Most amazing thing of all is how they managed to stay afloat being just about dead last every season for 20 years!

In his book Aussie Grit. Mark Webber said that his first visit to the Minardi Factory in Faenza was so small an F3000 team would barely be able to run out of it. So he realised just how amazing it was this team had survived as long as it had with so little resources.

To me, they have some of the best looking liveries especially during the late 80's to early 90's.

I've always been a Minardi fan, also because I live a few kilometres from the factory in Faenza. I've always thought that, instead of doing "Toro Rosso", "Alpha Tauri" or "Racing Bulls", Red Bull should make a deal with Giancarlo Minardi himself and run under the original name and colours: in my opinion, the amount of merchandise they would sell would be insane, along with all the buzz and nostalgia thing. What do u think?

To add to the M189 5th+6th at Silverstone, that was very important as the previous race Onyx had finished P5 in France, meaning they would have been out of pre-qualifying for the rest of the year, at Minardi's expense, but Minardi's 3 points took them out of pre-qualifying and Onyx back in, which would have been a nightmare for the team. Edit: This was the very next round after France that it happened, and due to the rules of it being halfway when teams in pre-qualifying could get out based on results (Brabham, Dallara & Rial did, and Larrousse took their place), and it wasn't a given to get out of the Friday morning sessions, Martin Brundle failed to pre-qualify twice, as teams would always use the extreme soft compound to try and make the qualifying proper on Saturday.
@Altern8One2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the fact that fucking Rial didn't needed to pre-qualifying instead of Onyx is a joke itself, especially when you realize how uncompetetive and unprofessional was the German team in that season...
@cribbe65472 жыл бұрын
@@Altern8One yeah that was criminal indeed. Pure reliability and a race of attrition got Danner 4th at Phoenix from dead last on the grid. In fact Rial only qualified one more time all season after Silverstone, and were always 29th or 30th for the remainder of the year. But such was luck. It's kind of a shame that Rial had such a poor 2nd year, in 88 with the ARC-1 the car was actually pretty good in the hands of de Cesaris, he should have scored many more points than the 3 he got. Gustav Brunner brought a lot of the designs for that car from the 1987 Ferrari (so the Rial was dubbed the 'Blue Ferrari'). Rial's problem was the volatile team principal Gunther Schmid, Brunner left the team midway through 1988 as they failed to pay him, and then they never updated the ARC-2 in '89, but Schmid never listened to his drivers, he used to do the car setups himself instead of them, which is insane when you think about it. There's some really fascinating teams from that period of F1 1983-92-ish, nowadays it's so hard to imagine given how 'clean and professional' the whole circus is.
@PEPSIMaxMusic Жыл бұрын
@cribbe in 88 they also had a stupidly small fuel tank, which often led to De Cesaris not finishing. This was worst at the Canadian GP when Andrea was running 3rd when he ran out of fuel.
@cribbe6547 Жыл бұрын
@@PEPSIMaxMusic that's right, though Gustav Brunner redesigned the car to have a larger tank from the halfway point of the season

Beautiful video, being Italian I am very happy that he made a video on the Minardi, if in 91 'the Minardi had had a change like the Ferrari one it would have made sparks as Martini and Morbidelli often retired for the change, if the team had had more luck who knows where it would be now

You gave several ‘B’ spec cars their own listings but not the M189B, M191B or M193B. The M02 had very good aero and was the first F1 car to run with a titanium gearbox but it was let down by its 1998-era motor which was underpowered and overweight. A good list overall.
