I'm honestly shocked that 'Apple' became a bigger deal than 'Sympathy is a knife'. That chorus is something else, it casually talks about superslide-al ideation in a way plenty of Millennials and Zoomers understand fully, it gets to that awful feeling of insecurity that comes from being jealous but congnizant of your inability to match someone else in probably the most effective way a pop song has ever, and it's messily and aggressively feminine in a way we don't see too often in the mainstream. 'Apple' is good and all, but 'Sympathy is a knife' is a magnitude 10 bop, factually off the scale good.

Personally, I'm still stuck that people are sleeping on 365. I think it being a closer and also a remix/interpolation of 360 was artistically amazing for the album and concept, but it probably meant that people gravitate to 360 more. Esp with the music video for 360. Which is fine I guess, but I think 365 is just as good if not better. Talk to me and b2b are also underrated imo, but to be fair the entire album is bangers

I’m not knocking it all because I enjoyed Brat, but I constantly have to remind myself that my TikTok feed is not necessarily a reflection of the actual world, and brat seems to be one of those things that when I try to find it outside of that… it’s just not something with lasting power. Like there are news stories about it but they’re not songs I think anyone of any age would recognize or understand the lore. Whereas, my middle aged dad with no social media knows who Sabrina carpenter is after this summer and complains about having espresso and the other single stuck in his head. lol hope this made sense, just my take on it. Therefore I switched to exclusively listening to Kpop - it just brings the creative fun I’ve been missing. HOWEVER I’ve loved the music this year has brought so far and I can’t wait to hear more especially from Sabrina and Chappell!

Amazing video, Mic! The A-Minor transition was amazing. Although hearing the synth version of Margaritaville during the "straight man" section now makes me think we need a Jimmy Buffett DDD (RIP)

hello mr. snare, this is entirely unrelated but re: ortolans at 5:30, but fun fact those birds are also eaten whole (bones and all) and traditionally you're supposed to cover your face when you do it because the way it gets eaten is a 'disgrace to god'

I've been on a huge poptimist kick this year, but that's not why I'm commenting. Last year, I saw Spoon opening for The War on Drugs outside the Sydney Opera House, and for ages I've been meaning to jump on one of your videos and say thank you for championing both those bands as loudly as you have because that was one of the best shows I've been to. Keep up the great work Mr. the Snare!

I think it’s too bad that none of Chappell or Charli’s songs cracked the top ten on this list, but I’ll always remember them as being key players in the summer of 2024. That being said, none of the songs on this list are ones I dislike or don’t think deserve to be here.

Your videos are my most looked forward to. They are so fun, so compelling, so eloquent. I really loved “L’AMOUR DE LA VIE” from Billie’s album, and was fun to hear a couple things here I somehow haven’t heard yet!

you are so right about a pop song needing that something that doesn't quite make sense or sound right to our ears, it engages you in such a bizarre but simple way. that said, placing I Had Some Help above A Bar Song is a choice.

Birds of a Feather, as well as many other songs on HMHAS give a lovely retro vibe, so big W for the shoutout. Overall I'm happy to see how Billie grew up as a singer, especially as someone who hated her back in middle school when she was blowing up with "bad guy" because i wanted to be like anyone else. another W for the Sabrina Carpenter inclusion, i listened to Short and Sweet for the first time this morning and while at parts it was a bit off putting it's still (to my ears) a somewhat fun album and definitely an honorable mention of the year. i never understood the hate for Sabrina tbh, i guess people just hate fun (S&S is the only album from her I've listened to idk)

Please Please Please to me is one of the best pop songs in a while from a musicality standpoint. In pop music, you generally don’t see stuff that is in Please Please Please. That key change from the 2nd key back its original key sounds SO good

Loved the video! I agree that it was a pretty great summer of music. My favorite song this summer was this song called “Calling After Me” by Wallows. A few pop stations played this one over the summer, and I wish it got bigger because it is catchy as hell. Highly recommend this track. Keep doing great things 🤙
