Love the Butcher's shop. Very understated, and would fit perfectly with Modulars in design. One thing, could you add images of the rear side - is it open or closed? I just wonder if you could adapt it to make it hinged so the rear opened out to make it almost a corner Modular, if that makes sense. Maybe add an old fashioned yellow C-Cab Butcher Truck too!

Whoa! I designed the Canal Lock :) Kind of surreal seeing you covering it! Glad you liked it so much. Integrating the mechanisms in the rather constrained modular setting was pretty hard, because ideally, you want to have the two sidewalks coming from buildings on either side to connect... But there is a canal lock in the way! So I was almost forced into this layout with stairs and an overbridge. I was also a bit hesitant with the sand green roof at first (it was dark grey originally), but a friend of mine told me "it's got to be green!", so I listened! The cinema is meant to be a reference to Cinema Paradiso (hence the old man and the kid and a sticker that looks awfully like Casablanca) If anyone has questions I'm more than happy to answer!
@BrickedtoPerfection7 ай бұрын
Great to see you on here! Thank you for sharing more details about your set! It was so cool to see a canal lock implemented into a modular. Before I did this full time, I didn't even know what a canal lock was (I learn so much doing this, lol). Excellent brickwork bringing mechanical functionality into this theme!! The way you presented your video was next level, as well. I'm hoping more people get a chance to see the hard work you put into this 🙂 Btw, I love the use of sand green - I think that works better than dark gray (even though I love that color).
@paupadros7 ай бұрын
@@BrickedtoPerfection Thank you mate! I'm a big infrastructure nerd and canals were the railways before the railways, so it was something I'd wanted to put in a model for a while. Funny you talk about the video. I literally ran out of time and could only render the basic lift mechanism animation. I would have done one with all the gears moving and such. The sand green does add colour, I agree that with that much tan and nougat, it's nice to have other shades. I also think it works well with the foliage, with both being green. Awesome video man!
@pinobluevogel64587 ай бұрын
I want to commend you on the build. It was one of the modular buildings that immediately caught my eye and learning that it was a functioning canal lock made it so much more impressive. There are so many great builds that I could never achieve myself, but this one, in such a tightly constrained space, that is just top notch building! Well done, I hope it gets made.
@paupadros7 ай бұрын
@@pinobluevogel6458 Thank you so much! It really was: let's come up with a good design around the function! It was pretty tight and forced the design to a pretty constrained but unique layout. Architecturally, it's a kind of architecture that I'd wanted to do for a while as well, so that works out too!

Thanks for covering a couple of my models! I thought I'd add a couple things - With the Northpoint School, the footprint is 32x48 instead of the regular 32x32 which helps a bit, at least in my opinion, with value. For example, the natural History museum has the same baseplate footprint and is over 1000 more parts, so the price should be reasonable for the size. Also, I thought I'd mention that, at least to my knowledge, all the BDP sets so far have been under 10 cents per piece, so prices would likely be at the bottom of your estimates, if not potentially lower, depending on the model. Thanks for continuing to cover BDP! 🙂
@BrickedtoPerfection7 ай бұрын
Absolutely! I picked the best modulars I could find, which was not easy 😄 I dig your design style! I love that callout with the 32x48 footprint. That's amazing you were able to keep the piece count so low, while maintaining all of those details. The way you present your sets always catches my eye. Here's to hoping that they keep the price point on the lower end. I'm noticing that the hype for Bricklink has naturally calmed down quite a bit from a consumer side. The quality of sets is also increasing from creators, including yourself! I'll do what I can to bring awareness to quality stuff. I'm glad we've had two sets sell out in Series 2 and everything was funded! Thank you so much for checking out the video and adding additional commentary 🙂 Rooting for you and everyone in this video for Series 5!

That Vynil shops does something most modular buildings do not: Stick to what is its function and design. There is no wasted space, the building architecture is clearly recognisable as to what it is, as is the interior space. It offers a bit more than you would think of right away, witth the recording studio included, but that completely fits with what is here. This has a great compact design. I'm not a huge fan of more 'modern' style buildings, but this as close as it can be to something I would buy in that style.

You picked some excellent buildings to showcase. LEGO has been stingy in selecting modulars as finalists for production as they appear to want to have total control over them. The "listening booth" in the Vinyl Store is a relic from my teenage days ... back when you purchased 45s and could buy an album in Mono or Stereo (the stereo version being $1 more). Teenagers would hog those booths playing the latest 45s over and over! Great video in both production and content.
