@@saggxnoah1979 at least the hd version is great. Only version I’ve played with stick controls. It was probably my favorite gaming experience ever. The music and story helps a lot but the gameplay constantly kept me hooked too. It’s just a great experience.

Twilight Princess is by far my favorite Zelda Game, It has a great feel to it that no other Zelda game has, I actually like the slow start, everything in Twilight Princess just perfect.

Finally found someone who doesn't have BotW as #1. The game is groundbreaking, but I gotta be honest, it gets really tedious sometimes, especially if you go through the game multiple times like I did.

I find most open world games suffer from the same issue: A LOT of busy work. The “moments” in BotW are jaw dropping. Discovering the Ancient Beasts for the first time is breathtaking. That said, it can be a slog to get through.

Honestly it’s super hard for me to rank these, especially the 3D ones as I feel each of them are incredible in their own way. So id just put them all in S lol. Ocarina has the best dungeons and is an overall classic. Majoras mask is weird and creepy with some of the best characters, and I love the transformation masks. Windwaker has the best art style and music. Twilight princess has great dungeons, Midna is amazing, and I love the feel of it. Skyward sword also has very solid dungeons, and fantastic music and characters. Breath of the wild is an awesome adventure and is a game I always return back to just to explore. It’s impossible to rank them they’re all perfect 😂

You have awesome taste when it comes to art styles! Wind waker & link’s awakening for switch have the most charming designs of the entire series in my opinion! I’ve never understood people’s disdain for these game’s looks in particular. I’ve always been attracted to games with more of a whimsy & stylized approach to visuals, it keeps things fun & fresh!

You hit the nail on the head with BotW I couldn’t quite put my finger on it why I wasn’t liking it as much upon a second play and it really was that it doesn’t hit the same. I got it as soon as it came out in 2017 and played it all day and everyday and was so excited to find new things in it and it was truly an amazing experience but upon trying to play a second time I don’t feel compelled to want to sit down and play again

ALTTP was brutal in the later dungeons. I had to stop mid dungeon cus I missed an item to progress or ran out of mana, or needed more fairies. But I think it holds up incredibly well

tbh I’ve really tried to get into Majora’s mask. Twilight Princess is my favorite zelda game largely due to it’s dark atmosphere, so I thought I’d love majora’s mask, but the one thing that I really have never liked about Majora’s mask is the 3 day cycle mechanic. It just always gives me anxiety and gets in the way of me enjoying it as much as I could without it. I respect the game and subjectively that mechanic makes it unique but I just personally can’t get past it.

Thanks for putting Phantom Hourglass and Spirit tracks in B. PH might even be in A on my favorites tier list. Both underrated. I recently beat Skyward Sword HD and it has to be a B for me. Everything is great but the open world and pacing really bring it down for me. I would probably put Majoras’s in S. Recently finished Link’s awakening for the first time on the switch. You know the game is good when you start it back right after you complete it. I’ve done 100% normal and hero mode back to back. A true masterpiece!

There are some parts about the remake that I think the original did better, but overall the remake is so much cleaner and the soundtrack is beautiful. The core story and gameplay is just the best 2D action-adventure you can get in my opinion.

