Great video! However, Titleist needs to be pure class. From just the ball only, it should be in the top echelon of brands , especially since about 70 percent of the fields in the majors are using Titleist. Plus, there's a domination in wedges, slight edge in drivers, and decent amount of irons. And don't forget to mention TPI training! (Haven't even mentioned putters since they've been categorized under Scotty Cameron)

Mizuno is definitely Pure Class so I am glad you moved them. Taylordmade is definitely not Pure Class and should be in the Would Buy category. Taylordmade is too gimmicky and comes out with something new every six months. Ping and Titleist should be in Pure Class. They been around for a long time producing great products and have a great reputation. They come out with new products every other year when they have improvements to show. Everything else I agree with or don’t disagree too much. Keep the good videos coming.

Hey Gabe! Mostly I agree with this, although I'll have to disagree about Cleveland. The CBX wedges alone should put them into the Would Buy category. The hybrids are great, too, as are the Launcher XL and the hybrid irons. The value for money in all their clubs is just really, really good. But they don't have much flash and shelf appeal, and they're mostly aimed at mid-to-higher handicaps, with the exception of the RTX wedges, which are their only real tour presence. So they don't tend to get a lot of love. But every Cleveland club I've tried has done precisely what it "says on the tin," as our Brit friends say. The CBX wedges are astonishingly good. Now I'm probably slightly biased, because the first time I ever broke 80 it was using a set of Cleveland TA3 irons, which I just loved. Oh, and I also think Scotty Camerons are basically just over-priced and over-hyped status symbols. But I know I'm well in the minority there. But a good round-up, nonetheless!

I agree with the CBX wedges comment. They occupy a special place in the wedge market. I got fitted into CBX Zipcores earlier this year (I'm a high handicapper) and they fit my game really well and blend well with my Mizuno JPX Hot Metals. They're certainly not the most attractive golf clubs in my bag, but they don't punish me like other blade-type wedges do. Other than their looks, they're a great design IMO

Simply because the top tour players are hitting something else. Consumers are easily manipulated by celebrity endorsements. Absurd but true. Why else would an insurance company pay Shack millions to schlepp their overpriced product. Obviously Shack knows absolutely zip about insurance. Yet it works🤦‍♀️. Last time Cobra was kind of hot was when Greg Norman was ranked #1 years ago. (Even though he was the biggest choker of all time and usually came in 2nd). Cobra makes great stuff at an honest price.

Love the video gabe! Only change I would have made is setting price aside, I do think PXG irons are not only well made, but are innovative and perform well. Never would have thought that but after hitting a ton of irons this past winter, went for a fitting of gen 4 0311 P, and they overall performed better than my p790 and have reduced my handicap from a 12 to an 8 this year in large part due to the iron game. The very definition for "pure class" in terms of irons is... Miura. They are likely some of the best forgings out there, fantastic feel, quality and all. Pricey, for sure, but you certainly can't expect mostly hand made Japanese boutique irons to be as cheap as some mass produced semi-generic game improvement stuff. Cleveland irons and drivers are "meh" for sure, but wedges and putters clearly should be in the "would try" at the very least: I went to buy a Scotty and left the fitting with a Cleveland that felt slightly better, worked better and costed half as much!

Callaway needs to be just as high and really higher than TaylorMade. Driver's, as good or better - irons in game improvement the best and Apex as good as anything on upper end - Jaws wedges only surpassed by Vokeys and Odessey putters as good as anything!

I’m right there with you until the Jaws and Odyssey lines. I had an insert on a putter that just literally fell off. It was only held together by glue. Three other people I knew that had them had the same experience. I know they’ve since fixed it, but that’s the last Odyssey putter I will ever game knowing that their quality control can be so poor.
@rollandhawkins8311
@rollandhawkins8311 2 жыл бұрын
@@LetsPlayThru all inserts are glued in some fashion they should use a high quality epoxy but it is still unfair to hold an entire high quality brand down because of one manufacturing mistake. Putters are a very individualized taste anyway. The best I have had so far is a Snake Eyes long putter I customized and made an armlock. I am currently putting together a Boccieri head, a Cleveland shaft and a Super Stroke grip. The only thing TaylorMade can possibly compete with Callaway on is their drivers and while they are admittably long they are very difficult to keep in the fairway.

