Some good feedback I've been getting so far is that I've been rating these gags unfairly. And to summarize, it's because I decided to go with an approach where I end up ranking gags too low when I don't get the joke - and I missed a lot of the references in these older gags (Some of these episodes aired before I was born so it makes sense) BUT I do agree with you all that it's not giving these gags the respect they deserve - these gags are remembered fondly and im just kind of going "meh" because i don't get it So after giving it a bit of thought, I think I've found the solution. And it's basically that I've just been overthinking this ranking system. It really should just be a regular tier list where I put gags into A tier, B tier, etc. And there should be a specific tier for "gags I didn't get the reference to" so im not unfairly scoring them. I think that's the best solution moving forward. And continuing this series, I could go back and convert a 5.5 score to mean C tier kinda thing
@shoota211321 күн бұрын
You can change your approach if you continue this series but you should leave this one’s ratings as is for now, as it wouldn’t make sense to basically remake the video and have to give feedback on every gag again. I personally would enjoy if the rating system was whole numbers only (no decimal points like 5.3) and at the end of the season, you reveal your top 3 gags or something like that.
@0Lamp1317 күн бұрын
If I can give some feedback, there's a couple of moments in the video where a cutaway gag or rating is missing, like at 26:03 the shown cutaway is peter putting a woman in a puddle of mud, but the rated cutaway is peter peeping girls through a piece of wood while standing in the girls shower room, and at certain points there's no audio, like at 32:46 there's a cutaway, but no sound. I've found multiple instances of this happening, but only pointed to these for example.

Try not to let all comments get to you too much. It' a subjective thing, it's your list and others may disagree, which is fine, but it doesn't mean your opinions are less valid than theirs. People are always more likely to leave negative comments than positive ones. In other words, constructive criticism is always good to consider but at the end of the day, rankings come down to your own personal opinion and you don't need to change them in order to satisfy strangers in your comment section.

The Tom Hanks one doesn't seem like it's about Peter drinking because it wasn't originally about Peter drinking. Along with several other cutaway gags like "drive-by arguments," it was taken from Seth MacFarlane's RISD student film The Life of Larry and was originally just meant to show that "Larry" was stupid, not drunk (and why it's so dated as Philadelphia came out in 1993, 6 years before Death Has a Shadow aired)

10:58 they admitted that in the family guy video game. Jake is whining and Peter says see this is why you haven't been on the show in years, all you do is complain. And as someone who grew up loving Hanson, that really crushes me you don't know Ike, Taylor, and Zac. The reason the episode was banned was because of the Jewish humor especially because when Peter sang he originally said "even though they killed my Lord, i need a Jew.". That had to be changed to "i don't think they killed my Lord" to pass muster. And really saying the Brady Bunch is out of date? This was early Family Guy where they make tons of references to old tv like Charlie's Angels and Dukes of Hazzard. They admit it's their love of shows that's why the Family Guy logo has a tv as the i dot.

I like the concept of this video a lot, and I watched the whole thing. But I think you are really missing the mark on how good of a video / series could be. It’s hard to watch you not getting a reference and refusing to go look it up and give it context to potentially change the rating. I don’t enjoy the applying real world logic to a lot of the cutaways and then it gets rated low but also saying you like absurd ones because it’s a cartoon. It should all be based on how it’s a cartoon or not at all. I think the commentary of just explaining the joke comes off as a bit lazy. Or the worst is just missing the joke completely. 51:05 in particular, the joke to me is that she agreed to be in the show even though she knew they were making fun of her and she’s pretending to get her lawyer to sue family guy. Doing some research would help you tremendously. You could give your audience context to each cutaway that references something specific so everyone is on the same page instead of copping out by saying you just didn’t get it. You could look up each cutaway and see if there’s context you’re missing that will help you understand the joke they’re trying to make bc again it’s frustrating watching someone try to give commentary on something they don’t understand. It’s not a bad thing per se, it just shows you’re probably missing a lot. Overall I would like to see this series continue. I think you could give funny and interesting commentary about these cutaways if you put a little more effort on understanding the cutaway. I personally miss a lot of the references too and would love to see it compiled. I hope you continue this work and take the constructive criticism seriously.

You need to watch media from before you were born. It's honestly weird that you don't know who Sean Penn is.

No way you gave the first Giant Chicken fight scene a 5/10... it has to be at least 8/10.

The Jonbenet joke (the one where they tell him to drop the case) is in reference to a real unsolved murder. A common theory is that the parents were involved/responsible. Hence the joke.

Not sure if it's just me or if 32:37 to 32:57 sounds weird.

There's only the google doc spreadsheet. I ask for the tier list on TierMaker
@AverageJoeThoughts22 күн бұрын
TierMaker creation tool resets all your progress if you close/reopen the webpage. Can't save. It wasn't practical for me to make a tier list this big if I had to leave the same webpage open for months or I risk losing all my progress. I used a Google spreadsheet instead. The spreadsheet is the tierlist
@derpy268821 күн бұрын
@AverageJoeThoughts what? No it doesn't. Unless it's a single-use tier list, then yes.

hey man. i see you're getting a lot of comments pointing towards your ranking being unfair because you didn't understand a majority of the pop culture references, so i just want to say i'm in the same boat that you are, except i didn't even get some of the references that you did. either way i still personally think it's a fine ranking, especially because you prefaced the video with "just because you get the source material doesn't mean the joke is automatically funny", generally why i don't like referential humor even if i DO get what it's referencing (not to say you should ignore any of the feedback that you deem useful). i don't think people should be disqualified from talking about things they don't fully understand so you shouldn't be discouraged by all the comments implying otherwise, keep making what you want!

4:46 original and current. Also I think it's worth pointing out part of the joke could be that Fred never really had a catchphrase like the rest of the gang and Seth gave him one.