I haven’t played every Zelda, but I just wanted to give my list ranking the Zelda games I’ve played. 10. The Adventure of Link - I think this game gets a lot of hate just because it doesn’t play like any other Zelda game, but I kind of like that about it. It’s so different that it becomes memorable. It’s only my least favorite because I suck at it 9. The Legend of Zelda - One of the greatest games of all time and my favorite NES game. Only reason it’s not higher is because it is extremely difficult to navigate without a guide 8. A Link to the Past - I only beat this game for the first time last year and I was honestly underwhelmed because people had hyped it up to be the best Zelda game ever and I just didn’t agree. The story is good, it plays well, it’s absolutely beautiful visually… but I was forced to use a guide once I got to the Dark World because I couldn’t figure out how to get through the dungeons. The guide just took me out of the experience enough to knock it down a few ranks 7. Twilight Princess HD - This might just be the strangest Zelda game ever. Majora’s Mask is probably also a contender for that title, but I haven’t played it yet so I don’t know. But this game is strange and it’s great because of that. I like the more detailed art style they went with for Twilight Princess and it helps sell the darker tone of the game. The music also does a great job of setting the tone. 6. A Link Between Worlds - It’s short. It’s cute. It’s pretty easy. I could beat this game without a guide so that was fun. I love the wall-merging mechanic since it makes a lot of the puzzles really interesting. The game is just charming and I love it. 5. Oracle of Seasons - First of all, no, I haven’t played Oracle of Ages yet, but I’ll get to it. Second, this game is amazing. I love the puzzle mechanic of changing the seasons to change the terrain. I love the story and the world and the music. I love the rideable characters you meet that add a little bit of replayability. And I love the rings that give you different perks when equipped. It’s just such a unique game out of the ones I’ve played and it has a special charm to it. 4. Minish Cap - It’s short. It’s cute. It’s pretty easy-I said this already. The Minish Cap has my favorite art style of any Zelda game (even though it’s just a GBA take on the Wind Waker’s Art style). Everything is so vibrant and colorful. The Minish are adorable and the ability to shrink and grow is very fun. I like trading kinstones with the characters to unlock certain things and using shells to get the figures from the minigame. I just think it’s a very cute game and I happen to like cute games 3. The Wind Waker HD - This was the first Zelda game I played. I was 13 and I got the money to buy a Wii U that came with this game and the Hyrule Historia book as free downloads. I spent entire months just playing through the Wind Waker and trying to get everything I could. I went to every island I could see. I got as many treasure charts as possible. I liked going back to the auction house to get items. I tried (and mostly failed) to get to the ghost ship. I also watched the GameGrumps playthrough of the game while I played, so it felt like I was playing alongside a friend. Just so many great memories of playing this game for the first time 2. Breath of the Wild - It’s Breath of the Wild. Everyone knows it’s amazing. Open world, endless possibilities, endless fun. Even though it’s my number two, I think you’d have to be crazy to say that this isn’t the best Zelda game. The only reason it’s not my favorite is because of nostalgia for another game 1. Ocarina of Time 3D - This was the first Zelda game I ever saw someone play and the reason I got into the series. I was 11 years old and a friend from school was playing this on their 3DS. I had no idea what it was, it just looked fun. I thought Link was the coolest character ever with the Master Sword and the Hylian Shield. I started to main Link in Smash because of watching my friend play OoT. Then when I was 12, a band student from my school arranged a medley of songs from the Zelda games that I got to play with the school orchestra for a concert. That furthered my love for the series I still had yet to play. I was 13 when I finally got Ocarina of Time for the 3DS and it was everything I wanted it to be. It has beautiful visuals, smooth controls, incredible music, a great story, and memorable characters. I loved it so much I 100% completed it. And then I did it again. And then I did it one more time. It was the first game I ever 100% completed and still one of the few that I’ve ever completed. I love a lot of games from a lot of different companies, and my top 10 favorites typically depend on my mood. But Ocarina of Time 3D has never fallen outside of my top 10 favorite games of all time. Having played both ALTTP and OOT for the first time recently with no nostalgia bias, I can honestly agree with your ranking of both. ALTTP is waaaay overhyped for what it is imo. In the historical context I understand its significance and how it set the formula, and at times it was enjoyable! But as an experience, it hasn't aged well, basically every iteration based on its foundation has surpassed it. It makes sense, that's how it should be, but it doesn't stop the game from feeling aged. OOT, on the other hand, has aged like fine wine. Once you adjust to the dated visuals and control scheme, the actual content feels timeless. I had a blast playing it - despite being hyped as the best game of all time, it actually exceeded my expectations. ALTTP had some fun dungeons, but OOT's puzzles felt innovative and creative even in 2020. It's not the top of my personal list, but it's close.

@@tristanneal9552 Massively disagree. If anything has aged poorly, it's OoT. The world is sparse and almost entirely empty, with very little content, like interesting sidequests, which is even more noticeable in replays. The dungeons are also incredibly linear and easy, with The Water Temple being the only exception. The dungeons aren't complex overall, and eve the individual room puzzles are nothing to write home about. It's important, it's innovative and it's a good game, but the controls and visuals are incredibly dated, and everything else about the game has been improved in subsequent 3D Zeldas. ALTTP, on the other hand, has aged like a fine wine, in my opinion.

I think it has the best story in a zelda game too, to me it's a deep story, super interesting and fun, but people underestimate it because it's chibi style, they think is childish compared to the other games. I'm sure that if they gave it a chance they'll love it

If possible, try playing Four Swords Adventures with friends! I actually find this game to be a hidden gem amongst the Zelda’s, as it’s right between being 3D and 2D. The puzzles are quite difficult at times, and while the game can be a drag if you’re playing it solo, I’ve always found the co-op aspect to be extremely fun depending on who you’re playing with. Four Swords and Four Swords Adventures offer something special to the table, but only if you’re playing with friends, because that’s what those games focus on.

@@GameEssays I understand. That is definitely the biggest issue with the four swords games- accessibility. Multiplayer gameplay doesn’t matter much if nobody is around to play it, because four player requiring 5 systems, four link cables, and the game itself is kind of insane. I’d say it’s about time we got a four swords adventures switch port, where everyone has that shared screen unless you yourself enter a dungeon, and you’ll get that little screen on your switch. Or something. It’s just a shame such a cool idea matched with equally cool puzzles was paired with the most inconvenient setup possible for a Zelda game. Thanks for the reply!

I don't agree with Twilight Princess' start. I enjoy the beginning of the game. It doesn't just start you on an adventure. It forces you onto an adventure after living a bit of a normal life.

