My order could change at any moment, but "Dwellers..." is probably my favorite. Thanks for getting me in to them, Pete! And thanks for the video, Rand & Pete.

I agree wholeheartedly with “Dwellers Of The Deep” being the best album.

Love Wobbler. I got 'em all. Pete's "Winter cabin by a fire" comment was spot on! If you love Wobbler, then 2021's Caligonaut- "Magnified as Giants" is a must. Wobbler's bass player and keys play throughout, while Wobbler's lead singer sings harmonies. Anyway, my top five. 1. From Silence to Somewhere 2. Dwellers of the Deep 3. Hinterland 4. Rites at Dawn 5. Afterglow

100% agree hopefully Pete sees this in case he hasnt heard the caligonaut album already.

Great show Pete & Rand. I really enjoy Wobbler, and want to pick up their latest. I think Pete nailed this with what he said near the end, they are derivative of those 70s bands we all love, but they are just so good at it. Time to give Hinterland a spin, it's been awhile.

This ranking is very coincidental for me. I bought their most recent album last year based on fantastic reviews and a quick Spotify listen but only listened to it a couple times before a month or so ago. For the last month it's been in heavy rotation and I'm loving it, so about 2 weeks ago I checked out their back catalog. Found that was awesome also, so pre-ordered the re-releases of the first 3 albums! From Silence to Somewhere had been sitting in my Laser's Edge cart since then also and I just pulled the trigger on that one the same day you posted this ranking. Great stuff!

Ever since SOT's review of Dwellers of the Deep I have been a big fan of Wobbler. The whole catalog is superb, one of my favorite newer bands.

Hi Pete amazing show as always. Another viewer already mentioned it, but if you love wobbler you'll love the new band Caligonaut. Their debut album "Magnified as Giants" features 3 members of wobbler in the band and frankly its an incredible album. So far I would say its my favourite album of 2021. Just wanted to emphasize its greatness, symphonic prog at its best.

Hi Pete. Thank you and Rand for reviewing the Wobbler albums. How did I miss this band? I'm a 64 yrs old rock and metal fan whose fave bands range from Purple, Sabbath, Zeppelin Floyd, Cream, Yes , Genesis, Crimson, Tull, Gentle Giant, PFM..up to Metallica DT, Opeth , Enslaved, Swallow The Sun .etc. I am really looking forward to hearing this band. I really enjoy listening to your channel. Peace dude. Take care, stay safe. From Liverpool UK 👍✌️🤘☮️

Love Wobbler a lot, the band has also done quite a lot for me, they let me interview them for a college project which was awesome! From Silence to Somewhere changed my life, so that one comes out on top, but I really don't think Wobbler has a bad song to their name. 1: From Silence to Somewhere 2: Rites at Dawn 3: Dwellers of the Deep 4: Afterglow 5: Hinterland

First, great to see Rand back on SoT and co-captaining this episode. In a rare move, this show convinced me [after a little listening by streaming] to order all 5 albums. Was also moved by the fact that Karisma is reissuing the first three albums and they can be pre-ordered if anyone else is interest. Been listening to their latest album since Pete picked it in his best of year review last year and really looking forward to receiving all of these for more detailed listening. Thanks, Rand and Pete, for ranking these albums.

In Orbit was my introduction to Wobbler back in 2011, I was so excited to hear another new Scandinavian prog band rising through the ranks after loving bands like Ritual, Kaipa, Beardfish, Gazpacho, Meshuggah, Opeth, for years. SO happy for their recent success and their continued debuts. They have become one of my all time favorites up there with all of those greats I mentioned.

Yesterday, I had received “Hinterland,” “Afterglow,” “Rites At Dawn” and yet another copy of “Dwellers Of The Deep” in my mailbox. I had also received my third “Space Whales” t- shirt. Thank you for recommending them Pete and Rand.

For anyone only just watching this in the UK, re-issues of the first three are available on both progrock and The Evil Zon. I've had Dwellers for some time and only just started listening, absolutely loving it and picked up their fourth through TEZ recently, then the first three reissues on TEZ (sorry progrock) today. As the guys say, these days you have to follow the GIWIA principle - get it while it's available, or GIWIAAARP - get it while it's available and a reasonable price. I never did get around to acquiring the Eloy debut, last I saw it, it was going for £100+ used.

Great band, like you said, no bad albums and any could be number one. I'd just put them in release order, last one number one. I had Hinterland when it was released and it just reminded me of the first King Crimson. Wasn't so keen when the vocals went all Yesy but soon got used to that. The music is very special. Originally created by the keyboard player, that's why the keys dominated that first album. Great band.

