If JLC is lacking anything, it certainly isn't "soul." They do a great job with their activations and exhibits, engaging sales staff, customization options, and a collection of pieces that range from the attainable to the insane. All of this, added to their heritage and that special feeling you get wearing a Reverso when everyone else at the restaurant has a Rolex on, for me, adds up to a lot of soul. Additionally, I've only ever had the most amazing experience in any Richemont boutique I've walked into-Vacheron, JLC, Panerai, IWC, Cartier, Lange-all superb. Omega is friendly but staffed by salespeople as opposed to knowledgeable ambassadors, and Rolex are just... the absolute worst.

As I watched your video, an idea came to mind: This might be the video I could share with people, when they are beginning their watch journey. It was close, but it didn't make the cut. It might be worth it sharing why. Whenever I start exploring a new --for me-- activity or hobby, I try to identify the point of diminishing returns. This helps me get started in the new activity (or hobby), while trying to avoid spending my money on something that is too cheap, but bad quality; or too expensive for the money. To give you some examples. A microphone to record audio at home? A Sennheiser e835. An audio interface to go with that? A Focusrite Scarlett Solo. A headphone? A Sennheiser HD600. A camera for photos and video? A Sony Alpha 6100. Leather shoes? Thurdayboots. Sure, you could buy something cheaper, or more expensive, but these items were --for me-- a great starting point. If I see that the new activity/hobby is here to stay, I might buy a Sennheiser MKH 50 microphone, or a Sony Alpha 7R V camera, or KOIO leather sneakers, or TLB Mallorca leather shoes. All these are higher-price options that, while more expensive and better quality, are still not the highest price/quality, because of the point of diminishing returns. Sure, if you want luxury items, that's another story. For context, I am writting from Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico. In my little micro-cosmos, most people I interact with use a smart watch (Apple, or other brand). People who do wear traditional watches, use some of the brands you mentioned --like Seiko or Tissot-- but also, many other brands you did not mention in your Tier List video. If in your video you had mentioned these other brands (which people in my area are familiar with), I would have bookmarked it, in order to share it. I think your video could have helped many new commers identify that "point of diminishing returns" (read Tissot, Seiko, Hamilton). It would have been a way to help them make better use of their money, when purchasing their first watch. These are the brands you did not mention, that people in my little microcosmos speak about: Citizen, Timex, Bulova, Orient, Casio (G-Shock). A brand I had never heard of, but many people here buy: Fossil (probably not worth mentioning --too localized). So that's my comment, for what is worth. I decided to take the time to sit down and write, because I've been meaning to leave a note to tell you that I do enjoy you silly jokes and no, I won't unsubscribe. When I got into cameras, KZbin flooded my feed with male-dominated channels. Same story when I got into audio. Funny enough, after getting a pair to Thursday Boots low-top tobacco leather sneakers, my wife started to shop around for some boots. She searched KZbin for the Rebel model and found nothing! We need more female KZbin channels for cameras; for audio; for reviewing female Thursday Boots; for watches; for everything. Thank you for what you do. I'm a fan.

The only exception that I feel strongly about is Rolex in the “Perfektenschlage” category. Some of their recent designs have been…um…a bit rough (cough, cough…yellow gold). Britt, you tier list gets my view because I like your approach. The rest of the high-end watch channels rarely get my time. OK, I'm exposing myself to being called a _poor_ by saying this, but the only brands listed here that I own are Seiko and Tissot, and the only ones that have any real appeal to me are Longines (which I am planning as a present to myself for my upcoming 65th birthday), Tudor (for my 70th), and Omega (if I reach 75). For me, and for probably thousands of people who consume watch collecting content on KZbin, top-tier has to be populated by watches that real people who don't have essentially endless money can buy without seriously damaging their financial future. Most of my watches are Orient or Citizen, and I own a handful of "homage" brands. There's no way I could ever justify spending several thousand on a watch when there are so many great-looking watches that can be had for under $500 US any day of the week. I realize acknowledgement and exclusivity appeal to many people, but for me it's all about wearing a watch I like. Nobody I care about pays any attention to the watch I'm wearing anyway.

My biggest disagreement is somehow Seiko. Wunderbar IMO. They just do what they do and do it fantastically.

You criticize Lange for their customer experience then put Rolex at the top! Save Rolex for flexers, not watch enthusiasts ;-)

Britt, you left out both Casio and Citizen, two of the bestselling, most innovative, most value-packed watch brands (Citizen has the world’s most exact autonomous movement.). Yet, you included indies making few watches for few people. On average, Grand Seiko watch cases are only 1mm thicker than Rolex, due to movements like the Spring Drive, which require more space. A tradeoff many will happily accept, preferring innovation to stagnation. Meanwhile, Grand Seiko quartz watches are significantly thinner than anything Rolex offers.

