thank you for your analysis! a few things i would like to note: 1) xiba did not give leixia her dvapara yuga necklace. according to the artbook leixia has another, younger brother named leixin and HE was the one who gave it to her. the artbook says that leixia and xiba dont meet until after leixia and natsu start traveling together. xiba and maxi save the two from "monsters" and then they all start traveling together. 2) project soul makes absolutely no attempt at highlighting this but in the back of the artbook there is a glossary that defines what "werewolf" means. apparently, "werewolf" is historically a term that has been used to describe people who are considered enemies of the state. they are forced to live their lives on the run because it has been deemed as legal for anyone, soldier or civilian, to kill them on sight. and because those people have to live in hiding, they often spend their time in forests away from civilization. and they end up all hairy and dirty because of a lack of access to hygiene. so they resemble werewolves when you look at them. zwei is in the lore deemed as an enemy of the state because prior to the events of sc5 he had led a rebellion against graf dumas that ended in zwei being lynched on graf dumas's orders. which is also why in the sc5 story we can see that zwei has his own personal grudge against graf dumas. this is actually why i think zweis 2p outfit does really good visual storytelling. zwei was said to have fallen in with other outlaws, and i feel like that outfit reflects that well. he has a noose hanging from his belt in that outfit which i feel is very symbolic of how he carries his status as a wanted enemy of the state. it also is a bit of a "show dont tell" situation because all it says is that he was lynched, but the fact that he has that noose could imply that he was hanged for his "crimes". i personally prefer his 2p outfit but i think something that could have been a big improvement for his 1p is if he had rope scars across his neck to carry the symbolism over

man its so rare to find people who don’t hate the SC5 kids and actually view them with objectivity and nuance, thank you for that. i miss pyrrha so much, really hope they bring her back in a future game. 9:22 funny that you mention this because its exactly how i feel about seong mi-na’s sc6 outfit/art book blurb, she’s described as a tomboy but they somehow decided a *pink floral motif and bikini underboob* conveys this 💀

I feel like since SC4, the 3D designs haven't done a lot of the concept art justice. Looking at Xiba for example, he has a much more expressive face and much more wild and interesting hair style in the art than in the model.

I've noticed in a couple of the Soul entries there's been two versions of the same character as separate playable roster slots such as Zazalamel/Abyss & Seigfried/Nightmare & Patrokolos/Alpha & Pyrrha/Omega & I guess also Cervantes/Souledge in the first PS1 game somewhat though I think Souledge is more the prototype of Inferno I dunno. And I guess also Nightmare & Night Terror as well.

Long time viewer, first time commenter! It's a little thing, but there's a detail about Xiba's 1P outfit that I'm fond of: the back of his jacket has the character for Kong (孔) on it. I think it's a safe guess that, for all intents and purposes, Xiba isn't a Chai for the same reason Xianghua isn't a Kong. That and New Legends of Project Soul does refer to Kong Xiuqiang as Xiba's adoptive parent at one point. (I could go on all day...) Looking at the concept art again, I kind of wish the scar on his chin had been on the character model. I think it adds to the feral child vibe. @9:55 - About the kinkoji pattern... That took me quite a bit of digging, but it looks like it's based on Sun Wukong's circlet! If Japanese Wikipedia hasn't steered me wrong, it's written like so: 緊箍児. To be fair, half the trouble was finding the dang kanji to begin with, and there does happen to be a citrus hybrid by that name. (You can guess which of those Google brought up first.) To close this out: a request for a Palette Swap on Xianghua if she isn't already on the docket. Keep up the good work! (Edited for typos.)
