The theory about GW waffling over Toughness and Strength of big stuff while the 'Nids codex was being written makes a lot of sense. Because it definitely seems like too many big bugs have too low of a Strength value and they are pretty poor at dealing with Knights. At the very least you'd expect Carnifexes and Screamer Killers to have an Anti- keyword for them.

I've noticed a lot of Tyranid armor penetration is also really weak in melee.

​@CataclysmDM crushing claws on carnifexs with old one eye is about it. That's why I've used them in every game I've played so far. The S9 AP-2 venom cannons really hurt as well.

Surprised at the trygon being so low. Coming in 3 inches with rapid ingress is really strong and it will mince a heavy infantry squad with its 3 damage attacks. Also can wreck havoc in the backfield and capture the enemy objective. It's been great in every game I've seen

Who takes OOE without a Carnifex? Anyway, as a Tyranid player I'm bummed that our best units are all boring scoring units, as opposed to fun damage output units. I want my Tyranids to have their proper place as the main menace of the 40K universe and instill fear on the table, instead of 'Darn, it'll sure be hard to stop this dude from scoring'.

Overall good content. Might be worth having people with slightly more divergent opinions work together? Didn't really feel like discussions, more felt like the units being ranked and then a follow up "yup, I agree" for every single unit. If there was any push back at all on a single unit I missed it.

Stealers are faster than you think on turn 1 in the Vanguard detachment. You get to redeploy if you go first, 8” scout, 8” move, D6 advance, 2D6 charge, 1” engagement range, 3” pile in and 3” consolidate. 27” average threat range without pile in or consolidation

Winged Prime with Relentless hunger leading a block of 6 melee warriors basically gives you an 8” moving unit of better melee in the unending swarm detachment. I plan on trying this out in the near future see how it handles

Simply furious that John doesn't recognize the terror of late 9th hormagaunts: 17" Move 45 Attacks (1 CP for 60) Hitting on 3s (From Direct Guidance) Strength 5 (Adrenal + Behemoth) +1 to wound AP 1 Killed pretty much everything in the game. Killed the unkillable command squad multiple times. Also somewhat upset they don't appreciate hormagaunts in 10th. Cheaper than gargoyles, harder to screen, more movement if they make a charge, better save. 2 squads go in all my swarm lists.

If you want to make a more unique and stand out Old One Eye model, flip the carnifex torso around before gluing it. You’ll end up with a tall, lumbering and terrifying carnifex. Then spice his crab claws up with spare haruspex class. 10/10

Anytime I wonder about the competitiveness of a unit I check if it’s in stock on GW’s site.10 times out of 10 If it’s sold out, it’s competitive

Trygon is bottom of seasonal, defintely not worse than screamer killer. Otherwise I agree with the list.

I was hoping to see the few FW options still be ranked. I know they can be a hassle but for those of us that have some it can be very beneficial to hear the AoW team's thoughts on their current status. I believe we're down to four options so not too much extra to cover. I have a Scythed Hierodule which I am aware is the least desired for now but any insight on ways to get the most out of it is helpful.

I was actually thinking the ranged warriors were better than the melee ones because having a gun means they can do things outside the fight phase (and the guns do benefit from the Winged Prime's Sustained Hits), plus they are cheaper. But, I can definitely see how that might be a problem for them being generalists in a game that favors specialists (and as was pointed out their guns are not super good and BS4+ sucks). I feel like Genestealers are kind of undersold, as getting Advance & Charge from the Vanguard detachment, plus their scout and 8" move gives them a pretty good threat range. I think they're probably okay as a bully unit to try to tie stuff up and distract the opponent while the actual good pieces in the army get set up.

I killed Roboute Guilliman with 10 stealers and a Broodlord with a round one charge. I've also have killed several Terminator squads and a few Dreadnoughts. They usually earn their points for me so I don't think they are that bad.

@@vaettra1589 yes, 40 attacks and rerolling 1's so about 40 to wound rolls, and then the Brood Lord 5 attacks doing the same and rerolling all to wounds, and 2 dmg each hit. Did 10 wounds, and he failed his "come back to life" roll

Thank you, gentlemen. Great review. I am a tad lost since we were all laughing at how the Toxicrene is unusable as a model; that aside, what is the final verdict of its data sheet and rules? I might have missed it from laughing. Lol

I hate how high people rate melee warriors they are so slow and squishy and they just die before they get in melee. Give me any other melee Lictors variants, mawloc, carnifex, old one eye, haruspex. At least they have a chance of getting in before they die. Too many points to be worth using. At least ranged warriors have a purpose they are cheap long ranged synapse. Sit them on objectives or in back line to spread your aura and do 36 inch blast weapons at the light and medium infantry.

