I didn’t mind the abduction aspect because it makes it more bizarre and gives Kit a reason to end up in the asylum, and it has that added question of, “Did he imagine the abduction and actually harm his wife or did it actually happen?”... or maybe even the townsfolk harmed his wife and he used the alien abduction story as a way to cope with the trauma.

Freak Show is such an underrated season. It's so psychologically disturbing and creative with amazing characters and a nice vibe, beautiful location, amazing music, interesting storyline and an incredible ending. The ending is probably one of my favourite moments from the season; dare I say my favourite season finale. Beautifully done. I cried multiple times this season and it's the type of season I could rewatch a dozen times and not get tired of. It's my favourite season too, with Asylum coming in at second place; but out of all of them, this one holds a special place in my heart.

That crap was boring as hell 😂 the reason asylum was scary to me at the time was the demonic possession and when Lana was taken by bloody face. Had a strong Exorcist/Silence Of The Lambs vibe. Everyone has a different aesthetic and responds to different things. Asylum had a lot of psychological horror, body horror (a disfigured Chloe Savigny and the “children”), and pure classic horror like demonic possession. It definitely had a lot of scares if you respond to those kinds of horror elements. Over all, to me, Murder House, Cult, Hotel, and 1984 were not scary at all. Like AT ALL. Hotel is by far my least favorite season.

It's already confirmed to be a beach/coastal themed season. We got the cast reveal with ocean waves, and then a promo photo with a nest sitting near the ocean. I feel like a virus themed season right after this real world thing would be in very poor taste. Especially with as serious as this has gotten. When the people you turn to for help and assume have your best interests in mind, really want to see you hurt, suffering, and/or dead! Cult lowkey the most horrifying of them all. AHS & Stories seems to shine a light on gaslighting a lot. With metaphors to life in Hollywood and show business. Definitely deeper layers throughout their series. Kai Anderson before he went super nutty and weird was one of the best characters imo. Evan Peters fn delivers!

I don’t get why everyone seems to hate ‘cult’. It’s actually one of my favorite seasons, here’s why: 1. instead of being politically biased, it satirizes BOTH political sides and shows how ridiculous it is to take it seriously. 2. Another huge theme was how major institutions use fear to control society which I thought was very interesting and relevant to modern times. 3. I understand that the phobias in ‘cult’ weren’t scary for everyone, but I have one of the phobias that were portrayed so it was very terrifying for me personally to watch. 4. Finally, although very controversial, there was the Charles Manson scene. I thought the acting was absolutely amazing and I understand how some might think it was distasteful. But I love how chilling and truly scary they made it. With so many murders on the news everyday it’s easy to become desensitized, however the way this scene was shot made me realize how actually horrific these murders were in a way that I haven’t felt in a long time. Edit: and let’s not forget Evan Peters smearing Cheetos on his face - that was iconic

They just include every single batshit crazy idea and don't know when to stop or focus in on stuff. Like, idk, they could've focused on the actual horrors of being in an asylum back then but instead added demonic possession, Anne Frank, aliens, a halocaust doctor, a serial killer doctor, those weird mutant creatures they were feeding that we never got an answer about, and by the end I just didn't care anymore. I wish they'd cut half of that out and fleshed out the plot of a few of those ideas so I could actually get attached to the characters and the story.

For me Roanoke is one of the best, if not the best, season. It was the first time in a while that I was actually shocked and legitimately creeped out. What stood out to me was the narrative twist of first having a re-enactment of the haunting with in-story actors playing ghosts, and later on having the actual ghosts appear. I'll always cherish Kathy Bates' batshit performance as "The Buuuutcheeerrr" and how her character revels in that gruesome role, only to meet the ACTUAL Butcher, who is nothing like her grandstanding, dramatic persona. Nah, just a burly, disfigured, pissed-off ghost lady and Kathy takes a cleaver to the head in almost nonchalant fashion. That dichotomy between the "corporate-creepy" Reenactment ghost stuff and then the actual, horribly brutal, but also very understated and merciless ghost stuff will always be something I appreciate. It's very creative and I think it partially pokes fun at AHS's tendency to be a little bit pretentious in their gore. Like, Hotel was SOOOO over the top horror-focused and gory to an almost artistic degree that Roanoke's latter half of grounded horror violence felt like a shock to me. The whole Reenactment Angle was just really brilliant to me. Down to even the "Hollywood Ugly" vs. "Real World Ugly" thing where, sure, Kathy Bates plays a lovely older lady done up in ugly make up to be a horrible Butcher Ghost, but real Butcher is just heinous to look at. Same with Scathach being portrayed by Lady Gaga in the reenactment and her real version being nothing like a "slightly muddy pretty lady".

In regards to newer cast members, I like the additions of Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Wes Bentley was particularly good in Freak Show, Cody Fern killed it in Apocalypse, and Billie Lourd shone in 1984.

