My response to your points about Yuma (most of which I disagree with) between 1:07 and 2:00 : - *"Irritating"* Yes I agree, though Yuma being irritating is meant to be the point. ZEXAL is a very down to earth story about a brat that learns how to be a better person as he overcomes his flaws and forges himself to be the best person he can be. Your average 13 year-old is pretty irritating for example. His flaws make his growth all the more worth-while by the end of the series. So it's a shame you didn't take any of that into account. I will say that Yuma's egregious traits are accentuated by the dub because of his voice which often creates a subsconscious bias against Yuma in the minds of some people, preventing them from seeing any of the nuances in Yuma's character. Pretty sure this doesn't apply to most dub watchers though. It's not a normal reaction and other than his voice his character is more or less the same. - *"almost unrelatable character"* Now this one I COMPLETELY disagree with. Yuma is VERY easy to relate to. Not being the best at something is enough to relate to Yuma because the fact that he's an underdog is a core part of his characterisation. On top of that, have you ever been made fun of for not being the best at something? Because Yuma was laughed at and ridiculed constantly as he wasn't good at Yu-Gi-Oh! And despite all that, he still never stopped trying. So have you ever strived to achieve something despite setbacks? I would hope so, and that's another relatable thing about him. Yuma's overzealous and "never give up" attitude is a core part of his personality. Have you ever been cringy/stubborn when you were younger/more immature? It's a common characteristic for 13 year-olds. Yes Yuma was stubborn but there is a deeper meaning behind it. Have you ever lied/broke a promise? Have you ever felt self-doubt and fear? Have you ever feared losing? - *"He's a bad duelist"* I hate seeing this take... please explain to me how having losses is supposed to make someone a poorly written character? Because you didn't explain that at all in the video and just used Yuma's W/L ratio to dunk on him. Surprise surprise, winning a lot =/= well written character. It's a very childish mindset. Not to mention that a lot of Yuma's losses are gimmick loses. His only legit losses are to Shark, Kaito and Roku which is COMPLETELY FINE. He goes through a lot of growth as a result of these losses and this doesn't make him a bad written character AT ALL. Quite the opposite actually 😭😭 - *"Insufferable... egotistical... cocky" (this section of my argument is very long)* So the things you've mentioned here are applicable to early Yuma but not post-development Yuma at all. I'll help you out and compare 2 moments in the show where in one Yuma displays the qualities you have listed and in the other displays the exact opposite Across episodes 11/12: Yuma lied. He promised to not use his Number in the duel against Shark because he told himself he was dueling Shark to solely help him. But he broke this promise. Why? It was Yuma's insecurity of wanting to prove himself. His pride conflicted with his desire to help Shark which lead him to lying - using his Number against Shark to try win. You could say he was cocky. The show symbolically condemns this behaviour by having Yuma lose this duel against Shark. Yuma only truly makes up with Shark once he confronts this flaw of his, instead of running away from it which he was doing before. Especially impactful when you consider that Yuma was on a losing streak and was a terrible duelist at the start of the show. So when he started winning duels back to back, it's understandable he's shown to have a fragile pride after a loss. To someone he'd already beaten too. What started out as a childish bet between his friends to genuinely wanting to help someone at their lowest then turned into an incredibly compelling and nuanced character work of Yuma using all that to mask the pride he built up recently. Quoting Yuma from the Japanese version of the show: "DON'T LAUGH! What's so funny? What's so funny about having a fear of losing? I'm afraid of losing as well. Every single moment when I thought of losing, I was engulfed by fear. That's why I used my Number! I said I was doing this to help Shark, but I was just afraid of losing! I was lying! But because of this, I decided to never lie in a duel ever again!" I believe this moment is supposed to mirror the final turn of Yuma vs Nasch. Yuma's goal here is also to save Shark. Right before Yuma deals (what he thinks) will be the killing blow (with the goal of victory in mind), he rejects the power of ZEXAL and negates his own attack. Yuma says that with 50 LP left, he will take on all of Shark's attacks and find a way to save both of them. One that doesn't involve defeating Shark, no matter how long it takes. This moment is what makes Yuma's character development so beautiful, and all his flaws worthwhile. Before, he prioritised winning over saving his friend. His pride (understandably) got to his head. Now he solely chooses to save Shark and not defeat him; not give in to the hatred and revenge that has caused all this loss during this onslaught. This takes immense resolve considering he'll be on the losing side, with 50 LP, and have the entire fate of the universe on his shoulders. It really shows his strength of character and gaining of independence The show symbolically approves of this behaviour by having Yuma's victory be SOLELY due to this ideology. Not card game strategy, but only because of Yuma's philosophy, which was the deciding factor in this duel. It's to this day one of the most unique ways a character has ever won a duel in Yu-Gi-Oh! So the qualities which you have listed do not make for a poorly written character at all. For some reason you're turning a blind eye towards any and all context and just framing it as bad writing. Since when did these qualities count as criteria for a poorly written character? Sure, they can be reasons as to why you don't like a character, but your videos are framed in a way that suggests you are judging writing quality rather than just subjective taste. - *"untalented child"* If Yuma was truly untalented, he wouldn't have gone from being a rock-bottom duelist to on par with pros in his verse in just a few weeks lol. Yuma's problem was that although he was always trying, he lacked genuine motivation because of his loneliness and depression from always being laughed at and having barely anyone to talk to. Doesn't help that his parents have been presumed dead for quite some time now. - *"not a good person"* This one is just objectively wrong. - *"isn't outstanding like Yusei, Yusaku and Jaden"* By the end of the series, Yuma can confidently stand alongside his predecessors. And again, I don't know how not being outstanding qualifies as poor writing to you. - *"doesn't have a clear goal like Yuya"* His goal is to help Astral regain his memories while simultaneously freeing the souls afflicted by the curse of the Numbers. All while trying to make the world a better place. - *"doesn't get the nostalgia pop like Yugi"* I'm sorry but WHAT? lmfaoo you had to have been trolling here, this one is just ridiculous

