I had an idea recently that someone like Mike Flanagan or Robert Eggers should do "the Blair witch" backstory of how the witch came to be and her powers fully explored and how she came to be.
@ravenproductions5609
@ravenproductions5609 3 жыл бұрын
@@seancoetzee5399 interesting idea. I am not sure if I would honestly want to see that or not cuz I think it’s better if we aren’t shown the origin of the Blair witch and it is more ambiguous but who knows, could be good. Still, I prefer more subtle, Ambiguous storytelling with the Blair witch universe. The less we know about what really happened/is happening the better in my opinion, but still a very interesting idea.

What people don’t really get about it is that Bly manor is more of a gothic horror, and gothic horror stories are usually less about the fear of danger than the fear of sadness. Hill house was more like standard horror, while Bly was gothic horror. Another example of a great gothic horror story is Crimson Peak, which like Bly Manor, was less a scary story than it was a dark romance and tragedy
@snigdhaghosh5865

the horror backstory was the strength of Bly manor .. rest of the love and family angel didn't add to the necessary emotion. I was surprised that I rooted for the ghost more than the love story angle.

I'm not sure how anyone got a sequel to the Shining to work, but he legitimately did it. I was delighted with how it ended. I saw this at the theater and there was an amazing snowstorm when we left, which everyone loved because we all did our best frozen Jack Nicholson impersonation.

I really liked Doctor Sleep - so much that I felt it deserved another hour of runtime (or should have been two movies or a miniseries) so the third act in the Overlook didn't feel so rushed. I felt that led to my one disappointment in the film: it feels like they ran out of time and that led to that POV shot of all the Overlook ghosts reaching at the camera like it's the Thriller video. I know Flanagan is a huge Shining/Kubrick fanboy but that goofy shot _really_ didn't feel like it should have been in the movie and might have been a shortcut for a longer sequence of Danny's eventual outcome.

The fact he doesn't believe in ghosts, but makes them scary as HELL!!! AH-MAZING! Emma what an amazing opportunity you got to interview one of your favorite directors! Huge congrats. Also, the way he symbolizes ghosts as the hauntings of our experiences in life rather than being real. Flawless. The use of how we are haunted and we manifest our demons and ghost. Gerald's Game literally is the most intense therapy session of a movie, yet so beautifully created to show a woman's journey through her trauma! Soooo awesome. Keep up with the content dear friend

Mike's Absentia was really inspirational, as when I found out he shot it with the same model camera I had, I realized there was really no excuse not to make a film of my own. If he's reading these comments, thanks for the push. I find it interesting that he also doesn't believe in ghosts, as I don't either, but have a particular affinity for haunted house stories. I find it hard to choose between Doctor Sleep and Gerald's Game, but one of those has to be my favorite. Also, I've never noticed the mirror in Hush...surely it's in that house somewhere.

Love Mike Flanigan! Absentia is actually my favorite film of his--it has a quality to it more akin to an old short story from the horror pulps than a modern movie and so it feels super-eerie.

I can't believe I was lucky to see "Before I Wake" on the big screen! and fun fact it was released as "Somnia" (his original title idea), it was my first movie I watched of him and totally loved it!! I keep it close to my heart cause it was the first time I went to the movies alone, ready for a good scare! And I ended in love with the storyline and his style, I walked out googling his name and watching his past work. He's my favorite director and it was amazing to be able to hear his experiences while shooting... thank you so much Emma for this video, it was fantastic♡

I’m personally a fan of both of your work. Mike has great dialogue and gothic atmosphere in his horror films with relatable human elements with other worldly concepts. You always introduce me to cool movies, films , and tv shows in this genre. By and by, great interview with weaving of storytelling about Mike. Once again, great collaboration, kudos to you.

Oculus has a really special spot in my heart as well as Mike's. I also do not know why that movie attracts me so much, but it does. I am so happy that it exists.

Haven't seen Absentia yet, almost done with Midnight mass (which I like a lot so far). Number one is Haunting of Hill House, that show is just everything, starting with the brilliant plotline, the atmosphere and the cast. Mike put all of his heart in that one! Doctor sleep, as for me, was much better than Shining. Oculus built the tension from zero to 100%, what a trip. In my opinion, the weak link in his filmography was Ouija 2 but I still like to rewatch that one. Mike is a genius and criminally underrated!

There were only three people (including me) in the cinema when I watched Doctor Sleep. I was the only person in the middle row and the other two were sitting separately at the right and left corner seats. It turned out to be one of the best horror watches in my life. I was howling freely and no one dared to silence my chaotic energy. Because of that whole experience, Doctor Sleep is my favorite Mike Flanagan film! ;) P. S. Those two people probably didn’t notice me screaming because of how far we were sitting from each other and also of how loud the cinema audio was. I hope I did not ruin their experience. I was just carried away by the freedom I had at that time :)
