Ranking Cowboy Bebop episodes

Today I'm ranking the episodes of the classic anime Cowboy Bebop, from the least compelling to my absolute favorite. This is just a subjective list based on my preferences, and everything after the first 3 I think is legitimately good, no matter how you'd rank 'em. :)

We agree that #20 Pierre Le Fou is the best episode. It has one of the single best action sequences ever in a TV anime when Spike gets juggled Tekken style

Im actually surprisee you put Session 3 so low. Sure its a bit slow but I like the gambling theme and it has one of the better action scenes. I dont think Session 4 needed to be as high as it was though. All in all I like your list. I value honesty in these kinds of videos and the fact you were willing to say your thoughts honestly even if a chunk of the bebop fanbase might disagree heavily is respectable. Also yeah Ballad of the fallen angels, Real Folk Blues pt2, and Pierret Le fou are amazing. I agree with most of your list save for Session 3 and Session 4s but otherwise good work buddy

The gambling theme is cool, I agree - it's probably what I do like about the episode most. I do these kinds of videos for fun mainly, and like I said, I really don't know what the consensus is (if there is one) among fans when it comes to favorites / least favorites. I just share what I honestly think and if people are interested, they can tune in. :) Thanks for your comment and for sharing your thoughts as well.

Brain Scratch is an AMAZING episode. One of my tops. Also Real Folk Blues, because it catches you off guard (As an introduction to the series) with the haunting ending and jazz

"Brain Scratch" is a hard one for me to rank. It might not be fair to fully compare it to something like Serial Experiments Lain. "Brain Scratch" is clearly drawing more from the Heaven's Gate cult incident, which I should've acknowledged in the video. But yeah, Cowboy Bebop is a series that starts and ends strong!

That episode draws from a lot things tbh, including biblical ideas. Scratch as in old scratch uses light (the luc part of Lucifer) to deceive people into becoming part of a collective

I don’t agree with everything on your list but oh my god THANK YOU for appreciating Sympathy for the Devil 😌. Such an incredible little story with an even more stylistic flair than most episodes, and I love the villain.

Session 18, Speak Like a Child, was about a Beta cassette, not VHS. The whole reason the odyssey failed, was because neither Jet nor Spike new the difference and brought back a VHS player instead of a Beta deck.

I disagree about the VT episode. I think VT is a good enough character that makes the episode interesting character. I like her dynamic with Spike and I think the ending with Spike finally figuring out her name is well done. I think the action scenes also help keep the episode engaging, although I agree about the bad guy being very forgetful.

Yo! Just found this video because i was in the mood to go down memory lane! I mostly agree with your top pick! I frequently switch between these three, i actually rewatched Session 20 just before this video haha. I think the only one I could kind of disagree with being so high was the mushroom episode, but i do have to agree it's one of the funnier episodes of the entire show, so i can understand where your coming from. My personal favorite is Speak Like A Child, mostly because i sympathize heavily with Faye in that very moment. I do have a tough time remembering things of my past, so when I see photos or videos of myself, i can't process it, and this episode really helped me kind of cope with that? Also, in Younger Faye's chant, "Don't lose, me" has double meaning, as in "Don't give up", but also "Don't forget me", and I think the English dub is very clever for this (as the double meaning was not in the original Japanese version), and it's something i often think about when i catch myself missing my past. Loved the video, it put a lot of things into perspective!

I think episode 1 is a masterpiece and one of the greatest in the whole show. Best represents thematically what the entire show as a whole is about.

By far. My Funny Valentine isn’t amazing, but based solely on the character history for Faye it means more and is better than Boogie Woogie Feng Shui, which is the single completely disposable episode of the series.

I think what helped put Session 20 at the top of the list for _many_ people is the preview for the episode itself. No sound, no music, no one talking, except for the truly insane laughter of the titular character over clips of him killing, beating up Spike and him going through the tortures that made him so dangerous. _All while he laughs like the laughs themselves are violently bursting out of him._ The perfect preview for an episode like this.

True. I watched the show on funanimation so I didn't need to see any previews and I mostly didn't save for the episode with jet's partner where the prisoners try to escape , and #20 . And that's one of my favourite episodes

Personal opinion, probably unpopular opinion. I kind of thought that, although it could use improvement, I think that with Speak Like A Child on Faye betting on horses and dogs was because she was trying to find something good in life; sort of feeling like she was missing something in her life. In short, she had a pretty bad day, and seeing that video of her when she was younger (and before the accident) was a bittersweet feeling of herself cheering for her after a pretty crappy day, but at the same time, can't remember what it was like to have that innocence or what she wanted before being frozen. Waltz on Venus, I like it. My brother often quoted the Bruce Lee line that Spike said about "being like water," to Mr. I thought it was one of the at heart episodes of Bebop; one of the reasons because if thinking about the ending when Rocco died and spores fell. I thought with that it was symbolizing you can't really see anything that would of been special or beautiful until it gone, in the same category of "right person, wrong time."
