or less where you did, behind Generals, C&C3 and Red Alert 3 But ye im amazed how well original C&C and Red Alert have stood the test of time. Obviously they are dated in many ways but if you compare them to its main rival from those years, Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft II (which was my first RTS game and thus always rated it higher than C&C) I have to say that after playing all these 4 games as remastered, its C&C and Red Alert that have aged better. Now I just wish they remastered Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 but unfortunately it seems that is unlikely to happen. I also bought C&C4 back in the day but never played it and after all Ive seen from it, not a single person saying it would even be decent, its better off that I dont ever experience it myself 😂. Sad ending to the franchise though that would have deserved so much better

I agree with you entirely on every placement. RA2 is the best, no questions asked. People who like to cite TibSun as the best do so cause of the moody atmostphere, but the gameplay and campaign do leave a lot to be desired, and mood alone can't carry a game. Especially when the following game knocks it out of the park in every category.

HOW TF IS TIBERIAN SUN 7? you could repaird civillian buildings, and had the best map creative tools, and a scenario builder- there could have been more factions, but compaired to the "sillyness" of RA2. you should have at least switcherd the orininal and tib sun. SUN is the peak of C&C lore, and amount of whats there. (besides factions) you had the Mutants, GDI, NOD, Cabal, and the Scrin. (if only everything was playable as individuals.) people would get mutated and become tiberium monsters, (before 3 when you just had bug aliens.) and then theyd attack citys. its like they were following up to have as many distint factions as warcraft3. but then they would just reskin nod and gdi as allies and axis. generals was tight. but it would have been cooler if the supplies were more stable, like tiberium as a supply was. same for red alert. there was no was to farm it. and SUN had walls. like what more do you need to know about it being the best GDI/NOD diversity.

Been over a year since I made that vid, but I knew the Tib Sun placement would someone off eventually. I don't know what to tell you outside of what I said in the video. I think its one of the weaker games story and gameplay wise. Obviously you feel different which is, of course, fine and just how life is.

Generals on 2? It's the only C&C i find less appealing than C&C4. I hate literally everything about the game. The soundtrack, the setting, the take ON that setting, the "should have waited a few years to make a 3D RTS"-graphics, the lobotomization of resource gahering... I never understood why it was so popular. It managed at the same time to be too bland and too ridiculous.

Why is it less appealing? Why is it bland? I find games nowadays too scared to create anything resembling real life modern conflicts. Which is why I also tend to like COD 4 MW and MW2. I also find it very appealing that every faction has its own unique units, playstyle (i.e USA has air superiority, GLA’s main tactic is hit and run, and China uses spam/overwhelming numbers), strength/weaknesses, voicelines, soundtracks etc. Unique aspects across factions that most RTS games lack. The ROTR mod of this game takes this even further by turning USA into a ‘jack of all trades’ faction, and adding a steamroll faction (Russia) and a turtling faction (ECA/Europe). Any RTS games involving conflicts with Nazis or Soviets, Civilisation Growth, Sci-Fi and Mythologies/Fantasies is overdone at this point. It’s getting super bland and repetitive and I hate it for that reason. You’ll rarely see any games nowadays involving conflicts with China or Middle East in modern settings, and this is not just in RTS games.

My list is quite different. I would put Tiberian sun to 1:st, because it had best plot in my opinion and it was great to see world more infested with Tiberium and Kane coming back when you actually learn he is more than human Nod leader. RA 2 and Tiberian wars was tier 2 for me. Ra 2 has very good game play, but plot isn't that great. Tiberian wars has great plot as world is mostly consumed by tiberium and humans are desperate to find solution for tiberium problem. Also alien faction scrins bring nice spice to the mix. Game play is ok, not really big upgrade after Tiberian sun thought. RA 3 and Generals were tier 3, time travel plot is nice as it was in og RA, but plot isn't that great. It's basically old allies vs soviets third time with empire of the rising sun because of time travel, but it just didn't bring anything new. There was some nice new things like units that can travel land and sea or chance from air units to walking units, but all in all it was little meh for me. Generals was closest to "our world / near future world" and only one where superweapons were not limited. Game play was ok, but there was really no interesting plot points or even good actors, just those "news" between missions. OG RA and C&C are tear 4 for me, they are ok games with good plot, but game play feels pretty old these days. C&C 4 is dogshit and I agree with you, they really took everything out that make game command and conquer game, it's just empty husk. You can see plot really is even bigger thing to me than game play. That's because I feel that C&C games are always driven by good plot and good actors. That is biggest reason why generals, RA 3 and C&C 4 are so low in this list. RA 3 and Generals doesn't have great plot and only mediocre actors. C&C 4 biggest sin aside how bad game play was, that they tried to make Kane some kind of good guy and savior of mankind. Kane is one of the best video game villains for me and it was just disgusting how they turned him to good guy suddenly. Worst decision ever.
