Captain Bommerang probably wanted to die after all those missions and he didn’t seem to sad when he was about to die and Polkadot man died happy and he Wanted to die anyway. Savant was just an idiot, like a few shots to the chest aren’t as bad as having your head exploded. TDK just didn’t think it through. Rick flag was outmatched by peacemaker, it was an unfair fight to begin with.

@impishDCfan85 85 How did Flagg get a dumb death? He had a great fight with Peacemaker over trying to get the tapes, and it was only because of him that squad was able to earn their freedom. Savant died because he didn't stand a chance in the situation he was in. Being a genius martial artist does not let you beat a hundred armed military men. TDK got a dumb death because he was a joke character, so no problem with that. And narratively speaking all the intro characters died to set up how expendable the "suicide squad" is and the gorey and brutal nature of the movie. I'll agree that Polkadot man's death was really stupid. Served no purpose for him to die in that way at that point of the movie.

This is why his death was the best one. Because it was so impactful. If he'd lived, his weird mother obsession likely would have sent him back down a villainous route in no time, but instead he died a hero. For a character who, in most movies, would have been a throwaway gag and killed off early, he got way more development and death and a more poignant end than I think anyone expected. Flag and Boomerang were definitely the saddest deaths to me. Boomerang was one of my favorite characters from Suicide Squad 2016, so seeing him killed off that early hurt. My observations: 1. Milton was a straight up BRO. He was only supposed to drive them to the city, but remained a ride-or-die homie until the end. 2. Peacemaker said his helmet represents freedom and liberty, and when he fights Flagg he is suppressing freedom and crushing liberty and never picks his helmet back up. In his twisted mind he could justify everything he has done, but there is no justification for actively killing a man to stop him from doing the right thing for the freedom of America. He left Liberty behind for the rest of the film. 2.b. Once he started killing the freedom fighters, his dove on his chest was stained with blood in the same pose and appearance as the bird Savant killed in the beginning. Showing that "Liberty" was dead at that point and he just kills because he's a psychopath who makes excuses for himself. 3. Ratcatcher 2 has a sleep thing, because she learned to sleep on the streets and sleep through almost anything, with rats crawling on her and the loud city around her. Also, rats are mostly nocturnal but tend to sleep very heavily in short naps with foraging in between. She's a big adorable rat. 4. Blackguards name is Dick Hurts. Lol Rick Hertz. 5. Savant panicked because he was intelligent enough to know they were fucked. He wasn't a coward, he just knew the odds of survival were 0. He was confident until he saw how inept his team was and how overwhelming the odds. There are a ton more cool details and I plan to watch it again soon and find more. This was inarguably better than the previous one!

He recognized that the odds of even making it off the beach was incredibly low, and actually succeeding on the mission was not going to happen. (He was unaware of the other team.) and therefore he had no reason to be there anymore.. he wasn't getting those 10y off his sentence and would likely die on this mission... better to peace the fuck out of there. He flew into a blind panic because of those odds of survival and lack of any sort of upside or reward. Best case he goes back to prison, worst case he dies now, everything in between is pain and suffering.

Boomerang's death hit the hardest for me because he was one of my favorites from the first suicide squad, and I wanted to see more of him in this one, but it was also a moment where I realized anyone in the movie was fair game, even the favorites. Flagg was a very close second. That fight was very back and forth and you felt like he had a chance, and then it turned around. He did have a great last line before he died, though

Like it was "most families had a heroin addict" kind of bad. i honestly don't know if that was on purpose but Daniela Melchior (ratcatcher 2) is portuguese and would have been a kid right around that time

@@larrydube1302 it's mostly solved now. Around the year 2000 drug addiction started being treated as what it is (a health issue) instead of a criminal issue and that pretty much solved it. There was decriminalisation of possession for use and a lot of rehabilitation programs were introduced, as well as needle programs. Since then we went from a country with pretty serious drug problems to an example of what should be done around the world

I honestly thought Blackguard's death should rank much higher. Not because the method of death or the character were particularly interesting, but the impact it had. It was just BAM in a split second this man went from talking to half of his face gone. The movie was setting a tone about how now we are getting brutal and this is the base line of what you, the audience, should expect. Yeah, Weasel "died" first, but it was a funny and bloodless death. I was pissed that Captain Boomerang died so early. Him and Diablo were my favorite characters in the first one. Was very shocked that they just killed him 15 minutes in the movie.

Them being the distraction hinged on drawing all the fire away from Bloodsport's team. I think Waller made him think he WAS supposed to touch base with the military on the beach.

Yeah this is 100% my impression. A secondary distraction team would have been useless if the army didn't know they were there - both teams could have walked into patrols at the same time and the whole mission would be screwed. Waller absolutely needed the enemy to know they were coming, so that they would arrange to have all their forces in that one place at that one time. The best way to do that was to arrange for someone inside the team to appear to betray the mission. She probably told him it was all part of the plan, that they were there to get captured and the bomb would not go off because they're doing what they were told. Hell, maybe that even *was* the plan - get a bunch of people with bombs to hand themselves over, get taken inside the military base, then detonate them all, but someone in the army was trigger happy and so Waller improvised.

My impression was that blackguard actually improvised the plan, he seemed like a guy who knew how to charm people and con them into going along with whatever bullshit he could come up with. My guess is that he wanted the rest of the squad to stay hidden while he tricked the guards into thinking he was on their side. Guess we’ll never know for sure though

I gotta say, Pete Davidson's role gave me a serious case of the giggles. I don't know a lot about Blackguard, but Pete Davidson's role is to whine, joke around, and then immediately die with an idiotic act was so damn on brand. I didn't even hate the casting directors for casting a famously suicidal (at times) and depressed comedian in a movie with suicide in the title.

I think Rick Flagg's death was really felt, it was emotional and resonated really well, but it was done justice by how strong and dramatic it was. Polkadot however hit me much more, not because the death was dramatic and touching, but because of A, sheer investment in the character and potential, and B, it was just as the music started to swell, he finally gets his big moment, you get the "I'm a superhero" line, then just _s p l a t_
