My working hypothesis is that Balance Type works depending whether it's used as an assist or as a counter. If I'm not mistaken, Guile uses his Flash Kick as a crossover counter but Sonic Boom as his crossover assist.

Yeah, that’s exactly how it works. Mega man balance is the anti-air assist while his counter the projectile. It also affects the hyper move for team hyper for some characters.

I just noticed a small error: Servbot’s balance assist should be his horizontal fire breath move, but it’s swapped with his projectile assist. Not that it really matters that much anyways, because it’s Servbot, but still worth pointing out

Balance type changes the hyper combo for the team hyper combo. Hayato's assist special is the same between Expansion and Balance, but his Super for Expansion is the Big Flurry, while for Balance it's the big Blade Beam which is normally his Anti-Air Assist super. This is why Balance is the better choice for Hayato bc his Sword Swing assist is better than his Anti-Air, but Balance let's you have both Sword Swing (better screen coverage) AND Blade Beam (Works better with other supers in THC)

@@Lv.1Bidoof i am quite the opposite! i played all of the older games as a kid, aside from COTA and MSH, which i picked up recently. but i never actually got the chance to play marvel 3, which makes me so sad cuz i loved watching it. the aesthetic of the game looks so cool, and the music is fantastic, and it just looks fun to play. i wanna play it so badly 😭

Thanks for clipping it and presenting it as a short! Now I'm gonna be greedy, though, and ask "What if the ratio system was by character/assist instead of just by character?" Probably a bad idea, but I'm curious. The idea behind ratio, if I understand it correctly, is to promote playing lesser used characters. So, if a normally high tier character is appropriately *nerfed* by choosing a suboptimal assist, that could lower their point value and get them more play, defeating the reason for the whole thing. 😂 Again, though, I am curious how for how many characters it would even make a difference. 😅

Legitimate question but what's the difference between Projectile and Balance for some of the characters? For iceman, it looks like the same move.

Hopefully someone with more expertise can comment on other unique properties, but it looks like projectile has a higher combo count and does more damage.

Great question. So a well know difference is 'BALANCE' changes the assist, the THC super and/or the crossover assist. So lets say you play Charlie and you pick 'PROJECTILE'. When you call an assist he will do a sonic boom, when you THC he will do sonic break and when you crossover assist I think he does sonic boom. But if you pic 'ANTI-AIR'. When you call an assist he will do a flash kick, when you THC he will do flash kick super and when you crossover assist he will do flash kick I think. But if you pic 'BALANCE'. When you call an assist he will do a sonic boom, when you THC he will do flash kick super and when you crossover asssist he will do sonic boom I think. Hence the term balance... kind of the best or worse of both worlds, they are hit or miss nothing in between since if you pick them you are generally looking for something in specific. Now that said they CAN provide 1 or 2 other benefit based on how THC's function in this game which I can explain in depth if you would like but the gist of it is some supers are only available through THC's and two seemingly identical supers can have different properties based on whether performed as "A1+A2" or by command i.e. d, df, f +PP. I.E. Charlies Sonic break Hope that helped

0:32 that launcher assist, I didn't know it was considered as such and I thought it was just anti air, does it mean you can combo/bnb off it since there's no recover like when the player itself does the launcher?