About Yuga The duels before Rush Duels were not Master Duels. They were completely different. They were called Goha Duels. In Go Rush, it's revealed that Rush duels eventually turned into Goha Duels. Another evidence for this is that the characters say they never saw the Fusion card before, meaning fusions did not exist in Goha Duels, showing that they were not Master Duels because fusions are a staple of them. Yuga is selfless and was willing to become OTES so that the kids in the future would have a form of entertainment in the dictatorshippic dystopia that is Goha City. He was fighting for fun, entertainment and sportsmanship, which is everything YuGiOh stands for.

Yuma is sn outstanding duelist. He just didn't have strategy in the beginning, in which both Roku and Astral pointed out. However, whenever lives were at stake and after much training Yuma almost made his record 30 straight win streak if it weren't for Kite and Barians. And Yuma never lost in Zexal Change and was considered the best Duelist by the end of the series. I won't say he is better than Yugi or Judai but by the end of the series his deck, character growth, and skill puts him above Yusei imo. Yusei was literally stagnant and stoic the whole series and only ever had power upgrades

I think the main difference between Zarc and Supreme King Jaden is that with Jaden we had multiple episodes of him being the villain and multiple duels as the villain. Ao we had more time foe him to show the change. Yuya was teased throughout the whole series and I think that worked really well, the season needed more time with him as Zarc. The battle royale duel was great yes but it was only 1 Duel, Zarc needed multiple duels and multiple episodes where time has actually passed to show how he differs from Yuya

Yuma never came across as cocky to me. I thought they did a good job with him coming across as hopeful. He was oblivious and in over his head most of the time but that's the story's main problem. And the rest of the series is him learning as he goes to solve that.

And it’s mainly because of how you don’t explain Yuma’s achievements, with Yuga it sounds like you couldn’t take a glaring criticism that he pointed out in the real life game that we need to accept and acknowledge, Yuya as a protagonist I’m just gonna say it Yuya stop preaching there is a time and a place and this is not the time for that.

I want to show you my rankings of the main protagonists and what I think about them. #7 Yuga Ohdo- Compared to the other protagonists he just seems really boring and I feel the same way about Sevens. #6 Yuma Tsukamo- I really enjoyed his underdog story in the first half of Zexal and the second half really helped show us that it's okay for Yu-Gi-Oh heroes to be scared of these dangerous opponents. #5 Yuya Sakaki- The duel style he used was really entertaining to watch and the emotional journey he went through made him feel really sympathetic #4 Yusei Fudo- This guy was one of the coolest protagonists I have ever seen an epic brave warrior that is always ready to lead the charge. # 3 Jaden Yuki- The Hero deck he used was probably one of the most amazing in the franchise and his personality just made him even cooler # 2 Yusaku Fujiki- The mystery surrounding his past and the epic battle he was fighting in a virtual world was just incredible # 1 Yugi/ Atem- The one that stated it all and a protagonist that everyone wants to watch from beginning to end his adventure will always be an important part of Yu-Gi-Oh history

I would like to say that Yuga(from Sevens) is a self proclaimed revolutionist. However I view what he did a bit differently. He practically forced his way of dueling on to everyone. Which doesn’t quite sit well with me. Sure if it was an option in the series for the characters to switch over to the new way that would have been nice and interesting to see.

"Forced" is a strong word. He more introduced the programming for it to every duel disk, then went around trying to convince people of the format. It's not like the code for Goha Duels vanished, and he even specifically made a code so that people could play whatever type of duel they wanted, not just however _he_ wanted. He's not trying to force anyone to do anything, just convince them to see his perspective.