I love Jessica Lange, she is a force of nature! The Name Game in Asylum destroys me every time I see it. Such a great scene, so full of joy but it's so heartbreaking and not quite right too. I found the opening credits of Coven the hardest to watch, not sure why but it always freaks me out. I do have a soft spot for Freak Show though 😄

i think you're right about the whole 'ryan murphy makes death transparent so when people actually die its more jarring' thing because i know when i was watching 1984, ray killing that frat boy really shook me up and he was just a minor character. same with adelaide in murder house, her death was so much more sad than any other because she didn't die at the house and come back as a ghost.

I just watched Roanoke last night and was pleasantly surprised by it. For the first part, the framing device (the documentary) removed the stakes as you knew that anyone being interviewed had to survive, but the second part was a fun switch up, with good tension, surprises and hilarious moments. Kathy Bates and Sarah Paulson were deep in their bags, as always. Really solid season.

i really loved hotel. it’s my fave ahs season.. characters were great and evan peters and sarah paulson were AMAZING! oh and we can’t forget Denis O’Hare playing Liz Taylor.. his best role in ahs. I think that the hotel created a really creepy and anxious atmosphere.. they did a really good job. Oh and the plot twist in the middle of the season.. that was so so smart and unexpected!! i loved it. Fave season of AHS

I actually really liked Apocalypse. I did spoil myself before I watched it, like I knew the Coven witches and Langdon came back, but I didn't know the whole plot. I enjoyed it a lot coming back to the past seasons. Seeing Jessica Lange again is absolutely a plus as well. I think a cool idea for a future season would be to take inspiration from Hellraiser; I think it'd make for a cool season

Hotel is my absolute FAVORITE season, just the aesthetic was so exciting. I felt like it took a whole new level of horror for American horror story and made me actually disturbed and horror never seems to do that anymore so considering that this is easily my favorite. SO underrated and I wish people could appreciate it. Cult is another favorite, I loved the middle and ending not so much the beginning. BUT Roanoke SUCKED soooo badly. I was so disappointed and I really feel like that is where American horror story went down hill

Hotel probably falls at #4 or #5 for me because as much as I love the aesthetic and horror (plus Lady Gaga I mean WOW) the detective storyline is very slow and I feel like it takes away from the show. The reason that Ryan Murphy recycles the whole being a ghost and not being able to leave the house or the land that you die at is because every season of American horror story is linked together and take place in the same universe so if you die at murder house in season one or at the camp in 1984 is because ever season is linked

I liked Roanoke a ton when I first saw it and couldn't understand why so many people kept calling it the worst season. I'm glad to see some love for it here, I think it's probably the scariest season. I liked how it played with two different styles of story telling that complemented each other very well because the actual shit going down in Roanoke was far, far scarier and horrific than the dramatized television documentary made it out to be.

I know you’re stating your opinions and I understand that and am open to listen to. But I also want to state my own opinions too. I really love American horror story and each season, I love the elements that are displayed throughout. From the subtlety and suspense to the creativity and twisted scenes. I’ll even say that my favorite season is 1984, I love the 80s theme and how it’s shoved down our throats, but also the creative twists, suspense, and Richard Ramirez is awesome as a character. murder house will always be my favorite, especially after apocolypse had came out explaining how tate langdon was the houses “pawn.” i also grew interested in coven (only after rewatching it since it’d been years) as i loved the theme, it was extremely messed up though and scenes made me uncomfortable. i also wish they’d carried out kyles character and what’d happened to him in apocalypse.

Murder house make me feel like time is endless while i watching it in the beginning but i got hooked more and more depending on being closer to the end. Asylum hooks me from the second episode but watching the last two episodes was definitely a waste of my time, it should be ended after police catched their maniac, everything after were dumb like Kits girla killed his second girla over no reason and then died from insanity, and Lana killed her son, those two lines was so dumb and totally unnecessary. Other stuff that were necessary could be placed in like 20 minutes or one episode when it tooks three.

To me, Roanoke was the SCARIEST nightmare fuel, trauma, horrifying, phobia inducing season ever haha 💀💀💀 When you’d think “ugh! YES! Finally- a way out!” -BOOM! someone either dies in a inhumane way, someone gets trapped, OR it’s just sad and MIND/EMOTIONAL fucking. Haha 💀💀 It had me laughing, crying and just feeling the MOST with EVERY ep. Coven was my fav. The History; Slavery/ Voodoo, Witchcraft~ hit me at home being someone of color, so it wasn’t much scary and more so informative and educational, lol. … and the rest were good but never gave me as many chills and feels as Roanoke did. I felt like it was NEVER gonna end 🤣

84 is intentionally camp, and I love everything about it because of that. I love cheesy 80s horror; Sleepaway Camp is a classic for a reason, so it was a great idea and was pretty excellent in execution!
