If you know the lore, Giant Lord IS LITERALLY the last giant. Same one. When you go back in time you dont actually kill him, you're knocking him down so he can be imprisoned, so you can kill him later, even though you killed him earlier. Wibbly-wobbly timey wimey stuff.

I disagree with the pursuer. While he may be quite easy he represents a massive difficulty spike. DS2 was my first souls game and I remember beating the las giant and thinking "huh, maybe this game isn't all it's cranked up to be." And then I reached the pursuer and I got DESTROYED. Another thing I like is how he comes back like an old friend, even if he tries to kill you

I agree. Ive been killed a lot by him in the past, but then i realized 90% of his attacks can be dodged entirely by strafing to his right, and his slow 3 hit combo's first swing can be parried. Just constantly parry that move and strafe right and it's a cakewalk

I'm playing the game for the first time and beat the Last Giant on my first try. The Pursuer has given me so much grief I think when I get back to the game I'll leave and come back later. I know he's extremely weak to parrying, but I'm not using a shield because one of Dark Souls 2's strongest defenders has assured us all the game is much better that way.

For some reason, I LOVED the Vendrick fight. I think the creepiness of walking in that dark chamber, the little piano notes playing in the background, and then seeing this giant dude who's lost his mind just wandering around is... unsettling. Honestly, this was one of my favorite bosses in the Souls series as a whole. Not the fight itself, just the whole feel of it.

Imo: Covetous Demon is easier than Prowling Magus. The Magus has a couple dudes who shoot lightning, Covetous Demon has nothing. I honestly don’t think i’ve taken a single hit from CD. I also think Last Giant is easier than Dragon Rider.

to be honest, when i did my first ng+7 CoC this dude 2 shot me (Covetous demon) but i died 0 times to blue smelter. If you underestimate him in higher ngs he can actually 2-3 hit you with his slam attack

Congregation can be pretty dangerous. If you get too careless, you'll get slaughtered in a second. Covetus demon can be killed pretty easily by someone who's never played a game before. I've seen toddlers take him out first try

In defense of Old Dragonslayer's lack of difficulty, remember that he's an early game boss wheras Ornstein and Smough were the climax of Dark Souls and meant to be a true test of skill. Old Dragonslayer does a good job of teaching inexperienced souls players the importance of properly timed rolls, in comparison to the bosses prior to him (Last Giant and Dragonrider) really only requiring simple strafing with the occasional lazy roll out of harm's way.

Well considering how hard the game's overall quality drops after Anor Londo (not counting the DLC area) I think it's a pretty fair assessment. But even if you don't consider Ornstein and Smough the climax of the game, at least consider that they're a midgame boss and you're expected to know your shit by that point. Old Dragonslayer is early game and designed with newbies in mind. He's about as hard as Pursuer, IMO. Neither is hard, but Dragonslayer gets flak for being easy while Pursuer is a fan favorite.

Almost all of these fights you say “once you’re familiar with them.” How do you get familiar with them? By dying to them? Making them actually difficult? Or by playing multiple playthroughs, at which point difficulty is irrelevant?

I think Pursuer is the toughest one for new players since he's attacks are fast and devastating and your health and stamina aren't that great. I probably died 30+ times to him alone before I timed the ballista perfectly.

About the Exetutioner's Chariot: This may sound wierd but I like the Executioner's Chariot fight. The beginning at least. I was intimidated when I saw the light and it felt kind of new, because it was not like a big empty arena with one (mostly big) guy in the middle. The way to the boss is horrendous of course. But I also was disappointed when I closed the gate and I had to fight the horse. Why the horse? It CRASHED through the gate, yet lives? Why not fight the guy on the chariot with a freakin' SCYTHE?! But the boss called "Executioner's Chariot" not "The Executioner" so I guess the horse itself is the boss. What a letdown. About the Royal Rad Vanguard: I think this whole fight would have been so much better without the boss' lifebar. Without a lifebar, you would feel a bit helpless at least. I mean... it's an endless wave of rats, and first time it was kind of scary for me, because I was stuck in the corner, my weapon was in shit condition, and there was no end in sight. But then the lifebar appeared. I knew I had to look something out of the ordinary, because killing the rats was not an option and I soon saw that punk rat. It was over in a second.

I remember when I was playing this game for the first time with my friend. This game was my intro to this kind of game. And when we ran into good old Magus I went in first and was like "Oh shit there's a boss here" "A what?" He walked in with his strength build and whacked like five of them and they died right off. We were both suddenly not worried.

Lightning rapier (and lightning in general) is so op in dark souls 2. Even after they nerfed it 😂. I advised against using lightning or the games difficulty is cut kind of in half, At least in my experience.