Rolex as the top tier? You marked ALS down for the customer experience at boutiques, yet put Rolex, the brand with arguably the worst buying experience, for let’s face it are fairly average watches, at the top of the tree? Really? 🙄
@louislaw853 күн бұрын
The ranking is so inconsistent. Do you consider the brands heritage or just the performance this year. Cos you're ranking patek based on heritage and breitling based on this year's releases. Also, Christopher ward has no place being so high up.

I have a Nomos and I completely agree with your ranking system. I have a Sinn watch too and I broke it within 4 days of getting it 😭. That’s why I have a Mühle Glashütte SAR RT to be my “tank watch” that can take a beating …and keep on ticking. I think you should add Mühle to next year’s ranking. They do have some stunning designs 🤩.

My own tier list is definitely a bit different from yours but I definitely share a love for IWC! Put Rolex in the “mid” tier and Breguet in “wunderbar” our tier lists would line up pretty decent!

Honestly, it is really impressive how you nailed brands up to Longines so far. You are the first one to get them all right for me. Yes AP is too monotonous, yes I also heard these stories about A lange (there is a HUGE A Lange collector in a forum called „uhrforum“ in Germany and you SIMPLY can’t imagined how they treated a customer who must have spent millions on their watches and should be considered THE biggest fan (he even bought camera equipment specifically to take adequate close up shots of their movements and he got the private phone number and talks from time to time with the A. Lange CEO, his username is of course A. lange), yes you got it spot on with IWC (so underrated by most!). I will continue with the video now 🤓. Edit: Rolex should be lower but I will ignore that position because fangirl is fangirl 😂 Edit 2: GS should be higher! Yes, I ignored them too much too, yes I thought the same about their bracelets and their designs but the you have to try them out a 2nd time. And appreciate their handwork, their meticulous work on dials, packaging, polishing, movement quality and you will understand why the GS community is so unforgiving. Everybody who ranks GS too low just didn’t understand the brand yet similar to IWC right now (which you already ranked higher). Edit 3: yes JLC and conglomerates is kind of a problem sometimes. I think you see it with Omega, JLC, the whole LVMH group etc. They make good stuff but often lack the hype factor (while Omega is kind of an exception for me because they still make one of the coolest watches on the market, biggest critique point as you mentioned is thickness and the AT micro adjustment which is simply terrible …) Edit 4: BREITLING MID! Nah this is definitely a huge miss! Their catalog is amazing and yes I would spend 10k alone on their Titanium Chronomat which is awesome. From Navi to chronomat to SOH their modes are so unique and cool. Miss here! Edit 5: why Chopard so high?! Edit 6: saves yourself with Cartier (which one I am wearing right now). Because Hublot also gets too much hate. I also jumped on the hate train but once I visited their boutique the first time in Florida Miami I was amazed. They are more for their visual appearance but Hublot also does much with looking into new materials and got a crazy taste in design. Hublot is too much bullied.

Perfect assessment of Tudor. I’m a huge fan and overweighted on Tudor but bullseye on your evaluation. Lotsa upside potential there with dial color and new model releases. 😊

Breitling... I think Breitling got the best watches on the market for 10K. Toptime, Navitimer, Premier. Soo good! I would go for the 43mm Navitimer with copper dial. ❤️

German speaker here...the way you say A. Lange & Söhne is OK but "Perfektenschlage" does not really make sense 🤷🏻♂️ Speaking of not making sense, you devalue ALS for the shopping experience but not Rolex? 🤔 Edit: I can very well see myself carrying hypothetical 10 grand pocket money to a Breitling boutique!! 😍
@BrittPearceWatches3 күн бұрын
Haha! Perfektenschlage is a made up word from "the Office US" :) - but no - ALS was de-valued because of their servicing reputation aaaaand flagship boutique experience. I didn't share what happened - but it was actually worse (BOTH TIMES) than the worst Roelx stories I ever heard lol. I won't share anymore! But - I actually cannot emphasise how horrible these experiences were. It wasn't just like "ugh! They made me feel small or laughed at me for asking for a Daytona". It was... Like... Exceptionally bad.

Actually, just to shock the people at the Swatch boutique. Take you 10 grand there and buy everything they have in the shop.😂

ALS is the only brand who had the gall to fuck up servicing your watch (e.g missing moon phase indicator, scratched up movement, etc) and then blame it on you.

@irfanmakki41052 күн бұрын
Lol - you're just a Rolex homer. What has Rolex done this past year to deserve top rating? No recent track record of innovation, no new novel releases and a consistently inaccessible inventory for regular folks who, unlike you, don't have the spend history to be offered one - Rolex is mid at best. And this is coming from an owner of two modern rolexes. And Nomos at that rating? Yeah, I get it. You were offered a watch by then for free but come on now, Nomos is not deserving of that rating as they have just been very uneventful lately.

Oh Brit, you had(notice past tense) such cred! Passion, knowledge, opinion. I may disagree, but I respect. Until you put Rolex top tier. Really? Because they dominate? That's not horology. That's masterful marketing. It's like the Soup Nazi in NYC. They abuse you, and you believe you love it. Cred diminished. Sorry.
