Ruben Dias has got to be the defender with the most impact on his first season ever in the 21st century. All of Man City's exits in the Champions League were to be blamed on their abysmal defences, and Ruben Dias came and got them STRAIGHT to their first UCL Semi Finals ever, and then Finals too! Went to another UCL Semi Finals next year, and then a Historic Treble the following year, keeping the Most No. of Clean Sheets in each competitions along the way! Rodri was much more important and the most imp. player in 2022/23 season, but from 2020/21 (when Dias was signed), I think his impact has been way higher till 2023/24 than Rodri. I honestly think the rankings should have been: 1) Ruben Dias: Best Defender itw since 2020. 2) Bernardo Silva: You wouldn't have won any big game without him. 3) Ilkay Gundogan: Most clutch Man City player ever. 4) Rodri: Most dominant & best player itw for the longest period, but wasn't world class before 2021/22.
@mozkebab82608 ай бұрын
@@vellaaatma4441 honestly respect your take and it is completely valid but the levels rodri is showing are quite simply mind boggling city's record with and without him should tell you enough but to be byy far the best in your position in the world and give historic all timers a run for their money is the level we are talking about here love ruben and think he gets a lot of stick by rival clubs who would kill to have him in their teams but rodri is undeniably the best player in the world rn, but as a 6 will never get his flowers

@@mozkebab8260 Also I genuinely can't remember a time when Rodri had a bad game, and this season Dias has actually had plenty unfortunately. No out and out howlers, but even when I only get a chance to watch the highlights, I always think that a Saliba or a van Dijk would've prevented that goal, whereas Dias has either lost his man or is at least the nearest defender, but can't stop a goal happening (It's not just his pace either). Has had a season or two of being world class, but now I think he's in that category just below, there's a reason he's not in anyone's world XIs these days

I don’t understand Jim’s opinion on Ake. Easily been the best LB in the PL for two seasons going, statistically a monster of a player. Arguably the player of the season for City behind Haaland and Rodri last year in a treble season. He’s overall been a better player than Akanji and Laporte, for example. He’s so underrated. I don’t understand why he gets slept on as a player. Is it literally just because he was signed from Bournemouth? While he’s obviously the greatest player we’ve ever had, I see him doing exactly what he does for us for City. Such a reliable tackler, dominant in the air, pops up with important goals. Completely controls the left flank defensively. I’d have thought Jim would be more of a fan tbh.

@@diabeetus_9837 Defensively all teams target Ake because he is the weakest point in city’s defence. Most games city lose go through him. Hes also a center back so he’s not great going forward. Robertson and Robinson are both superior going forward and more robust and quick players. Even Chilwell could do a job for city at left back.
@diabeetus_98378 ай бұрын
@@georgeskinner3217 I don’t agree with this. I’ve never noticed a pattern of teams targeting Ake at all, and if they did, it’s strange that Pep chose to start him in every important game, and even when not quite fit would often bring him on specifically for his defensive capabilities. City fans completely shit the bed every time he was injured last season lol, he was their best defender in the most important matches consistently. Sure, as an attacking left back he’s not the best of the best. But his partnership with Grealish was good, allowing him to stay up higher and not worrying about defending as much. I never claimed he was the best attacking left back, but I think his defending and role in the best team in the history of the PL, more than makes up for it to call him the best overall left back. Also, he’s got more goals than Robinson and still has a couple of assists. He has fewer unsuccessful touches and a higher pass accuracy (also bottom 3 in the city squad), implying once again that he’s safer on the ball and the last choice to be pressed in the defence. Robertson is obviously a better attacking left back than Ake, but that’s not the point I’m making. Defensively Ake shits all over Robertson. He rarely gets dribbled past, gives the ball away, is tackled, or loses aerial duels, as shown by stats. I don’t know what you’re watching if you think he’s a defensive weak link lol.

It doesn't matter if City sign players who aren't up to scratch, because of the financial doping involved. It just means they sell them back into the market or let them rot. This guy is actually agreeing this is the case as well from what he was saying about Doku. He's not even been at the club twelve months and he's hinting at getting rid of him, it's hysterical. Phillips' career was ruined at City as he didn't start a match until January after injury and apparently being overweight (Pep criticized him in the media), having signed him the summer just gone, and didn't start his first league match until the last home game of the season. How are footballers to prove their worth if they never start? Personally, I think he was bought just to fill the home grown quota, and was basically just used. Laporte was very good, but not a better centre back than Virgil, that is just laughable. He's now playing in the Saudi league at the age of 29, where the vast majority of players in this position are in their prime. Three of his five full seasons in the Prem, saw his appearances curtailed to playing no more than sixteen matches in any of them due to injury and bad form. Virgil is basically made of tougher and classier stuff. Sane is also not a better footballer than Saka. He was mentally fragile, and another example of City selling on as they didn't scout his personality properly. Saka has won two consecutive Arsenal player of the Season awards and is still improving. He took a pop at Kovacic and Torres, both are much better players than he makes out. This City fan is quite deluded and obviously just doesn't understand that most clubs cannot sell or discard their players, due to a temporary drop in form or any other reason. Sounds very entitled to me.

We're actually in a worse spot next season, after this one may as well have not happened. As much as I like Mahrez he should not be in most people's top 20 Premier league players of all time. Amazing player but terrible take