Good video. I’ve played golf for 50 plus years since my Navy days. Usually I buy a set of irons and driver, woods every 2-3 years. Started with Haig Ultras woods & irons custom built in the Navy. Good but I needed more. Fast forward: played Titleist, king Cobras, Ping for many years. In the end my last 300 yard drive was with the Titleist 983k driver about 20 years ago. Played ping drivers for about 15 years. Then I bought the Titleist TSi driver - new ball game. Hitting it further and good accuracy and more. accurate. Looking at T100 irons next and I’m going to buy because of the big punch, turf interaction (best I have ever felt in 50 years) and accuracy. The Awt shafts. My vote is with Titleist as elite, top of the pyramid. I can still shoot in the high 70’s.

Good call on the Mizuno’s. Played since the 70’s and gamed Wilson staff blades in the 90’s, than went to a custom set. 25 years later hit multiple irons. Went with the 919’s over ping. Close call, but I liked the feel from every good and bad shot on the Mizuno’s. Ping was outstanding, but so forgiving I couldn’t tell a bad from good shot. Also use the M-Craft putter and the st-200 woods. Woods are decent, looking to go to the ping woods next. Pretty hard to typify any of these by generalizing as many of them have some standout products in some club type while maybe not so much in others. Specialty manufacturers like Cameron or Bettinardi might be the exception as they have very limited offerings. I am also considering the Srixon as well. Finally I still hesitate with Ben Hogan and I see them as 'would try' like you. Good review.

I’ve got a bag with 7 different brands! Ping G425 driver and FW, Callaway FW, TM and Mizuno hybrids, Titleist irons, Cleveland wedges and finally a PXG putter. My favorite brand of them all is Ping. They don’t advertise like TM and Callaway. They don’t bring out new equipment every year and they’re not as innovative perhaps. They’re just solid and in my eyes they belong in the pure class category. TM bugs me and they’re my least favorite brand.

Sub 70 is a great budget Direct to Consumer brand. Compare their 699 irons to P790s-- the performance is comparable, the price kicks butt. (FWIW, I won a set of fitted Taylormade M2 2017 irons in a giveaway when they came out-- they were worth the price I paid for them).

Ve played Ben Hogan CFT irons years ago and the TaylorMade burner irons. Both were decent but I got a set of Mizuno JPX 800 Pro Forged irons awhile back. Recently put new shafts in them Dynamic Gold S300 105’s (Previously had the S300’s 120’s). Great irons and love their products. Only issue theses days are the strong lofts on newer versions. Might consider in the future. I play a 2018 Calloway Rogue driver and it is good. Recently purchased a PXG 0311 Proto strong 3 wood and love it too. Thanks for the opinions.

Glad you saw the light and put Mizuno where it should be in the end. I play the MP18’s and a Mizuno putter that you definitely need to try. Forged and milled. Pure class. I’m surprised Titleist wasn’t in pure class but I guess they lagged a bit in the drivers for a while (opening the door for TM and Callaway) but have definitely caught up with the TSI line.

@@LetsPlayThru You’ve just opened up a can of worms Gabe…I was fitted for T200s at Club Champion with LA Golf shafts…I hate them…figured out on my own it’s the shafts…the LA Golf shafts I have are 85R (85g) and I can’t feel the club, my tempo, can’t make consistent contact. Did some testing on my own going to Golf Galaxy and having them put together a T200 with various shafts…found out the perfect shaft for me is a Project X LZ 6.0 weighing in at 120g!!! Then, since I was hitting so well with the Project X shafts, I decided to swap out my 9, PW, and GW for T100S irons…they arrived last week and they are unreal…I was actually giggling out loud on the range the other day after a few days of hitting them…just a joy to hit…They remind me of my Mizuno MP 69/59 blended set I had, but they are more forgiving and go farther…win win….So, now I’ve ordered the rest of the set, 5-8 iron T100S to go with them…and will be selling the T200s with the LA Golf Tour AXS Red 85R shafts…the shafts alone were $135 each plus $35 to pure each one…they are great shafts, but just too light for me…

Just a thought but selecting Scotty putters and Titleist is like picking a category within a brand. No mention of Volkey yet you singled out certain drivers but not the irons. Ranking the family and not the sub category is always a risk. Maybe rank a companies best category offering?