Even though its cheating, it has to be a three-way tie between Yugi, Jaiden and Yusei for me. All 3 are iconic and did something better than the other 2. Yugi is the heart of the franchise. The love for the game itself and the desire to protect & support the people you care for. Its simple, but its something every protagonist after him carries at their core. I feel like we take for granted how inspiring someone so earnest can be. Jaiden is probably the most traumatised and has the biggest rollercoaster of an arc. He's a walking representation of how everyone, even the kindest of us, have a destructive side that hungers for strength and our own selfish goals. But that this can be a force for good if honed by hope and the belief in both your own and others' potential. Yusei is the most outwardly stoic. The complete opposite to Jaiden in how he doesn't really change, but unlike Yugi who passively inspires, Yusei *burns* the path he wants into the world. He doesn't just want to protect those he cares about, he wants to change the world into a place where everyone is inspired and free to do the same.

Yuma is actually my favorite lol😅 I think he has the best development of the franchise and while I get why most people don't like him, I think most are missing the point of him not being a good duelist in the beginning being because it's the start of his hero's journey. Also, never watched the English dub for any yu gi oh, straight Japanese with subs for me. Yeah, for what I heard his dub va made him sound extra annoying. Yugi (not counting Atem) is actually my least favorite.

The lowest result he's had was we drew twice against Revolver His only losses were when he was kidnapped and tortured as a kid while being forced to VR duel If you wanna be technical, Playmaker's only loss is in Duel Links cuz you start with Soulburner and you can only proceed through the world after beating Playmaker. And Vrains World is canon cuz its events take place AFTER the anime cuz Playmaker manage to get Ai back but it's not the same Ai we knew from the anime

I would have agreed Judai is the best however season 4 judai is a big disappointment he's boring and everything that was interesting about him became boring he became serious and that was it and he didn't even explore his relationship with Yubel and his tag team with Johan was awful Johan was saving him 24/7 and it wasnt even a tag duel and finally he just wants to win in dueling and to me Yugi is better because he always duels for the correct reasons and he's not perfect himself the orichalcous arc while not canon explored Yugis dark side and it's consequences Yugi develops and matures and his very final duel with Atem is the greatest to his character growth Judai has a final duel with Yugi but it's not the same so Judai would personally rank for me either 2nd or 3rd but Yugi will always be the best

The Arc V Anime is just like the Card Game you have to understand the other Summoning mechanics in order to play Pendulum. So better watch everything that comes before in order to have a better experience. 1 Jaden is my Nr:1 too for the same reasons as in the Video 2 Yuya is very interesting because he is a Split personality and has much to offer as the series progresses 3 Yusei is more stoic but very cool even cooler as his rival 4 Yuma was very annoying at first but he became more mature as the series Progresses but i still dont know why him of all characters have a Harem. 5 Yugi is very plain a bit boring for my taste he plays never fair but judges everyone else for cheating. a real hypocrite he has the power to cheat himself throgh everything 6 Yusaku is here because i never watched the Vrains anime as far to properly rank him 7 Yuga is here because i only played the Nintendo Switch game of Rush duel. and he realy didnt stand out quite well in this game.

Before I watch my list is. YUYA: by far the worst. JUDAI: yuya but he gets better in season 4. YUMA: stupid and annoying but not insufferable. YUGA: oblivious to everything. YAMI: poor loser also cheat. YUSAKU: decent when he's not being playmaker. YUSEI: awesome no contest. I haven't watched go rush yet and I haven't read enough of structures to have an informed opinion.

@@ConnelTEW joey, unlike others, never got op anime cards and he was stuck with the average playground deck like us mere mortals... and yet he managed to put a fair fight against a GOD! he was the only one who managed to defeat one of the Orichalcos Musketeers at first try, unlike Yami and Kaiba who got a lost and a draw. Also, it's heavly implied that he defeated Yami Yugi off screen since he got his Red-Eyes back and it was stated multiple times that he wanted to earn it only trought beating Yami in a duel. In the end, he's not a terrible duellist, he just got a terrible deck.

I’m trying to watch Zeaxl now and it’s really hard because of Yuma 🫠🫠 I’m hoping the comments are right and he gets better but at this point ( I’m 7 episodes in) he’s beyond cringe and annoying AF. I’ll come back after I binge watch tomorrow

@ believe it or not, it wasn’t always the norm for teens to be OD cringey. Ash made it 25* years without being cringe, Yugi made it like 10 + years without being cringe. I have to assume you’re 15-19 and you’ve been raised in a generation where being lame and cringe is just the way to be but nah, that’s not cool kid.

@FleepacShakur Ash doesn't even go to school or have a life similar to the one irl. Yugi being shy and quiet ensured that the only friends he got were after he made a wish via the millennium puzzle.