An idea on how to make Mages and his Congregation better: -Magus himself cannot be harmed until the lightning priests are killed, and will pepper you with hexes throughout the fight. -The priests constantly revive the Congregation while they live. -Once one priest is killed, the Congregation is powered up. -After the congregation is killed, Magus absorbs their souls and receives a huge damage boost. -Probably something else but I got nothing else

That's still quite easy to be honest, the Magus needs more melee attacks with the damage boost and he needs more health, nothing you suggested is good as long as the Magus can die in very few hits. -Dark Wrath of the Gods - A Dark-powered Force that sends the character flying, only used at close range. -Dark Orb - Sends a ball of Dark at the player that does moderate damage. -Dark Arrow - Fires a fast-moving projectile vaguely resembling the Soul Arrow sorcery; has a slightly longer range than the Dark Orb spell. That's literally his moveset. Here's my suggestions: -Have everything you suggested -Give him about 1'000-2'000 more health (His current health is 1'760 on NG) -Give him: Dark Fog, Dark Hail, Dead Again (Would work perfectly with this boss) and (Maybe) Whisper of Despair -Give him like a small sword with dark magic on it so he has a way of defending himself in close quarters -Give him something so he can boost the damage of the Congregation, like what the Channelers did in Dark Souls I feel like this would make him much better/harder.

You're an idiot. If you have enough damage you can kill the Magus before the clerics cast great heal to heal him. They don't get powered up when one dies. Sometimes they cast what looks like Sacred Oath or some other miracle buff but they can cast that any time.

The Dragon Rider can be further trivialized by sniping at it with arrows till he finally raises his shield, and then once you enter his arena you will see that you widdled him down to a depressing amount of health, allowing for a quick victory.

Most of the bosses in the main game are really pathetic and uninspired and I am concentrating on PATHETIC! Easy, with lazy-ass design and mechanics (if I can even call it mechanics). There are a handful of satisfying bosses (Smelter Demon, Lost Snnner, Velstadt, Looking Glass Knight, Persuer, Executioner's Chariot, Darklurker to some extend, Demon of Song and Aldia). And some of these are also considered horrible by a lot of people (Aldia, Demon of Song,Smelter Demon and the Chariot).

like written above Darklurker is not the biggest challenge if you are able to wield the gyrm shield and dark knight set. his sword attack is actually a dark spell attack so you can lower its damage extremly und gyrm shield does the rest. even when both of them hit you with theire melee the same time you have nothing to fear when you are prepared.

I will never forget my first encounter with the Covetous Demon. Entered the arena, took no damage, and kind of sat their in disbelief for a second. I took a clip and it took me about 50 seconds to beat, including entering the fog door and the ‘victory achieved’ text. The easiest boss in the series for me, and is memorable because of that.