Pretty solid but I'd switch TM with Titleist. I don't think I've ever tried a Titleist anything that I couldn't hit at least semi decently, except for Pro V1's HA! TM, while their upper tier stuff is great, I think their "lower" stuff really brings the brand down. Personally I think if they want to compete with budget brands they should just have a separate entity. And I say that while gaming a lower tier TM putter and a R15 Rescue hybrid (that I loath and can't wait to switch with a Cobra).

Best case I’d swap titleist with Taylor made. Nothing touches mizuno irons however. To me Taylormade minus some obvious good options are gimmicky pumping out what feels like 50 new clubs a year trying to make a quick buck.

Cleveland makes the best cavity back wedges on the market with the cbx line. Never had wedges that easy to hit regardless of the lie. The standard wedges/Frontline putters are really good so definitely don't agree on that ranking but the rest look pretty good. Remember when Taylormade got bashed regularly for releasing so much product but now Callaway releases double what everyone else does but it's not mentioned.

Part of the draw to sub70 is this: I bought a driver, 2 woods, and a fully milled putter for under $900 with shipping and taxes. My woods and driver have eveflow CB riptide shafts and lampkin cross line grips. My putter has a Garsen grip. The woods/driver have fully carbon heads, are all adjustable, and all have interchangeable weights. All this AND all the heads are made 100% in the USA and sound/feel as good as the big 5. No the designs aren’t earth shattering but they’re proven and work for amateurs for a fraction of the cost. I bought all this for $200 more than a stealth driver or Scotty Cameron putter 😵‍💫😵‍💫

Out of all these club brands, the only “Pure Class” is Miura. Nothing feels like a Miura! Scotty Cameron’s, are good but a Mizuno putter feels similar as well as with Taylormade putters. But in the end no iron feels better than Miura (coming from a 4 handicap) and Mizuno isn’t as good as people think compared to Miura or Epon

I would've bumped Titleist up to Pure Class too. Their clubs are pretty good but that's not why they belong there. They've dominated the golf ball industry and the rest of the market are just fighting for their own small shares of the pie. p.s. But even if we were just limiting ourselves to golf clubs, Titleist still has history with their wedges, with the Vokeys being one of the most highly regarded and popular ones around, and not because they're cheap.

You should try Yonex. I'm playing a set of 20 year old (truly forged) irons by them by choice because the feeilngl is incredible. Also, on this list they're the only manufacturer that makes they're own shaft. Yonex makes the whole club from the grip to the club head. They're not known here in the US because they've not pushed marketing outside of Japan.

Only disagreement is with Sub70. They may not have the pizazz you look for but, their forged and player distance irons are super and fit in that niche of your "'most bang for your buck". The rest of their lineup is quality also. Ask Lester Barnes who was just fitted at one of their fitting centers in England. (Video on DHG channel here on KZbin).

I don't have the knowledge to definitively comment but belong to a club where I've been able to try different brands and clubs from various eras. Wilson is a good value for me and I bought a set of D9 irons slightly used demos. Tour Edge was my first set of second hand irons and consistently good quality. I have a set of their wedges too. My neighbor got a great deal on new PXG irons and loves them, with free custom fitting. I wouldn't trade my Taylormade driver, it is awsome and perfect for me and recommended by a fitter. Cleveland and Calloway are on my favorite list of second hand clubs for beginners and recent Cobra clubs. Great video, I will keep my eyes open wrt the many great recommendations you have made, thank you!