Genestealers are getting insulted here. To rate melee warriors especially above genestealers is a crime! You're gonna buff warriors with the prime for 235pts and the genestealers with a broodlord at 265 total. The genestealers will statistically kill 5 man terminators in a single round over 60% of the time, they will outdamage the warriors against literally every target for 30 more points and they have an invuln. They are a single toughness and wound worse in exchange for an easy first turn charge, 5+ invuln, and substantially more damage especially against TEQ/CEQs. Run a 10 man blob in VA with a Chameleonic Broodlord and see for yourselves if you don't believe the math

Great video guys, this has helped a ton with being a new Nids player! I'm currently making a Vanguard Onslaught 500 point list for a narrative campaign, and I'm struggling to put something cohesive together - does anyone have any advice?

Nice Thing with nids is U can choose Ur Style. Stealthy Infiltration Bugs: deathleaper, neuroliktor, von Ryan leaper with a Neurotyrant for good chances Shadow in the Warp can Work, extremly cool vs light Horde armys or Low Armor enemy. Big Bugs are Ur Thing? Haruspex, maleceptor, exocrines and hive tyrant for survival stratagem, allways Work with Allrounded stuff. Or anoy everyone and Bring 240 hormagaunts, termagants and gargoyles as a swarm. Tervigon and venomthropes make them really more survivabe. And zoanthropes are everywhere valluable and necercarry for survival buff and kill tougher enemys. Hope that helped xd

for the first time in a very long time, I feel like these guys have not played tyranids in 10th before or after the nerfs.. I have some hot takes as well, but oh boy, after 40+ games of tyranids I can not disagree more with some of these. - Hive Tyrant is TERRIBLE, not just bad, just simply terrible. for the points he costs, he issnt even remotly worth what he does. the give assault + free strat is worth like a 90pts captain.. his model is worth nothing... a venom cannon and his melee attacks are only S9 which means they wound any kind of relevant terminator model on a 4+ so he basically does no damage against the targets he should be used against.. so paying 150 pts more for just a kind of huge body that you can simply ignore just is never worth taking. You can get 30 gargoyles, 40 termagants, 8 Pyrovores, a maleceptor and 3 ripper swarm, or almost 2 haruspex for its points. which are all options that are worth much more than getting assault on what? Termagants? Pyrovores? what else even moves and shoots? - If you dont start you list with 3 ripperswarms, I dont know what you are doing. in 80% of all games, these 60 pts convert into 15+ VP by themself. - Tyrannofex was NOT S tier before, he was too expensive at the start and is now a nerfed joke. yes he has high thoughness, but just having a okayish flamer weapon doesn't make a model good. MAYBE at 150pts i would at least THINK about taking one because he at least has very high toughness. - Carnifexes are just sad and bad and makes me sad.. they dont do anything and die like flies. for what they do, they should be 90pts per model, and then I would take them as a swarm of medium sized bugs. 10pts less than a haruspex for one model is a joke. - making a deathleaper a torunament staple, and a regular Lictor only unseasoned also makes no sense, they fullfill the exact same roll, just a little worse (assuming they will get their invuln back) so they should just be a tier below, because if you are taking a deathleaper you also almost always pick at least one lictor if only for the free rapid ingress. - Swarmlord same as the hive tyrant is just criminally overcosted. yet I argue that this guy at least has a use compared to the tyrant, because he also gives you one 1CP per round, BUT you can use it globally on anything you want all the time. So if you are REALLY desperate for CP, like maybe a swarm detachment where you want to revive your models alot, he CAN be used to give you that without thinking to much. and also can sometimes completely shut down an opponents stratagem plan. so he is at least sometimes usable, where as the hivetyrant is never a good choice. And hopefully he will drop like 50-70 pts. - In regards to the Toxicrene I really dislike how overly kind you are sometimes to some models. Becuase NO, not even at 140pts you would think about taking one... so sometimes you can just say oh god this models is terribly costed and a joke. he is ap-1 D2.. he is almost worse than the haruspex in every regard. and the haruspex is perfectly pointed already.. if the haruspex gets more expensive you are not playing any monsters anymore besides maybe the maleceptor. So what needs to happen is that the toxicrene drops to like AT LEAST 130pts. THEN you MIGHT consider using one if you have 5 pts to spare. anti infantry 2+ sounds nice, but with just 1 ap and only 2 damage he really is just a space marine killer, termis still save on a 3 and you need 2 hits to kill one, resulting in MAYBE 1-2 dead termis, if this is what you are paying your 130pts on then hf. - von ryans leaper at first I agreed looked terrible on paper. but once you think about it, them costing as little as a gargoyle unit for three of them they do become quite useful. Once you get 3 units of these, and set them just right in front of your opponents deployment zone 9 inches away with 2" between them so you have a unpassable row of 9 guys can devastate some armys that want to get out quickly or are very slow. If you go first you basically auto win, because you can move even closer and literally trap the enemy inside their own deployment zone for one whole turn. And in a two turn game, denying your opponent 50% of the game is so worth the 225pts (still less than a hive tyrant btw :) ). And even if you go second, your opponent cant move foward much and NEEDS to deticate at least some shooting or melee to get rid of them immediately. because if done right, you will already back them up with another row of infiltrator or just more swarm like gargolyes. Now I dont think that they are amazing, but they are at least a very strong seasonal choice in both vanguard and even swarm. Because since all the tyranid datasheets are shit. you cant win fighting, so what you do is cheese the enemy in their base and just win on primary and secondary with waves of trash. In vanguard there is a cool little Trick with the enhancement where you can deploy two rows of 3 infiltrator units, 3 in the middle behind walls, and 3 aggressively right in front of the enemy. Then if you go second, you simply pick the 3 in front up and place them behind cover, or If you go first, pick up the three units in the back and also place them aggressivley and get turn 1 charges with 6 units. In my mind, tyranid monsters should all be cheaper, tyranids should be able to field a ton of monsters with mediocre datasheets (because thats what all of them are) and then you can get rid of ripper swarms and biovores and tyranids just beeing able to win because of essentially cheese tactics.. Carnifexes 90pts, psychophage 90-100pts. tyrants 150pts. swarmlord 180pts. screamer killer 140pts. Tyrannofex 150 pts. Trygon 130pts