Breath of the Wild is probably B tier for me. Make no mistake, I think it's a fantastic game. In terms of overworld design and exploration, BotW dominates all of the other games in the series by far. I just don't think it's a fantastic _Zelda_ game. It's mostly the lack of dungeons that's the problem. The shrines are fine, and the divine beasts are passable, but they're not unique. They all look the same. Maybe not in terms of layout, but definitely in terms of aesthetics. I've always loved the how the dungeons in Zelda games all have different environments and themes. Each one is a unique experience with its own atmosphere that makes it stand out from the others. Breath of the Wild's "dungeons" don't have any of that. For the shrines, it's all the same blank walls and metal catwalks. For the divine beasts, it's the same stone platforms and open windows. Even Hyrule Castle, the closest thing this game has to a "true" dungeon, just looks like a larger version of all of the other ruins that you find scattered around the map. It's kind of sad that the only "dungeon" that I found even remotely exciting was the Yiga Hideout. Which would barely count as a mini-dungeon in any other game.

Zelda 1 is an A tier for me. I had no choice but to complete it without a guide. A guide existed called "Zelda Tips and Tactics" but I never owned it. I can 100% complete it by memory, and could since at least 1988 or 89. Link to the Past for me is S tier. I got the strategy guide in the mail the day after I beat Ganon. I missed a bunch of hearts, which is what the guide was good for.

Good save on Link to the Past Essay. Try Parallel Worlds. It's a fan game built from LTTP and it's insane hard. I just finished it on my channel. There's a best of compilation set of videos I'm working on if you want to see some torture. Hey Dude. I'm glad you found you one player spark back with BOTW. I agree on the replay. On this list probably D tier. But it's a fine game, I just think it's a little too repetitive. I did like Age of Calamity more though.

It's funny that you think BOTW has diminishing returns upon second playthroughs. I feel like it got better the second and third time I played through it. I initially played it on the WiiU and I didn't beat it on my first run. Got very frustrated with it. Finally I bought it for the Switch and told myself I needed to beat it. I had a much great appreciation the second playthrough (and first time beating it). Then I just replayed it in January (to start a MAD Zelda blitz I've been on) and I enjoyed it way more the third time. I think for me, I knew where things were, and how to avoid getting destroyed by enemies, so I could focus on the actual gameplay vs. just wandering around aimlessly. Good tier list though. Currently re-playing Four Swords and it really does not hold up. Very frustrating game, especially playing alone.

That was when I fell off the series and never got back on. I got SS when it came out in 2011 but the controls frustrated me too much. Hopefully when I get the Switch, I'll have a similar experience revisiting.

ALTTP is definitely A tier for me and 4 sword adventures is C tier but the original is D. Also twilight princess is S tier it rivals the persona games for my favourite game of all time

I can't respect any top that puts Wind Waker in the top spot lol, the same level as Ocarina of Time ? In your dreams only 😅... Ocarina Of Time, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, A Link to the Past, , Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass... all those are above Wind Waker by a landscape.... Wind Waker is overpraised only by those who never experienced a Zelda Game Before and it was their Childhoods only game to play

Also, I'm going to guess this is a hot take since everyone else alive seems to think BOTW is the best thing since sliced bread; I think it's a fine game, but a terrible Zelda game. Every other Zelda game has all kinds of gadgets and items for progression, you get every item you'll ever need for progression before you leave the area that is effectively the tutorial. Weapon and shield durability being as low as they are just sucks. Five dungeons is less than half of what most LoZ games offer, and they aren't like, twice as big or complex as other LoZ dungeons. The bosses are also very uninspired; they're basically just elementals. I have to admit I like the versatility of the stasis effect, very cool. I also quite enjoy the parrying mechanic. Lynels are very good enemies; most are better than the bosses imo.

Past Zelda games have at LEAST 3 items that go unused after there respective dungeon. especially in TP. I mean they can be used once or twice outside of the dungoen you get them in. but BOTW? You use each rune all the time. and dungeons in botw are lackluster but there are also 120 mini ones (some are big. especially the dlc ones) so they kind of fill the dungeon itch in botw. they still could've done better with the divine beasts tho. Botw is just top 3 Zelda game tho. it's not a bad one though. it's more like the original than most of the other entries as well

@@tumultuousv I don't think the thing you said about items in past LoZ games is true at all... most items in most LoZ games are used frequently beyond the dungeon you receive them in. The dungeon you find the item in HIGHLIGHTS the item, but the item doesn't become useless after said dungeon. I can't personally think of many instances where an item becomes useless after clearing the dungeon you find it in, but maybe my memory isn't as good as I'd like to think and you'd like to refresh my memory? As far as the items' versatility in BOTW, yes, but that's not my problem with them? Item-based progression has always been a facet of LoZ games, and that just isn't true for BOTW; which is why I said I thought it was a fine game but not a good Zelda game. I felt I did a pretty good job of stating my case, and you haven't said anything that's made me question my judgement.

My top three Zelda games are botw and majoras mask, with oot third. I feel that triforce heroes is the worst game in the series, but that’s mostly because I was only able to play the game single player for most of the game. It was my first ever Zelda game, and it made me not like Zelda for 3 years Also, when you do the majoras mask ranking, could you separate the n64 and 3d releases? They’re just so different from each other.