I think that many of these bosses would be pretty good if they just had a second stage, and a few other buffs. Something like: 1) Prowling Magus and Congregation - as soon as the fight begins, he buffs the entire congregation with Dark, so that they are faster and deal more damage. He'll then regularly cast a shield of darkness on whichever enemy you are attacking at the time, roughly halving your damage. Once he's the only one left, he pulls an Abyss Watcher and drains power from the Congregation's bodies, fully healing himself, gaining extra health and beginning to levitate and move around quickly while casting spells. 2) Covetous Demon - he should be considered so heavy, that most of his attacks automatically cause shockwaves. So, if you are close to him for a few seconds like at 1:42, he slams his tail into the ground and the shockwave reaches you on the side as well, unless you roll away. There's also a stronger shockwave at the end of his roll, and his "leap" shockwaves half the room. His thick skin should also give him higher resistance to slashing weapons (that rapier damage on such a thick-skinned creature is painful), and once his health runs out, he bleeds out a Toxic pool and goes into his second stage, which is very slow and no longer rolls, but can still eat and has Toxic spellcasting. 3) Dragonrider - AI buff so that he doesn't fall off (it can't be THAT hard, right?), gets a backwards kick once you have hit him from behind once or twice. Goes frenzied once his health is halfway down, and either moves much faster and attacks more aggressively (large arena), or still moves slowly and deliberately, but gets a shield-bashing combo to push you off (small arena). 4) The Last Giant - first those shackles on his ankles should act as armor, so that if you attack carelessly and your hits connect with those, it's the same as if your attack got blocked, and you deal scratch damage and are left vulnerable. Then, he no longer gets the "arm attack" thing, but instead falls to his knees at that point, and you have to actually hit his body to do damage, and he crawls on his knees while swinging his arms around. 5) The Skeleton Lords should have a bit more HP, and learn how to block you (or even parry you) with their weapons. The skeleton AI should also be buffed so that they git gud at surrounding you, but that can be applied to most enemies, really. 6) Royal Rat Vanguard's rats would be a lot scarier if their AI specifically knew how to split in half and surround you at all costs, and never wander mindlessly like some rats do at 4:54 7) Demon of Song - after you exploit his opening after an arm attack once or twice, he'll immediately jump backwards after doing it (i.e. right when you roll away) and then shoot at you. Possibly gets a buffed 2nd stage as well. 8) Flexile Sentry - the inactive Sentry should try to automatically shield the side you are approaching from with its weapon after you get some hits in this manner. Once wounded a lot, they crawl, lack easily exposed areas, and parrying them becomes very important. 9) Giant Lord - that fur coat is so thick, it should count as leg armor until you deal enough damage to shred through it. He also gets a 2nd, crawling stage, where's like a giant, non-teleporting Lothric.. 10) Old Dragonslayer- is equivalent to Super Ornstein in power, has additional Dark spells, can summon a couple of Old Knights 2-3 times a battle. 11) Twin Dragonriders - see above. They get a backwards kick to prevent flanking abuse, and will also attempt to surround you once both are on the ground. 12) Medusa - already a decent boss, but probably could spellcast more and buff herself magically once she's sufficiently wounded. 13) Guardian Dragon - it has a cool area, but I REALLY dislike bosses that will willingly come down into your range of attacks for no reason. Like, why wouldn't it just cling to a wall forever? In fact, that's what I would have made it do, and it would only come down if you pelt it with spells or arrows enough to piss it off. For melee builds, there'll be a small ballista (I daresay...a scorpion?) nearby that you can bring into a boss room, which will wound it and bring it to the ground...but he'll quickly burn it, and probably not give you a chance to shoot, unless you also find a frost shield item for the ballista. It has higher defenses & better range of attacks on the ground as well. 14) Scorpioness - much stronger defenses unless hit in the human body, will instantly stab at the player with a corresponding pincer if they are close enough to touch that side's legs. (I feel like that would be reflex for her at that point). May cast a magic shield at range to deal with ranged attack abuse. 15) The Rotten - already a pretty good boss. Perhaps make those small human arms he uses for movement also lash out at the player weakly, only hitting if they stop moving and just attack? 16) The Old Iron King - honestly, this guy sucks. He needs a second stage, but I'm not sure what should it be. Perhaps his initial health is reduced, but then, you simply cut one of his arms off instead of killing him, but this also makes him weaker and cools much of the lava? The area then becomes a bit bigger, but he also attacks faster, and spews pyromancy from the severed arm? 17) Chariot - actually a really cool idea. Perhaps a few buffs for the 2nd stage? 18) The Pursuer - will start destroying the Ballistae after being hit with them once. 19 - 20) Aldia and Vendrick both have pretty good reasons for being the way they are, so don't really need changes. (Maybe a couple extra spells for Aldia?) 21) Royal Rat Authority - number of toxic rats is halved to two, but two more are summoned halfway through. It can also evade some attacks through rearing on its hind legs at the right time and striking down, and will cancel frontal attacks if you attack a hind leg to kick you with it. Thoughts?

I died to the Demon of Song once because I tried tanking him with a greatshield, didn't work out. The second time, however, with a lot more maneuverability I killed it, it's extremely easy, the worst part is the run-up to the boss for me, I despise the Amana Shrine Maidens, the lack of movement in the water and the fact that you have about 4 of them shooting homing soul arrows at you at once was stressful to me. The Flexile Sentry is very easy, just stick to his sides and roll through his attacks and bingo! You've pretty much killed it already. I agree on the Lost Sinner though, I used the blocking strategy, complete pushover.

bravo075 I personally found DS2 to be more fun, the main thing that I don't like about 1 is that O and S are not as well made as everyone seems to think, I would put it in 30-40 on my ranking list. They really don't complement each other at all, they are just 2 highly aggressive enemies, one doing more damage and the other being able to attack you around a quarter of a second earlier. Just because they look opposite to each other doesn't mean they act that way. They can corner you and stun lock you to death. And by the way, I have barely ever died to them, so I am not salty because I keep dying, I am just annoyed that it is a completely ok boss, not a masterpiece of game design.

From there, hugging the right wall, you only need to break your way through about five or six statues, and I was able to get to the rotten without being poisoned quite easily. Getting through black gulch overall was a pain though.

I'm going to admit. The Royal Rat Vanguard I died to 30 times because this was my first Dark Souls Game. :P