@@vaettra1589 the base invasion detachment from the index is pretty solid for sure, the flexibilty makes it work quite well. the synaptic nexus I can definitly see becoming the strongest overall. having a defensive waaagh for turn 1 or 2 is insane, especially on heavy monster lists, and a +1 to hit for the turn after makes quick work of most enemy armies coupled with the reroll hit and wound 1 vs one target strat. Vanguard has some neat tricks, like completely trapping the enemy army in their deployment zone for 1-2 turns while just winning on primary autoamtically (played 5 games with them so far and haven't lost a single one) and even swarm, which I am trying out right now, actually might be sleeper good. Im basically at a point now where I put half of my vanguard units into a swarm, just to trap my opponent turn 1 in their deployment zone, and then literally flooding the board with 3 waves of gaunts and gargoyles that I just throw at my enemy, to move block and trap in combat while simply playing mission with rippers, bios and more gargoyles and winning on primary and secondary. and basically using the 2CP revive strat every turn to put yet another 20 model unit of gargoyles or gaunts back on the table even if they kill it. I've come to accept that tyranids can not kill and die easily. So I dont even try anymore and just throw so much trash at them until they can't move anymore. So the "meta pick" might end up beeing vanguard and winnign on mission or synaptic nexus to help counteract all the flaws that tyranids have instead of embracing them. for ME right now I think Swarm can actually be pretty solid and I like playing off meta stuff. just 3x3 von ryans, a lictor and deathleaper, 2 neuro lictor for the frontline. 3x1 ripper and 1 biovore for secondaries. (maybe) a swarm lord for CP to always have cp ready for a revive. one Tervi, although I might even cut that for two more gargoyles. 60 termagaunts, 40 Hormagaunts and 40 gargoyles. Tervi + terma is nice with 1CP 40 shots 5+ crits for sustained 1 and lethal hits, but I dont know if I even want to try to kill anything.. maybe just 4 small gargoyles and 2 large gargoyle units might just be better. gargoyles are just so freaking good its insane, they are always the mvp. OC 40! Auto Advance 12+6", shoot, move 6". 1CP(If you even need it) get 40 OC everywhere you want within 24".
