I said I would rank 2023 in the comments so here we go 😂 I think the best place for this would be right after 2020. As far as what we have gotten in 2023 so far, they aren’t as bad as 2020 when we literally only got seasons and clan wars 2.0, but the updates were also misses. I’ll try and explain what I didn’t like, but I haven’t played much lately tho so sorry if I have no idea what I’m on about Lmao. Losers update - the daily season token cap is wild and the fact that they thought we would ever play 2v2 again without crowns and chest is hilarious, 75% of the time I only log on for 2v2 😂 All the items in the season shop were also way too expensive at the time of the update. The grand challenge change was awful, half the gems to enter but now you needed to do 2x the matches to get the same rewards, LOL! $12 for a pass in a mobile game is ridiculous. Fortunately some of these changes have been fixed, but overall, could have been much, MUCH better. Card evolution update - honestly I have the least knowledge of this one because I haven’t played much lately. But based what I can see so far, evolutions are okay but the shards are overpriced and the evolved cards seem to have balancing issues (or so ive heard). I honestly don’t understand the level 15 stuff tho, the majority of my cards are at or below 13 😂😂 i don’t usually care about having my cards max, I just get on to have fun. You know, even tho there are changes that we all disagree with, I hope the updates do turn out to be worth it in the end after some fixes, and I hope there’s a banger update that will surprise us all. I love clash royale and I’m always hopeful that the team will do a 180 on their mistakes.

2016 will always hold a soft spot for me. I remember getting both the Lumberjack and Princess in the same day at lunch in high school, and the whole table popped up from their seats in excitement. A lot of people in school played Clash Royale and legendaries still felt special.

Man I remember those days, I started playing late 2016, and my first legendary was an inferno dragon from a free chest. I was so hyped from that, I threw it in any deck I made lol. A lot of my friends were playing the game at the time, and it was very popular at my school. It felt amazing to make friends through this game because we could all be in a clan together, and get to know everyone. Oh the memories I've made...

Yeah ik I spent forever trying to get a legendary but never got one since I'm f2p I got my first legendary years later on a different account on which i didn't have id so I don't have the account now but my first legendary was night witch and on my current account my first one was miner

Clash Royale was very different during its early years, people were extremely excited about getting legendaries, wish i would have experienced seeing people pop off when seeing a live legendary in school, mine never happened that lots of people played. There was certainly a magic and essence in the game during those years that people were hyped about, those were certianly the golden years of the game

I can relate so badly, I remember my first legendary being sparky, and when I got it from a magical chest in my elementary school, I got so hyped and so did my friends, it was such a flex back then

Once pass royale was released that was peak, being able to finally upgrade your cards fast and no game breaking cards and not seeing the same deck every game was perfect

The couple days after 2v2 came out we're the best times I've ever had in CR. Those memories I will forever treasure playing 2v2 with school friends.

Tournaments were my favorite update probably because of nostalgia. The design was pretty bad but it felt like communities would come together to stream and host big tourneys

Man do I now wish to play a few more games of cw1. That was my most loved gamemode, especially that you had to create your deck out of a limited card pool while considering the levels you had on each card. The only "bad" thing I remember about it was that your card levels were also a limiting factor. And I remember that I had a CRAZY winstreak in the war attacks (not the collection attacks) of something like 50 wins.

I loved the old cr which was simple and not as pay to win where we got ahead using strategy and skill now it's so pay to win and anyone can get ahead with just money Edit: everyone is saying it was more pay to win in 2016 as it was much harder to get legendaries but just ask yourself what is stronger an impossibly rare but balanced legendary(in comparison to today) or an evolved royal giant?

TBf old CR was more pay to win, £40 per super magical chest for a low chance of a legendary… now I get like 3 per season for free and I barely even play 😂

As someone who started early 2016, man was 2017 packed I still remember playing 2v2 until the last hours, touchdown in the clan and the new electroarena.

Why i think 2017 was the best year: (not only because that's when i started playing) The game was still simple, it had a lot more things that it did in 2016 but still it was understandable, and just as funny. Legendaries were fairly easy to obtain, not as impossible as 2016 but still felt exclusive, you still felt something when getting one. Clan chest was still there, which was everyone's favorite clan feature, right? Then there's quests, probably not as famous, but also funny, simple, and actually rewarding. It wasn't that much p2w, and probably the only problem were some unbalanced cards at the time. y'all can lmk if i got something wrong or what you think

I think 2021 is the golden age of clash royale with it blowing up on tiktok and having some amazing updates, the only downside in 2021 was the slash royale scam which I can forgive them for since they compensated the players back then.

If I had to choose a year of CoC to go back to I think I’d stay in 2023. There’s been so many amazing updates and quality of life updates that I wouldn’t give up just for some nostalgia.

Years ranked 8 : 2023 (i know the year hasn't ended but is bad) 7 :2020 (i think you know why) 6 : 2022 (i love Masteries and banners were cool but not as good as the others) 5 : 2018 (is lower because i loved the clan chest, star level are super cool and more emotes is just great but i kinda lost interes in the year, is a great year) 4 : 2016 (tho i didn't play in 2016 it semes cool and a lot of chests, cards and multiple arenas is chef's Kiss) 3 : 2019 (my boy Goblin Cage released, trophy road is a amazing update, the old pass is peak, the party mode is great, and the free tower skin is nice and who remembers the OP executioner overal is amazing) 2 : 2021 (my Clash Royale peak , Magic items made me play Clash Royale more than i used to, the gold crates are great, the new arenas are cool, Champions were way to OP , so my 2nd favourite year) 1 : 2017 (the year that i started Clash Royale and the best in my opinion, we got 2v2 , 3 new chests, Quests were amazing, touchdown was good tho overhyped , leauges are an amazing feature, the cards released were great except the mega Knight, the experience back in the good old days of 2017 were different than today so this is my favourite year)