My introduction to Wobbler was From Silence To Somewhere and that album is fantastic (especially side two, Fermented Hours and Foxtrot are probably my favourite Wobbler songs to this day). Dwellers of the Deep is as equally strong. Recently I listened to Rites at Dawn - and it's also excellent. So to rank these three for me it's already impossible. And there's two I haven't listened yet. Oh gosh...

So, how would I rank their studio albums? 05. Hinterland (****) 04. Rites At Dawn (*****) 03. Afterglow (**^^^) 02. From Silence To Somewhere (*****) 01. Dwellers Of The Deep (*****)
@matma843 жыл бұрын
Great band! My favourite is "Rites at Dawn" but you can't go wrong with any of these.
@wolf19773 жыл бұрын
For me it's: #1 = Rites At Dawn #2 = Hinterland #2a = From Silence To Somewhere (tied with Hinterland) #3 = Afterglow That's all I have by them. I think I'm missing Wobbler I-III & Dwellers Of The Deep (only 4 tracks on Dwellers, I just listened to some of it, maybe for the 2nd time, sounds pretty good actually). So right now I'd maybe slot Dwellers in at #2, I'll definitely be downloading at least 3 of the 4 tracks on that one. I'm still on the fence about "Merry Macabre", I might skip that one, it's got some of the same vocal quirkiness as some of the Gentle Giant tunes that I don't love. Actually overall my rankings are very close to the boys, I do like Rites more as my #1 instead of Dwellers (which I'm just downloading now). The only thing is I'm not sure about Rites Of Spring, the album I have is called Rites At Dawn (2011) - same record? Anyway everything is posted to Bandcamp if you wanna check them out. I agree with Rand & Pete about Afterglow as their "worst" (but still good) but don't like Spiral Architect much. So yeah there's a lot in their music to remind you of Yes, and many of the vocals of GG, those two are obvious (I don't hear King Crimson as much). 6 albums in 22 years is a pretty sparse output, that's the main thing that keeps me from liking this band even more. They actually took 8 years between the 2nd & 3rd releases! Overall I'd give them maybe a solid 4 out of 5 rating, well worth checking out...BTW nice mention of Magic Pie, I like that band even more & that'd be one of my choices for best newer prog band, highly recommended!

Hi Guys. I recently ordered the Dwellers cd and noticed that the first track, By the Banks, starts very abruptly. Wondering if this is intentional or if it’s a manufacturing defect? @Rand Kelly or @Pete Pardo? Anyone else?

Love this band to death, and might never know them without SOT! I first heard mention of them on Pete's 2017 end of year list, which included From Silence to Somewhere. I immediately bought all five albums (first three digital download, last two on cd). I'm surprised their 2003 demo was not mentioned, Leprechaun Behind the Door. It's a very good sounding demo available on bandcamp. I ripped Afterglow to my computer, and then added Leprechaun to the end, then burned that on cd. It adds 13 minutes onto the album, which was Pete's only criticism. Also not mentioned is the fact that they only use instruments available pre-1975! If you read the liner notes carefully, you'll notice Prestmo is attributed to playing "children's toy", which is heard in the middle of Silence to Somewhere. It sounds like a See 'n' Say type of toy, and I'm convinced that toy is vintage to the early 1970's! Thank you Pete for introducing this band to me! I just love them! Ranked: 5. Hinterland 4. Afterglow 3. Rites at Dawn 2. Dwellers of the Deep 1. From Silence to Somewhere

Great "roots" band, I only got into them once they stopped playing the crap out of their hits on radio (and/or I stopped listening). I have a lot of their albums, Lions, Wiser For The Time & The Lost Crowes are really good, and Shake Your Money Maker (30Th Anniversary Deluxe) is tremendous. Also The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion & Three Snakes And One Charm. For live there's Transmission Impossible & The VH1 Unplugged episode is interesting... The Chris Robinson/Brotherhood stuff is also just about as good, as is Rich Robinson's solo stuff. The Cry of Love band is similar in sound & vibe, so is Devon Allman's Royal Southern Brotherhood. I'd recommend all of those if you like the Crowes. Rich Robinson's band The Magpie Salute as well, good stuff. Finally Marc Ford (former lead guitarist for the Crowes) has a good solo album out called Weary and Wired, again solidly in the Crowes' musical lane. I made myself a Crowes/Robinson/related playlist that's got about 200 songs
